  • Delicious. My wife describes as a silk scarf on a samurai sword. Hmmm. I get it.

Very approachable for a young wine.

Finished the bottle on night 3. Each night this wine gives more as it loosens up but it also gets more intense. Tannins not even close to being integrated. Fruit is dark zingy cherry wrapped in spices. Very good. long intense finish. A notch down from the VV but not by much. A great value that will reward patience.

If it were possible I’d buy a few cases of this.

    Last mouthful was the best!

  • Château de la Tour Visit and Tasting (Clos Vougeot): Tasted at the domaine, separately tasting three barrels (individual notes below), then an assemblage that is indicative of what the final blend will be. The assemblage showed lots of ripe black and red cherry that are still nearly sweet, complemented with a savory spicebox. Bright textures are engaging without obtruding. This should drink well on the younger side, 2026 forward, with 92-93+ point potential.

Barrel 1 (destemmed): Tart mostly red cherry, very bright and linear with taut character. Racy but only moderately fun.

Barrel 2 (50% whole cluster): Black and red cherry aromas and flavors, seemingly layered already, well balanced, easily the best of the three (but not as good as the assemblage).

Barrel 3 (70% whole cluster): Bold black cherry and berry through, firm and tannic with lots of spice, but also backward.

Each taste's character and structure is obviously not just driven by the stem inclusion since each is from different plots with their own terroir character, but this was overall very insightful.

  • Tasting at CdlT with Edouard (Vougeot): Barrel tasting of individual components.

Barrel 1 - bottom section fully de-stemmed. Excellent power and purity to the fruit with significant energy across the mid-palate. Shorter length.

Barrel 2 - bottom section 70% whole cluster. Similar power but so much more spice and whole cluster intrigue - feels like the volume is turned way up.

Barrel 3 - top section. Whoa, so much more concentration and muscle while maintaining the energy and balance.

  • Tuesday Burgundy Cellar Visits - Mugneret-Gibourg, Dujac, Château de la Tour, and Fourrier (Cote d'Or): Tasting at the domaine. More black fruit comes through than red fruit. showing the vintage ripeness, but yet this easily manages to remain bright and elegant. Well balanced already and nicely harmonious with good enough weight, length and concentration. Will drink well young, 2025 forward, 90-92 point potential. 50-60% whole cluster, >40% new oak.
