Red
2021 Catherine & Dominique Derain Saint-Aubin Le Ban Pinot Noir
First time trying a Derain, cloudy & v light red, pink actually, upon opening expressive nose of barley, whole clusters, cherries, v acidic, so let this breath for 1.5 hrs, didn’t improve, sigh, lots gas too, this wine is flawed
  • Claret & CdP Gang commented:

3/6/24, 6:09 PM - Yes age may improve it though I think there is a lack of fruits.

Red
2021 Envinate Benje Ycoden Daute Isora Listán Prieto
Magnum, Popped 2 hours bfr drinking, funky nose, rotten egg smell, another off Benje, sigh

Day 2
Kept half in bottle & decanter, all the stink blew away & was much better
  • Claret & CdP Gang commented:

2/19/24, 7:56 PM - Yes, it was lovely the next day

Red
2021 Envinate Benje Ycoden Daute Isora Listán Prieto
Sigh second off bottle of the afternoon, this was downright nasty stinky cow shit from the start, never got better & down it went into the drain
  • Claret & CdP Gang commented:

2/13/24, 2:54 AM - No problem, it happens, we move on!

White
2020 Domaine Pattes Loup Chablis Vent d'Ange Chardonnay
At Vintry’s Christmas sale, small pour, didn’t quite like this, funky nose,
  • Claret & CdP Gang commented:

    12/16/23, 4:10 PM - The 2018 & 2019s were v nice.

Red

Decanted for 2 hrs, inky, black fruits, graphite, iron, lots earth, powerful nose with zen like mouthfeel, elegance elegance elegance! Will get better, drank with 01 Comte Vogue Musigny, 08 Rayas & 2011 Rousseau Clos Roche
96+
  • Claret & CdP Gang commented:

4/19/23, 4:16 PM - Yes it was! Birthday dinner for a dear friend

Nose of the night, ripe strawberries & sandalwood, lychee, such a fantastic nose with full of layers, sexy, beautiful, kept evolving, great on the palate too with pure sweet Grenache, long, stupendous wine, drank with 01 Comte Vogue Musigny, 96 Ch Margaux & 2011 Rousseau Clos Roche

  • Claret & CdP Gang commented:

    4/19/23, 3:24 PM - Lovely wines for a friend’s birthday dinner

Red
2007 Giuseppe E Figlio Mascarello Barolo Monprivato Nebbiolo
Light red, lighter than the 2011 Jadot CSJ, sweet ripe red fruits, nothing out of place but just wanting a bit more
  • Claret & CdP Gang commented:

12/24/22, 12:12 AM - Lol I might not be around in 30 years. Cheers

Red
2011 Domaine du Pégau Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Réservée Red Rhone Blend
Barnyard nose, red fruits, classic Pegau, drinking at peak, a stellar Cdp in a weak vintage
  • Claret & CdP Gang commented:

11/14/21, 1:42 AM - Yes, good to drink your bottles.

Red
2016 G.D. Vajra Barolo Albe Nebbiolo
Decanted for 2 hours, sweet cherries, pungent powerful nose, medium to full bodied, such a good base Barolo, really needs 2-3 more years or a long 3 hour decant
  • Claret & CdP Gang commented:

5/7/21, 4:38 PM - Thanks. Yes good idea to try them in 2024. Should only get better with age.

Red
1964 Ceretto Barolo Riserva Nebbiolo

My second bottle of this and it did not disappoint. Tar, light black fruits, no edge anywhere, round mouthfeel, fruit still there, alcohol way in the background, cloudy so let it settle a few days, soft cork but in good shape, bricking, nice acid. While drinking well now, this has a decade or more in it if you want to keep it around. I have two more in the cellar for another time. Lovely experience.
  • Claret & CdP Gang commented:

4/4/21, 3:57 PM - Lovely note! Did you decant the wine or opened to air before drinking? I have a bottle so your input would be v helpful.

  • Claret & CdP Gang commented:

4/4/21, 8:11 PM - Thank you very much for the helpful tips!

Agree with BILLYT and CLARET & CDP GANG re tasti notes; see their comments.

Would emphasize that this needs a decant of at least 1-2 hours. Tried a slow ox for a couple of hours and it wouldn’t budge. Really came alive after some time in the decanter.
  • Claret & CdP Gang commented:

3/14/21, 10:50 PM - Hi! How was the wine after decanting? Was thinking of popping one

  • Claret & CdP Gang commented:

3/15/21, 7:00 AM - Thanks for the feedback! Will open one to track its evolution & keep remaining bottles til closer to 2030. I like my Burgs with some age & complexity.

Red
2008 Château Haut-Bailly Pessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend
CNY wine session, tasted blind, guessed Bordeaux, classic Bordeaux nose, dark fruits, bell pepper, iron, good concentration & length
  • Claret & CdP Gang commented:

2/14/21, 2:39 PM - This bottle was decanted for 2 hours which it needed. Can drink now if you like Bordeaux on the young side.

  • Claret & CdP Gang commented:

2/14/21, 3:10 PM - Glad to be of help.

