Northern Rhone Night for Last Thursday (Willamette Wine Storage - Portland, OR): This nose is immediately firm and is dominated by pine boards, like 2x4's at the hardware store. Blackberry scents are there as well, as is something that suggests richness. The wine starts out lightly, and some aged cherry character shows initially. The aged cherries bloom nicely into some plum and spice flavors on the mid palate. It's full and firm on the finish. The age is serving this well as everything is pretty well balanced. 90-

Northern Rhone (blind) (Willamette Wine Storage): Richer and deeper color, a little musty on the nose, but still pleasing and exuberant. Interesting cola flavor on the palate, wet forest, wood, and damp earth. Pretty nice. Totally disorienting fried egg component on the finish, tasting of the oil and pan as well; interesting, and not bad, but it's still kind of weird and burning. Off balanced finish.

nose: nice evolved nose of cracked pepper and various other pepper tones, violets, blueberry, sweet cherry, bits of leather and earth. nice smooth nose that is well balanced and integrated and almost seems grenache-like in style
taste: loads of various pepper tones with some good red cherry tones, black berry, leather, mixed berries, and floral tones
overall: a really pretty wine with a wonderful nose right now. Great attack and mid palate, but, its the finish that is slightly lacking. Still this is some fun stuff that is tons of fun to drink. Lots of elegance with a great medium-light feel that is almost like a heavy burg in weight. A highly enjoyable wine

8 Rhone Reds Tasted (Walnut Creek, Ca.): Touch volatile, lovely wet forest floor, allspice, and sage on the nose, medium body, medium finish. My #8 of 8.
