Blinded. Coming after the 2000 Drouhin Moose, we had thought it low odds that the follow-on wine be on par with how the Drouhin showed. But whoa, this wowed us almost immediately with its power/weight & elegance. Violets/roses, spice/sandalwood - the fragrance burst forth from the glass needing no coaxing. It was the palate that was equally if not more, engaging - texturally elegant, with satin wrapped around a powerful core of red/dark fruits that managed its balance so well that it didn't come across as overly sturdy/heavy, culminating in a long finish. My guess was a Vosne GC, but was pleasantly surprised when it was unveiled to be yet another Musigny! We found out later that this was double-decanted since the morning & only funneled back to its bottle before dinner-serving. So delicious. Almost an atypical Vogue!

The one with Jean Luc Pepin (Jade Palace) - Comtes Georges de Vogue: Some similarities to the Amoureuses in that same lifted but less ethereal bouquet that opened with lavender, violets and cool cherry cola. This transitioned into layers upon layers of sweet raspberries, dried roses, unriped plums and sandalwood with some chalk and baking spice. Palate showed fantastic concentration and finesse. Finish was textured, tender and expressive with velvety tannins. Admittedly this needs time but nothing marred this lovely showing today!Comtes Georges de Vogue

Medium body. Decanted over 2 hours and this evolved. Initially the nose was closed, then evolved into a slightly reserved but pungent dark berry mix. On the palate it’s a bit thin and disjointed, with soft and gentle tannin but it’s not in balance at present. I’d suggest waiting until 2024/25 to open.

Like many 2017’s, this is drinking amazingly well. Perfumed, intoxicating and utterly delicious.

Comte Vogue dinner at Jade Palace, cherries & earth, super powerful palate but lacy & finesse, so young, very good