Red
2001 Château Cos d'Estournel St. Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend
CNY wine session, tasted blind, guessed Bordeaux left bank, secondary nose after 2 hours, lovely wine that’s in its drinking window
  • Claret & CdP Gang commented:

2/14/21, 2:37 PM - Yes. Drinking perfectly now.

Red
2006 Château Rayas Châteauneuf-du-Pape Pignan Reserve Grenache
10/9/2020 - Claret & CdP Gang Likes this wine:

Served blind, red with bricking, sweet Grenache, guessing from the Rayas stable, think a Pignan with age, has the trademark strawberries, mature, savoury finish, lovely wine
  • Claret & CdP Gang commented:

10/15/20, 10:51 AM - Based on this bottle I would say it’s at peak drinking.

Red
1996 Robert Ampeau & Fils Volnay 1er Cru Santenots Pinot Noir
Light red with bricking, P&P, gamey, mushrooms upon opening, iodine, v good complexity on the nose, sweet in the mouth, delicious balance, with time in the Zalto really opened up, wotn
  • Claret & CdP Gang commented:

10/2/20, 7:27 PM - Hi. Ex domaine and yes Ampeau cellars their wines til it’s ready. Need more producers like them.

Red
2007 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Romanée St. Vivant Romanée St. Vivant Grand Cru Pinot Noir
6/29/2020 - Burgnick Likes this wine:

Three hours of air before serving. Spice, green stems, coffee beans, perfume and red currant. Very good acidity and precise red fruit. No doubt alluring but the palate was on a slightly leaner side which is not surprising for the vintage. 94+
  • Claret & CdP Gang commented:

9/28/20, 1:12 AM - Hey Nick! Is it in its drinking window? If not when do you think it be at peak drinking

  • Claret & CdP Gang commented:

9/28/20, 1:20 AM - Thanks bro! Stay safe, we are in strange times. Sante!

Was looking forward to this blanc, buttery, citrus, apricots, full bodied, rich, tangy, oily, good complexity, good solid wine
92+

    7/30/20, 5:07 PM - Hi KillerJones!

Easily reach 2025, 2030 shouldn’t be a problem too. Should merit another point or two by 2025

  • Claret & CdP Gang commented:

7/30/20, 5:09 PM - Saved half a bottle for Day 2. Will post a note if it evolves.

Red
1996 Château Rayas Châteauneuf-du-Pape Reserve Grenache
6/28/2020 - Claret & CdP Gang Likes this wine:

LFC celebration dinner! Light red, funky at start, blows off, lighter style Rayas, fully mature, sweet Grenache in the mouth, elegant, never had a 96, after 2.5 hours really beautiful nose of sweet fruits, stunning nose! Really needed that 2-3 hours to strut its stuff, drank alongside with the 05
  • Claret & CdP Gang commented:

6/28/20, 8:11 AM - Yes it was a good bottle though upon opening my friend was close to pouring it down the drain! It just needed time to open up, sublime Rayas

Red
2007 Domaine Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage Syrah
purple color, what a nose, herbs, floral, classy, full bodied, complex, long
  • Claret & CdP Gang commented:

    6/2/20, 6:27 AM - Yes.

Red
2008 Château Rayas Châteauneuf-du-Pape Pignan Reserve Grenache
Strawberries & cream, young, lovely, but bit short, pretty is the word
  • Claret & CdP Gang commented:

2/20/20, 11:06 PM - Oh wow, thanks for the info. Fooled me.

  • Claret & CdP Gang commented:

Red
2013 Opus One Napa Valley Red Bordeaux Blend
1/30/2019 - Claret & CdP Gang Likes this wine:
91 points
Drank with some big hitters 78 Margaux, 78 Las Cases, 85 Lynch, 96 Margaux, 97 Rayas, first time trying an Opus, not impressed, decanted for 2 hours, dark red, mocha, liquorice, a bit too manufactured, but balanced, powerful, painful young
91+
  • Claret & CdP Gang commented:

2/1/19, 6:38 PM - Yes you are right. It was too young and needed cellar time.

Red
2015 Domaine Bernard Baudry Chinon Le Clos Guillot Cabernet Franc
Tasting at Stoked KL, meaty, barnyard, masculine, acidic, lacking finesse, odd one out in today’s Burgundies
  • Claret & CdP Gang commented:

12/30/18, 11:13 PM - You are absolutely correct.

Red
2011 Ridge Monte Bello Santa Cruz Mountains Red Bordeaux Blend
Dark purple, decanted for 1.5 hours, minty nose, cassis, cool vintage, drank with the 95, very similar but this was more youthful, toffee nose after time in the glass, outstanding, finessed, probably best after another 3-5 years
  • Claret & CdP Gang commented:

    7/1/18, 8:10 PM - Enjoy them! Elegant & finesse

Red
2011 La Pousse d'Or Volnay 1er Cru Clos des 60 Ouvrées Pinot Noir
Tight shut nose, bit disappointed, either in a dormant stage or symptoms of the vintage, acidic, young, forgettable
89
  • Claret & CdP Gang commented:

6/27/18, 8:04 PM - Hi there! Had only a short decant so definitely agree with you that it's shut down. The Pousse 60 Ouvrees is a good solid Volnay.

