  • In contrast to the ‘05 tasted alongside, this vintage is more streamlined and minerally with a sleak texture and very silky but still firm tannins. Delicious flavors of charcoal and smoky blackberries with plenty of balancing acidity. Like many right bank ‘98’s this has a ways to go yet and is still closed for business. 92+

  • A wine that has come a long way, to offer much pleasure today. Charming nose, with lots of fine cask notes, leather and garrigue. Medium bodied, elegant Libournais, with ripe blackberry, licorice, caramel, leather and a nice sweet finish. Some residual acidity probably owed to the year but a very enjoyable Saint Emilion.

  • A good hour of decanting here but did very little.
This wine has all the hallmarks of a great wine barring an expressive nose , and thus fails to sing. It is as if the 98 vintage with its ripeness has weighted this wine down and prevents it from singing. Or maybe it's still very much in its youth and will need another 10 years ( would not bet against it) . For the moment however it does not live up to expectations and the price tag. 90 and wait pls and pray.

  • Decanted. Needed an hour or so to open up. Dark core with minimal briacking. Black fruits, cedar, hint of smoke and graphite. The palate is still bold, fairly dense. Would have like to have seen more complexity here.
