  • During a tasting dinner. This was quite dense for the vintage. Earthy notes with dark fruit, coffee and toast notes as well. Some found it to be too extracted. For me it was ok.

  • PopnPour, tasted over 3 hrs
-dark red core with moderate bricking
-funk, animale, stewed black cherry and berry, mature element
-lower acidity, med weight and concentration pick up over 2 hrs, subtle somber black fruit remnants and earth, masculine though not brawny, minimal tannins but some sediment provides back end grip
-drinking well squarely in the middle of its maturity plateau, it's animale/sauvage/dark fruit/somber earth/lower acidity/elegant nature makes this very Gevrey, very Bachelet and very 2000

  • Confrerie des Chevaliers du Tastevin Singapore - Back to Basics 2012 (Absinthe, Bukit Pasoh): This was another very good village. It certainly is not priced at normal village prices these days, but you could somewhat see how Bachelet justifies that. The nose seem more NSG than Gevrey to me initially, with metally mineral, earthy sous bois aromas and wood-spicy undertones to its little black fruited. No mistaking it on the palate though. It was very yummy, with a sappy, rich, rather extracted show of sweet cherries sounded with lots of depth and structure - typical bold Bachelet fashion here. Perhaps not something for those in search of a more subtle, ethereal style of Burgundy, but there was actually plenty to like here, with the rich depth of fruit also showing a lovely sense of clarity and balance so that the wine was lovely to drink. I would have liked it even more if not for the fact that it seemed to have a slight gap at the finish. It was missing something that I could not quite put my finger on. Nevertheless, I actually liked this quite a bit even though my taste in Burgundies have shifted a bit over the years. Good to drink now, although this has the stuffing to go for longish time yet.

  • Really impressive quality for what it is (a village 2000!). Quintessential gevrey and bachelet. Savoury, notes of game and some spices. Long. I've always thought that Bachelet delivers one level above its appelation and this village wine confirms that: could easily be a good producer's 1er cru. A very pleasurable drink that does not break the bank!

  • Lovely mature aromatics; savoury, leathery and meaty with pale red fruited flavours beneath and a lightness of touch that makes it very easy to drink. Yum.
