  • w/Kwin and Nina. Lovely dark fruit core (blend is half merlot, half cab). medium plus body, slightly elevated alcohol, tart elevated acid. medium tannins. It's reminding me of the 2012 Spottswoode in fruit character, though maybe less powerful and less aggressively structured. If pressed, I might call out hints of oak, hints of stewed bell pepper pyrazines, hints of forest floor - but really the star is the complex, well-blended core of fruit, and the rest is merely the setting. Quite lovely.

  • This bottle, or carnet, requires years to enjoy. While ice hints of cedar, sharp pencil shavings, and dark-berry noses were enjoyable, the tannin was strong, and the overall balance was coarse and compromised.

  • Full bodied and aromatic. Great tannin and complexity. Long lasting finish. Overall a worthy wine from Margaux.

  • Dense and properly concentrated aromas with a wonderfully powerful core of blackberries, blackcurrants, plums, deep proper gravel, graphite, summer flowers, more flamboyant spice tones and leather. Pretty full-bodied and really dense and structured wine that will create joy - in 30 years! Really lovely fruit picture of dense blackcurrant fruit, plum peel, leather, licorice, herbs and deep salt layer on the scent. Lovely sweetness on an excellent and firm output. Very good acidity. This will be a queen. Really good wine. 95 points.

  • Joanne Bordeaux Trip 2018 (Bordeaux): Château Palmer 2017 A - The nose was restrained, showing dark red and black fruit, dried flowers and minerals. It was soft, silky on the palate with dark ripe fruit restrained by minerals and young tannins. Long and intense on the dark fruit finish, saturating to the senses, then fine tannin setting in and clenching down. (93 - 95 points)

Château Palmer 2017 B - The nose showed dark red fruit, floral tones, earth and minerals. On the palate, soft textures gave way to zesty pure dark fruits, with savory herbs, and dark inner florals tones. It finish with energy and good length, prettier than expected, almost lifted and quite refined. (94 - 96 points)
