My first foray into the world of Northern Rhone Syrah’s. Ethereal, mouthfeel was incredible. Tannic structure was perfect, dark fruit, black peppercorn, smoke, hint of leather, balanced acidity. Beautiful wine!! Wish I had another!

(100% Syrah, 14% Alkohol) Gereiftes Rubinrot. Herrliche Nase, sehr Syrah, Leder, Pfeffer, Moschus. Gradlinig im Gaumen, was für eine Grazie, elegant, nicht überschwänglich, harmonisch, verführerisch. Es gibt wohl keinen besseren Moment, als diesen Wein jetzt zu trinken. Jetzt bis 2030

Monday hangout at Domaine (Chicago, IL): Served double blind. A bit stewy with something like an Amarone-lite kind of quality (perhaps like a Ripasso?). Only one personal at a table of 10 called it as a syrah at all -- we were all over the place; I was thinking this might have even been sagrantino for a moment with its dark fruit and leathery profile. I didn't get smoke, brine, or olive -- this was syrah basically trying to be something else. Another in a long line of misses from Jaboulet -- wish they would just sell the land to Chave so that some actual good wine could come out of it.

Tasted blind. Dark and brooding, ripe black plums, good acidity and very fine tannins. Felt resolved and I thought it was older and didn’t recognize it as an Hermitage, almost too clean for a La Chapelle.

Light ruby, no bricking. Clean strawberry nose. Light body, smooth tannins. Elegant and beyond reproach. But not super interesting.
