A belated birthday dinner at Garibaldi with my wife, Wayne, AL and SS. It almost seemed as though my friends could read my mind, bringing another 1998 to match the Grivot Richebourg. This was yellow gold in colour, bordering on caramel. It seemed fairly advanced for the vintage. The nose was spectacular. There was honey, caramel, toffee and butter. It was captivating. On the palate, there was good structure, the tannins had all but dissolved making this a wine in its optimum drinking window. The flavours danced on the tongue, you could taste the butter, the sweetness of honey and caramel but nothing too heavy and weighty. The balance was perfect, and this lasted well in the decanter. A wine in its optimum drinking window. A wine from a brilliant maker.
