Decanted 20 mins prior to serving. End of 1st glass noticed a VA on the nose. 30 mins later poured 2nd glass, worse- poured out. Replaced with a 2018 Walla Walla Syrah that was far superior and only $9.

1994 Graham Porto Vintage Port Blend
Followed my own advice in previous note and drank whole 375ml with my wife in one sitting. Her first word was "Balance!" and that is exactly what it is. Balance, harmony, clarity and depth. Lists of separate qualities are entirely unable to grasp the essence of such a wine. Numerical scores are a different attempt at the same. And fail also. This taste was singular. A great opera baritone singing a perfect note. Samuel Ramey, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, Tito Gobbi and Sherrill Milnes are completely different voices easily distinguished. And so are portos like this.
Bravissimo!

Retail $65. 100% Chardonnay. Another six months since the last bottle of this wine, and it is still remarkably fabulous. Consistent notes. Speaking of "last bottle" I purchased this from LastBottleWines.com and when it came up again just a few days ago on the site? I bought another case.

Solid wine but not amazing. For the price point it is quite decent, but fell off with air and definitely didn't hold up for day 2. Good flavors but for the cost, or slightly more there are way better champs.

My first Delmas Syrah. I’d really like to acquire more of these, but the forced 6-pack from the winery for each wine is tough.

I double decanted this for about an hour before consuming. Extremely floral! The co-ferment of 8% Viognier really makes this jump from the glass. There is a balance of funk (Rocks district), stems and even some sweet stone fruit aromatically (from the Viognier). This feels like a middle ground of KVintners (big fruit, some savory/funk) and Cayuse (big funk, some fruit). It has a green/stemmy flair, but overall it’s a more fresh and fragrant style of Syrah. I’m a bit shocked at how ready to go this is…double decanted, but hardly any acidity or tannin at the finish. Incredibly easy to drink. Potpourri, iron, peppercorn crusted raspberries and rhubarb with added savory dark fruits at the finish. Delicious Syrah!

A limited edition from Louis Jadot. Only made in good year by blending juices from various Beaune 1er Cru plots. The previous was in 2009. Cristal clear ruby. Expressive nose of red currant and forest. Amazing fruit and mineral, still slightly tannic. Refreshing. Outstanding quality at this price point. Still have a decade to go and should get a dozen more!

PS very much improved from previous tasting note when tasted young.

Kirsten scores this a 99. Rich, honeysuckle aromas. Heavy in the glass with a nice weight and beautiful legs. Sweet entry, nice balancing acidity with a pinch of botrytis at the finish. Bottle #1 of of a case of 6 magnums. This is still very young and we'll see how it continues to age.

Adanti is a wonderful producer at a reasonable price point, though the heavy hitters are Arnaldo Caprai and Paolo Bea.

59% Merlot, 34% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Cabernet Franc, 2% Malbec, 1% Petit Verdot. A merlot dominant blend with all five of the Bordelais varieties, this is fairly dark in the glass with dark red fruit, pepper, and spice on the nose. The palate is fairly reserved with fruit, tartness, and a touch of spunk on the finish. This paired well with the NY Strip and could possibly benefit from short-term cellaring. thedrunkencyclist.com

Very nice. Maybe a little lacking in acid which made it a poor pairing with Thanksgiving pies. Would not pair with something that sweet again. Would probably be good solo.
  • Momus99 commented:

9/18/19, 8:50 AM - Addendum: We only drank half the bottle last Thanksgiving and I stoppered and vacuumed the bottle and put it in the refrigerator...FOR ALMOST 10 MONTHS. Popped it open again the other night and it was almost indistinguishable from when we opened it 10 months ago. Maybe a little less "fresh" in the aromatics, and with the shortcoming noted above, but still fairly drinkable.

Decanted 6 hrs and served with braised oxtails and chorizo, a superb pairing I might add. The 07 was my first Ygay, and while I really enjoyed it, this wine is a clear step above. Yes, the use of new oak is apparent on the nose and palate, but the shoe just seems to fit the foot so to speak, as it really works well, though give this some additional age and I bet some real fireworks will emerge. Dark berries carry a slight smoky edge, already expansive with a wide palate coverage, and a closing note of fresh earth and spices. Powerful yet elegant, again this is has great potential written all over it. If you have three or more bottles worth a peak, otherwise hold for at least 5 years – perhaps 10.

A different animal from the wonderfully concentrated ‘15, this exhibits noir fruit, raspberry, pork shoulder, violets, red lava, stout beer and chocolate orchid. There’s an idealistic purity of fruit, with beauty and precision. Very silky tannnins and the finish is savory, with length. I love the aftertaste of mixed berries and herbs. Decanted for three hours and capable of a long study. The body is paradoxically transparent and suave, yet there’s density and a raciness. Drink 2022 -.

from 375. Jill opened this somehow thinking it was an old rose. No clue how one could make that mistake.

Anyhow, a little darker in the glass than the bottle from last year. Lovely notes of apricot, peach and honey in the nose. Fruit and honey on the palate with a nice viscous mouthfeel and a good balance between the sweetness and acidity, though agree with others that a bit more acidity would be nice.

Have now clearly labeled my remaining two so Jill doesn't make the same mistake again.

My bottle was a fake purchased from WTSO. There is no way that the cork that I pulled out of this bottle was anywhere near 10 years old, and the wine was not more than 3-4 years old - maybe younger. That said, it was not an unpleasant young wine. Perhaps the counterfeiters have transitioned from the super high-priced old classics to highly-rated, fairly widely-produced mid-priced wines.
  • Momus99 commented:

7/1/15, 5:27 PM - Apologies if you're already aware of this, but many Spanish wineries hold back reservas and gran reservas well beyond the minimum required amount of time between harvest and bottling, so a 2001 may only have been bottled, say, in 2011...
