  • Very great wine, i'm just changing my score because the 2020 is really superior.

  • Deep ruby.

Deep and concentrated on the nose. Black plum, black cherry, blackberry, cedar, vanilla, sweet spices.

Incredibly ripe and concentrated on the palate. High tannins. Incredible finish.

*** Tasted as part of a walkaround 2018 Bordeaux tasting. Not full notes ***

  • 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. Solid aromas that takes hold with its concentrated fruit core of plums, blackberries, sweet cool smoke, licorice, cask and lots of spices. Pretty full-bodied and wonderful wine that take hold and spread out with all its power before the wine just stays up there. Complex fruit of plums. Blackberries, leather and licorice. Some graphite, against chalk on a long and tougher finish with firm tannins. The acid holds on to the wine, but consequently 15% alcohol is a lot. But as long as the balance is there, most things work. Brilliant wine.

  • Breathtaking in every sense of the word, this is what great Pomerol is all about. Dark in color, the complex bouquet starts off with flowers, truffle, chocolate, black cherry, incense, smoke, licorice and spice. But the best part of the wine takes place on your palate with its lavish display of velvet drenched fruits. The level of purity, coupled with its opulent, sensual qualities, length and complexity is almost off the charts! The finish easily crosses the 60 second mark! This is a future legend of Bordeaux.

  • Bordeaux 2018 from bottle (Bordeaux and Strasbourg): Power and glory! From barrel, I was calling this blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc a “Right Bank Montrose” and it has proven to be that, and then some. This has power, nuance, freshness… and length. One of the top wines of the vintage that – like Cheval Blanc and Lafite – transcends the vintage nature. Orange rind freshness on the long finish. This is gorgeous. Tasting with Jane Anson, we both agreed how special this wine is. Could it be the cooler western facing slope? Of course at its highest point of exposure, the soil contains a good proportion of gravel, but it gets progressively more dominated by clay as the elevation declines and under this clay is a subsoil of red gravel and an impermeable layer of hard, iron-rich soil known as “crasse de fer”, which certainly keeps things fresh.
