  • The best Unico ever!! Bery serious effort from Vega Sicilia. Drink side by side with '81. Very complex nose of fruits and berries, integrated soft tannin and long finish

  • Need time to open and integrate. Very pretty wine.

  • Vega Sicilia Dinner with Pablo Alvarez (Tenzing - Chicago IL): Open and decanted for a few hours before serving. Black fruit with good spice. Nicely fresh, but less length, power and intensity than better bottles I've had in the past. But this kept getting more complete and interesting with more time in glass.

  • Pre Davos Wine Forum tasting (Zumikon, Switzerland): Lighter in color. Soy and mineral on the nose. A clean, pure, very pretty palate.

Espectacular color rubí granatoso de capa media-alta, de fuerte extracción, tapado, de enorme limpieza. Reflejos granadinos y ambarinos, luminoso, brillante.

(Bodegas Vega-Sicilia Ribera del Duero Único) Dark red violet color; smoky, tart currant nose with a touch of TCA; tart plum, currant and spice palate; medium-plus finish (I think the palate was impacted by the TCA as well, as I would have expected greater depth of flavor than this bottle was showing)

(Vega Sicilia Unico) The 1970 Vega Sicilia Unico had a great nose full of leather and peanut. Robert admired its ‘Bordeaux-like’ personality. Deep, rich, sweet and intense, the 1970 outshone the 1968 for the first time when I have had them side by side…I think

(Vega Sicilia "Unico") This was a stunner. Nose of cherries, earth, charcoal, wood burning-oven (like that smell when you walk into Gramercy Tavern) and loads of minerals. Very complex. The palate had incredible concentration of sweet cherry fruit and tremendous depth. Long finish that went on forever. Great Unico and blew away the '90 which was my benchmark (and only!) Unico until this.
