Tasted Thursday, November 25, 2021 - Saturday, November 27, 2021 by Burgundy Al with 381 views
I had previously tasted several Morgen Long wines, so had the opportunity to tasted from barrel with Seth Morgen Long. Very educational indeed. Since Seth was not 100% certain regarding which wines will be combined vs kept separate, I may add/ edit a notes in the future once that is decided.

Wines assembled in tank. This cuvee is partly from early picking at Durant Vineyard and late picking from the Yamhill Vineyard. Bright apple and lemon peel with lots of energy. 12.7% with just under 2 g/L RS that is imperceptible. Good+ potential, 90+ points.

Wine assembled in tank. Lighter the the Willamette Chardonnay, and slightly brighter. Medium weight. Also good potential.

Wine assembled in tank. Combination of Seven Springs and X Omni. As bright of the previous wines, but richer and more layered. Very impressive. Also approx 12.7% with more new oak. Very good 91-92+ point potential. A personal favorite.

Two different wines tasted, which will most likely be bottled separately under names TBD. Seth told us the differences only after tasted.
1. Wine assembled in tank. Fresh and bright mostly apple here, ending slightly tart. Good weight. Good potential, but I preferred the Eola-Amity blend of Seven Springs and X Omni. 50% new oak, 12.7%, acidulated.
2. Wine assembled in tank. Fleshier, more open and lush. Fun now but seemingly more overt new oak, then ending with a less bright finish, faintly bitter. 60% new oak, 13.4%, chaptalized.

Wines assembled in tank. Apple, pear and lemon with floral and spice notes. 15 clones result in a complex and layered wine that I particularly enjoy. This is from Block 5, while Block 4 went into the blend. 60% new oak, 12.8%. One of my personal favorites, 92-93+ point potential.

Wine already assembled in tank. Very impressive at all levels. All sorts of orchard fruit with great depth and concentration. Good brightness, very good length. From 1968 planted block of Draper clone, Volcanic soil, 100% new oak. 92-93+ point potential.

Wine assembled in tank. It takes a confident winemaker to serve a wine he expects to discard. The wine was actually tasty other than the somewhat bitter finish, which Seth explains is from the smoke taint. Seth seems like such a perfectionist, which is great for us.

Tasted at winery. Bright lemony start, warmer middle and finish. Not as rich or complete as the wonderful Bunker Hill in the next glass.

Tasted at the winery. West facing slope brings most richness to this wine. Apple, Meyer lemon and lemon zest with subtle floral and spiced notes in a very harmonious combination. Very good now, with further upside.

Tasting at the winery. Big step up from 2016, this has more bold fruit, turns vintage ripeness into enticing richness, and shows good density for such young vines. Better to cellar at least a year or two.

Tasted at the winery. Black and red cherry everywhere with some meatiness. More density and tannin vs the Estate cuvee, but also more firm and slightly awkward. Possibly greater potential, but more patience required, better 2024 forward.

Tasted at the winery. Red cherry start-to-finish, very easy and fun right now, even if slightly simple. Good value wine.

Tasting at Resonance. Apple and baked apple with good balance and even better density. I liked this more today vs when tasted from barrel in 2017, having put on weight while retaining its balance.

Tasted at the winery. Bright red fruit throughout, just slightly more grip than I would consider ideal given moderate density. Better to cellar another year or two.

Tasted at the winery. Ripe black fruit with spice and mint notes, showing wonderful balance and depth. Very good now, with further upside. This wine has harmonized very nicely, and I liked this much more today vs when tasted at Jadot in Beaune in 2018.

Tasted at Resonance. Lots here, very Corton-like in terms of power and tannins. Black and red cherry, with tannins in front for now. Cellar until at least 2026, certainly 90+ point potential.

Tasting at open house. Both ripe and lean apple aromas and flavors with a very long, bright and elegant finish. 13.2% with ~45% new oak. From Chehalem, Eola and a secret vineyard. Better to cellar for a year or three, with 92-93 point potential.

Tasted at open house. Strawberry and apple both shine, with 70% Chardonnay, 30% Pinot Noir cepage. Very length, bright finish, maybe slightly tart at end, seeming more Ultra Brut.

Tasted at open house. Bright red cherry throughout, nicely spiced, nearly perfumed. Great nose, slightly less enchanting on palate for now, better to hold another year or two.

