This screams 1999! Lush, powerful fruit and plenty of structure. It’s drinking beautifully but seems like it is at best, barely secondary. Delicious, if not overly complex. Most enjoyable.

Good full red. Quite savory on the delicate nose. Engaging palate of ripe juicy fruit - in good balance with some woodsy tones. By the end of the second glass the tertiary notes seem more prominent but never overwhelm - wet leaves, tobacco, cedar, green herbs, leather. Acid gives the wine some freshness still and drives the palate onward. Tannins arrive late - are quite refined for a Beaune but a little drying. Very appropriate length. Fruit and structure both declining at more or less an equal pace, the wine’s balance reflects the high quality of the vineyard. A firmer representation of Beaune - with both Beaune’s attributes of being somewhat easygoing and its limitations in terms of the overall level of excitement induced. As good as I expected - which is to say really very good. But it is not fun. It does not stimulate. It lacks a little personality - which I think can be said of many Beaune reds. A fully ready 1999, it will still hold but I expect the tertiary components will assume the ascendancy quite soon, so I would drink this over the next five years or so. But this is in a fine place right now. Bought on release.

This is a step up from the same vintage of Sav La Bat last night. Similar structured style from the vintage, but a little more flesh on the bones currently, though still a little stolid. Good density, but lacking really in complexity, length and verve. Suspect the Morot 99s are in that slightly stuck phase where the exuberant fruit of youth has lost its gloss but the aromas and complexity of maturity are yet to develop. Will revisit in five years. ***

From magnum bottle. Still vibrant and surprisingly fresh. Nice acidity balance but not sufficient fruit and body. Nice minerality in the finish. 88-90P

(Albert Morot Beaune 1er Cru "Teurons") Plantains, cherry, cinnamon, cranberry, paprika and some floral hints. High-toned and very expressive. Just pure velvet on the palate with crunchy red fruits, wonderful elegance and depth and a long finish. Really captures the strength of the vintage. This will last a while. But drinking great today.

One of the wines of the weekend. Fruit is going strong, velvet texture, just entering maturity imo.
