Light, roasted, earthy, and infused with truffles, the wine is fully-developed, finishing with red fruits that are almost on the tart side that you sense in the short finish. If you have a bottle, drink up sooner than later.

One of the best wines I've had from this vintage, which seems to be generating mixed reviews 15 years on. This wine still displays a fully dark red with very little bricking. Great bordeaux elements of earth, iron, tobacco on the nose eventually give way to very present, yet restrained, fruit elements on the palate that really give the wine a substantial backbone. Further flavors of dark fruits come out in the finish, with currant and plum coming out, with everything nicely framed by some sweet tannin in just about the right proportion. This producer has always been one of my favorite, and this bottle proves why - just such a treat in a tricky vintage (RP rates 2003 only an 84 in Pomerol). Worth noting that these pre-2005 Trotanoys can sometimes be purchased for reasonable prices (they started to raise them substantially after 2004).

Chocolate, plum, anise, cinnamon; slow, gradual, almost unending ascent; smooth soft tannins, lingering
