Surprisingly strong showing for this wine based on bottle tasted a couple of years ago. This wine had matured beautifully and seemed at its peak. Nice evolved Burgundy character with iron notes to go with the spices and fruit remnants. Soft tannins but just enough to hold everything together. Reassuring. Drink soon.

Second Sunday Group: 1995 Beaune (Eagle Brook CC): Double blind. Aromas of cherry, florals and red berry fruit with a nice underlying earthy element. Cherry and red berry fruit on the palate with a subtle hint of spice as well. Very pretty in the context of the flight.

This is a reliably good wine from this producer. It could have been even better...I don't have anything against unfiltered wine as a concept, but this wine was clearly not properly clarified, through racking or otherwise, prior to bottling. The result is slightly murky aromas that lack crispness and definition. The texture and all of the components are here. A rare case of sloppiness from this otherwise excellent producer.

Medium red, not crystal clarity. Fragrant mix of flowers and red fruits which are complemented by green herbs after several hours open. Light to medium weight. Tart red fruit, raspy acidity which took about 90 minutes to become calmer and less jarring, powerfully mineral finish. In the end, a very nicely developed '95 that still needed time to pull itself together. Not atypical for the vintage. It will never be sublime and probably always have a touch of awkwardness-I can relate.

Light red, turbid. Back and forth, and a tough call at first given the funky nature of this vintage, but this ultimately proved to be corked.
