Flickinger Tasting at The Casino (Chicago, IL): Burly and tannic, but definitely a step up from the awfully mediocre wines that Jaboulet has been churning out for decades. Stern and charmless, with black fruit and technically correct winemaking. But this is missing salinity, smoke, meat, and all the things that make syrah syrah. Would love to see what Chave or Graillot could make of this historically important plot.

Better integrated wood vs LMB. Feels grand and deep, fresh and poised, with well-defined blue/black fruits. Fragrant, ripe and juicy, a little vanilla sweetness, also liquorice and some vapour.
Full and notably silky rather than simply creamy, with some spice and tang. Pretty compact and firm. Sappy in parts, the tannins are plentiful and ripe with a fine chalky grip. Savoury, mineral, powerful and clean.

Nose of blue fruit, aromatically very primary still. The tannis are very silky here. I am sure this will be very good wine after 2035. 93-95
