  • Opened 1 of 8 bottles from my cave. Nicely filled up to the neck. Cork smelled moldy and broke. Decanted but poured and tasted immediately. Surprisingly it was in an excellent shape! Taste of gingerbread, caramel. Really amazing this sixty year old bottle was still very nice. After one hour it started to oxidate.

  • A really interesting bottle of wine that failed to live up to any great expectations. I have rarely seen an old bottle with such a pristine label, so clean and new my drinking partner and I wondered if it had somehow been faked, but really who would bother. The cork was bloodied and difficult to extract. The wine was deepish red without massive signs of age. It was a little dead on the nose (as I was at this time of night I have to admit) but it tasted a bit stewed on the palate. It had nice mouthfeel, reasonably well integrated, but none of the old barnyardy flavours you would expect and fell away on the finish. As I said, interesting, but not something I could really recommend.
