Ninth Annual White Truffle Dinner (Chez Weber - Chicago IL): Open several hours before serving. Mature black fruit aromas and flavors with some charming sweet baking spice and black pepper with some sautéed mushroom character. My favorite of the flight, even if this comes across as more advanced than the 1980 vintage in the same flight. Next time I'd give this less air before serving.
Tasted blind, this wine showed a deep purple/red center with some orange at the rim. The nose seemed Bugundian at first and then the scents began to lead me south. The high- intensity nose (after 3 hours of air) showed black cherries, soil, mulberries, molasses, and brown spice.
In the mouth, this wine was ripe and rich with a spicey mid-palate and great length. The tannin and acidity were perfectly integrated. This is the real deal! While I would say this is at its peak, there is no rush to enjoy this beauty.