Tasting at open house. Popped-and-poured. Red cherry and berry alluring on nose, somewhat reticent on palate. Long, silky finish hints at the exciting potential here. All grapes hand snipped so nearly completely destemmed but allowing some carbonic fermentation at the very start, followed by amphora fermentation, then elevage in 40-50% new oak (long toasting time, but low temp).

Tasted at open house. Bright and fresh, this seemed elegant other than a bit or protruding new oak (1/3 new, 1/3 once used, 1/3 neutral) that isn't yet fully integrated, so patience required for more harmony here.

Tasted at open house. Red cherry, some cranberry, all very bright with good depth and concentration. Richer start, slightly tart finish. Vineyard planted in 1984. Very good now, better in another year or two.

January 2019 disgorgement, 1.5 g dosage, but shown as "Brut." 100% Pinot Noir. Bright and ripe strawberry throughout, with good weight and length, better balance, even if slightly more austere than I consider ideal.

Tasted at winery alongside Burgundy 1er Cru. Softly floral with an orchard fruit aromatic start. Begins with rich apple and pear flavor on palate, then softer from the middle through finish, ending nicely balanced.

Tasted at Antica Terra alongside Aurata 2019. Floral start with orchard fruit aromas. Seemingly ripe start on the palate with softer structure, but fruit and structure balance out in the middle as everything picks up steam. Ends with engaging minerality and good length. Good now, probably slightly better in another year or three.

Tasted at Antica Terra. Very meaty black fruit start-to-finish with a woodsiness and good density. Lots of power here, but also lots of tannins in a brooding style for now. I don't know the typical trajectory for this wine, and while I like the wine and appreciate its style, find it hard to anticipate its future, other than knowing it will certainly be very interested as it finds more harmony. 89 points today, and certainly upside from there.

Tasted the the winery alongside Mugnier '18 Clos de la Marechale. Spiced start with lots of exuberant black and red cherry with impressive purity and depth showing sneaky length, ending with a finessed charm. Better to cellar a few years, this is 92 points for me today, but with 93+ point potential as its sheds some baby fat.

Tasted at Antica Terra alongside Antikythera '18. Ripe and fleshy for Mugnier but with good balance, weight and length despite the ripeness that makes that difficult. Slightly better today vs when last tasted earlier this year, and I expect it will continue to improve as it integrates and soften further.

Tasted at Antica Terra. Big, bold black plum and cherry, all very powerful with roasted meat notes. Still firmly tannic and so slightly awkward. Not as approachable as the 2013 Gold Series #3 tasted last year, but still so fresh that this has a long life ahead of it.

Tasted at Antica Terra. Black plum, currant with liqueur and silky textures with subtle tannins in the very near background. Very harmonious with good weight and better length. Even better than the 2013/2014 blend I tasted in 2018. Impressive.

i was introduced to Mark Thomas, GM of Rose & Arrow as well as Alit. Great wine and a very educational 4+ hour tasting.
(11/27/2021)
Tasted at winery tasting room. Lean and bright with good weight, better length. Persistent sense of orchard fruit throughout. Winery is very excited about this site, and it will be the source of what is likely to be the first Rose & Arrow Chardonnay in 2021.

Tasted at the winery tasting room. Red fruit throughout a hint of ripeness, but nicely bright enough and balanced. Floral and spice hints give me a hint of Volnay. Good on the younger side, 2022-2030.

Tasting at the winery tasting room. So much like the Black Walnut, but even brighter textures supporting the bright red fruit, resulting in a longer finish. Kept getting bigger and better with more time in glass.

Tasting at the winery tasting room. Also impressive with more concentration vs the younger vintages tasted, showing some roasted meat. bacon, anise and clove, with boysenberry and black cherry. Lots of power, this is already balanced but reticent, so will reward more cellar time.

Tasting at the winery tasting room. Probably the most concentration of all the wines tasted here today, but not quite as accessible as most. Complex array of red and black fruit with bright textures, some firm tannins in the middle, ending with a long finish that is still a bit backward. A wine I would be thrilled to re-visit in another few years, 93-94+ point potential.

All black fruit with a meaty character, good+ weight and length. Surprisingly fresh, but still slightly firm in the middle, I like everything here, even if it isn’t quite as harmonious as the Broadley 2004 CC just tasted.

Magnum. Black, blue and red fruit comes across as fully ripe and large-scaled with impressive volume. Just a baby now, that volume with soften as the wine mature and reaches it potential, probably 2024 forward.

In the rich side for Chablis, but also very long for Village level wine, ending with more classic Chablis brightness and mineral textures. Very good for its level.
