  • Moulin Touchais vertical (AuZone, Stockholm): Amber colour. Powerful nose with madeirized notes, cocoa powder, red berries, spice, toffee and the interior of a Daim bar, some smoke. Spicy on the palate, fudge notes, nutty, high acidity, spicy, dried fruit. Both very developed aromas and vigour on the palate, with extra length to the aftertaste - lovely! It's the palate that lifts this wine, with its good acidity, good length and the fact that it didn't show the bitterness and other funky impressions of some old wines. It has definitely passed its peak quite some time ago, but its decline from that peak is slow and graceful due to its sugar and acidity.

From a bottle with very good fill level, good cork, a homogenous colour across the lot, i.e. should be a representative bottle from this look. Obviously recorked before sold, label style indicates that it probably left the producer in the 1990s. (Labelled Coteaux du Layon, not Anjou Blanc as the older labels) Surprisingly oxidized style for an old Moulin Touchais with such a high fill level, but still to my liking.

  • Very good fill with damp cork. Dark brassy/gold. Shy nose of honey, quince, a little tea and caramel. Flavors of honey, quince, white grape, with hints of tea, lavender, and maybe a very little caramel. Long. Fully mature and probably on the way down, a little simple and quiet, but very enjoyable now. With blue cheese and pate, but really needs to be drunk alone.