  • Claret & CdP Gang commented:

6/27/18, 9:30 PM - Hi. It was a test bottle. Was going to get more if it was good but guess not. Had the 02 Pousse volnay bousse last year and it was delicious so thought the 60 Ouvrees be equally good if not better

  • Claret & CdP Gang commented:

6/27/18, 11:38 PM - Thanks for the tip on the boillot.

  • Claret & CdP Gang commented:

6/28/18, 4:09 AM - Wow! We should meet up! I'm Kelvin btw & my Hp is 0122036081. Got a wine group here about 10 of us & we meet regularly to eat & pop good bottles. We drink mostly older Bordeaux, burgs, barolos & cdp.

Red
2009 Jean-Jacques Confuron Clos Vougeot Clos Vougeot Grand Cru Pinot Noir
Cloudy red, red fruits, gamey, complex nose with secondary aromas, rich, broad and elegant in the mouth, keeps getting better with age, an excellent Vougeot!
  • Claret & CdP Gang commented:

    6/21/18, 10:58 PM - Hi Nick,

Yes it's a lovely wine, good price level too. We been buying his Clos Vougeot ever since the first time we tried. And it's accessible young too.

Red
2009 Château des Tours Côtes du Rhône Red Rhone Blend
7/31/2016 - Claret & CdP Gang Likes this wine:

Classic sweet Grenache nose of wild strawberries, very nice and elegant, in the mouth good concentration, better than the 2011s that we been drinking recently, sexy, ripe, quite long, very appealing, delicious
92
  • Claret & CdP Gang commented:

4/19/17, 8:23 AM - Hi Nick! Yes it's been awhile. Both are the same wine. Delicious if you can get hold. Mini Rayas

Drank alongside the 2004 890, very similar at this stage, delicious, so well made and offering oodles of pleasure

  • Claret & CdP Gang commented:

1/30/17, 4:17 PM - Absolutely agree. At its price point the 904 is the winner

The best "modern" Rayas since 1995. Early sings of maturity. Someone knows what's happen with Rayas reserve 2010?
  • Claret & CdP Gang commented:

1/6/17, 6:44 AM - I believe they as in the Rayas winemaker want to age the 2010 longer in barrels before releasing. The 09s which both of us posted notes had a small initial release and I think they have decided to release the second batch later.

Red
2010 Descendientes de José Palacios Bierzo Villa de Corullon Mencía
Dark red, burgundy like in both nose and palate, elegant and flowery, a cross between a cdp and burgundy, unusual
92
  • Claret & CdP Gang commented:

9/5/16, 3:55 PM - Hope you liked the wine as much as we did

White - Sparkling
2004 Dom Pérignon Champagne Champagne Blend
Color: very light
Nose: funky with lilies, floral
Palate: lovely crisp, luscious, creamy, sophisticated but would I pay this much for a champagne? Hmm no, branded champagne are overrated and not worth the price
92
  • Claret & CdP Gang commented:

11/13/15, 5:23 PM - Hi. The billecart salmon nv is a delicious bubbly at almost a third of the DP price

Red
2010 Château Cantenac Brown Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend
Nose: from a 375ml bottle, ripe, blackberry jam, touch of forest floor, very intense, almost over the top,
Palate: mouth coating, long finish, everything in lovely equilibrium, layered, this will be a stupendous Margaux when it reaches its peak, build for the ages, delicious, Parker called this beauty the greatest Cantenac he has tasted, never tiring on the palate and always inviting you back for the next sip, very good QPR
94+
  • Claret & CdP Gang commented:

9/9/15, 10:56 PM - Yes decanted and drank over 2.5 hours. Would have been better if I decanted an hour or two before drinking

Red
2011 Domaine Dujac Morey St. Denis Pinot Noir
8/21/2015 - Claret & CdP Gang Likes this wine:
90 points
Color: med red
Nose: nice but still needs time, subdued, think best in 2-3 years time
Palate: very good for its level but can't beat dujac's chambolle musigny, just lacking that precision and finesse but still good Pinot
90
  • Claret & CdP Gang commented:

8/22/15, 2:01 AM - Nope, no greenie meanies! But think will need bit more time

White
1991 R. López de Heredia Rioja Blanco Gran Reserva Viña Tondonia White Blend
Color: pale yellow
Nose: lemony, lovely bouquet, bees wax, nutty, very complex
Palate: wow still young, citrus, still high acidity, a distinctly interesting Blanc
  • Claret & CdP Gang commented:

6/6/15, 6:02 AM - Hope you enjoy the 91 Lopez! It's still pretty young on the palette! Imagine it's 24 yrs old and still young! I have a 94 Lopez tondonia grand reserva red can't wait to try it!

  • Claret & CdP Gang commented:

6/30/15, 2:30 AM - Hi sorry the 91 was my first time drinking a white Lopez. Hope you like it!
