White Burgundy Tasting (Heirloom cafe): Highly aromatic nose, flinty, gunsmoke, slight tropical fruit; palate is rich, full bodied, still medium-plus to high acid, exceptionally fresh; medium-plus to long finish. Lovely, and my favorite out of the lineup of white burgundies. 93

Some reduction for first 20 minutes or so. White fruit (peach, lemon), nice creaminess of fruit, slight floral. Good acidity. Lingering finish. Creaminess on the finish. Really enjoyable. Better on 2nd night.

HDH auction tasting at Tru (Chicago, IL): Not advanced at all. Clearly a product of reductive winemaking -- a big whiff of sulphur on the nose. This is in a lovely state at the moment, showing exactly what you'd expect. A slightly oily texture on the palate, but this is very dense and powerful with some moderate white peach notes. Intense acidity. Very good.

A big surprise: initially big and oxidative; fully developed, lacking freshness or any refinement. After an hour, freshness and chalkiness emerged, especially right after pouring. Overwhelming oxidative character still present yet having receded somewhat. Still broad but with a clear stony substructure. Honey, citrus, caramel, brioche, chalk . . .powerful and weighty without excess fat.

La Paulee 2.0 S.F.: Along side 04/08 Leflaive Pucelles....this 01 showing a little more age than the Leflaives.....rich honeyed, pit fruit, match strike...but still pretty good citrus and crushed mineral.
