Blind. Served third in what turns out to be a VCC vertical. A dense ruby to dark garnet. As with its siblings tonight the colour is dense and more opaque still with little of the vibrant translucence that can come with maturity. This feels the most harmonious of the three, the structural elements nicely countered by reasonably dense if not plush fruit. Some spice and middle age development. Lovely. Another good 02. I think what’s in the glass here is better on paper than the 01 alongside, but I prefer the slightly more quirky 01, even if it’s not quite as it should/could be. ****

This was pretty, quite sweet (perhaps thats due to the region as well), some ripe peach, medium finish. Nice wine, but I don't think this is worth 100 points.

Salmon coloured. Too young. Very concentrated, quite sweet fruit. Round, sweet with an elegant, bitter finish, orangepeel, ginger. Very refined indeed. 92+

Old school, classic , touch rustic in a way but all the classic elements are here and works very well. Rich, dry nuts and fruits, balsamic. Oxidative of course and touch sharp as all malvasias should be. 91

Frizzante - still there after an hour. Its very hard to assess the wine past this fault. I didn't note the issue with the previous bottle so maybe this is a one off. Underlying flavour is good. I just can't give a positive assessment though.

It was great to have tried Eponyme, as sad as the story behind it may be. Very pure, mineral, some citrus and yeasty notes, fresh acidity. Very cool wine.

Blind. Mid to full garnet with a hint of dense ruby at the core. When I had these a decade older I thought this might be 89. Compared to a bottle in late 2021 this is quite evolved and less vibrantly, joyously fruited. Fruit profile perhaps a little diffuse. A slightly curious lactic note not dissimilar to that on a recent 04 initially, then this seems to clear. What turns out to be the 02 alongside seems to be getting the love, and I can see why, but as this 01 opens and evolves in the glass I have a soft spot for the slightly redder fruit, silkier texture and brighter acidity. Not a top bottle of this though, however lovely. ****

We always say this is a sweet wines for people who don’t like sweet wines. And indeed with its firmer, sharper style keeps the sweetness in check and definitely carries the honey, waxy feel along very well. Impressively so and a beautiful wine. 92 and great value too

Blind. Mid ruby to a dense garnet. Classic pencil lead with a hint of tobacco suggesting left bank claret. Tannin to fruit profile and evolution makes me think of 86. So right bank and must therefore be VCC, but way off on ages. Turns out to be 99 which perhaps explains the dryer slightly recalcitrant tannin profile. A good 99 but I’m not sure the fruit will outlast the structure, so maybe one to enjoy now. ***1/2

Clear transparent brownish color. Mushroom, leather and tobacco on the nose. Silky with remanent spices on the palate. The old lady is a bit evanescent but still beautiful and well balanced.

Blind. Pale straw. Fragrantly floral nose, mineral but with a sense of subdued richness too. Strong familial resemblance to its partner, this one seemingly riper. Both served quite cold. As they warm and open over a couple of hours, the initially fatter 16 gains sharper line and the riper fruit notes transition to a more herbal minerality with juniper and pine sap providing real interest and visceral grip. This is lovely - so glad we saved some in glass and revisited. Suspect we’ve not quite given it long enough to shop at its best, but there’s less of a gap between this and the 15 than previously. ****

Similarnote to Thijs; elegant green notes, dark cherry, some cranberry, good acidity, didn't get much barnyard. Lovely elegant wine, drinking at its apogee now.

Blind. Palest straw. Lovely bright nose, minerally and saline. Served cold. As it warms, a more pronounced white fruit character and associated florality emerges. Initial thought was a riper vintage Chablis but we’re firmly in Puligny 1er cru territory now. A really interesting pairing with the 2016 where initially the 15 feels tauter and more classical but opens with air to show more richly. Little moves from a previous encounter a couple of years ago. ****

Overcooked Pinot Noir. Think "confit de fruits rouges". Tried a few bottles and gave the rest away. Some people like this style but I don't.

Fairly similar to my previous note, particularly on the ferrous quality, but the Southern Rhone comparisons aren't apt. The fruit is both more brooding, but also very celebratory, and has more of a cherry profile than I typically get from the Southern Rhone. Good layering and minerality here.

Colour is like a light red wine, almost, very dark pink. Soplenty of spice and fred fruit oin the nose, herbal, local, orangepeel here, strawberries with good acidity. This on is too young IMHO, needs a couple of years to relax and open. Shall see tomorrow.

Another bottle of 2018, and it is again so open. Very generous in its black fruit, olives, flowers. Smooth and velvety texture, less tannins than I would have expected based on previous bottles I've tried. A wine that always impresses, and there is no shame in drinking this now.

Delightful and invigorating. A lighter red with real charm and character. A blood orange and pomegrate halo around red berry fruits, with hints of camphor/acetone. Texturally very pleasing. Not crunchy and not particularly tannic, but a nice subtle mineral line down the middle. Incredibly versatile pairing options. Not one for the long term, but I suspect it will be fine over the next 2ish years.

Blind. Pale straw. Curious nose initially, quite cheesy and vinous. Suggests some weight, but the initial impression on the palate is far cleaner and steelier with a fine chalky texture and vibrant white fruit and cool florality. After being told it’s not BdB and is a grower, Vilmart CdC seems the obvious guess. A decade or so old. A little surprised to hear it’s 2012 - would have expected more richness on the palate perhaps, but compared to a bottle a couple of years ago this seems to have tightened a little and lost its youthful exuberance. Very good indeed. ****

Back on form here. These are quite custardy at the moment, having moved on from the lemon curd phase. Some citrus, but a real passion fruit/guava/pineapple finish with some interesting bitter herbs just tingling in the background. Still lots of energy, this is brilliant with pork.

The 2019 Gonon St. Joseph was more open than than I remembered it to be. It has the typical Gonon signature of olives, dark cherry, smokey meat, green herbs, some noticable tannins still. Needs a bit more time, but its getting there!

Drank this wine over a couple of nights. I wasn’t very happy after the first couple of mouthfuls, the wine had a real bite to it and it wasn’t enjoyable.
I decided to leave it for a couple of hours before drinking anymore and what a huge difference it made.
The wine was smooth with nice colour & depth.

Quite similar to last note some lemon, creaminess, blossom, pear, restrained use of oak. This opened up with a bit of time and showed some faint tropical fruit and more vanilla. this gained weight with some time and a higher temperature. It carries the 14% alcohol well.

From magnum via Coravin. Punchy and young but round at the same time and not difficult and for sure in no way austere. Rich dark fruits, good use of oak and just about getting into its secondary feel. Good wine, solid 90

New vintage of Jasmine Hirsch’s Bohan-Dillon (v21, 13% ABV), surely a pleasing, precise, seductive & quintessential expression of the Hirsch Way of making Pinot Noir. Medium ruby, fully translucent & shiny in the glass. It brims, yes brims, w typical Hirsch notes - wild raspberries, cherries, forest floor, peppery character - all in all superbly clean & advanced for such a young wine. Pleasantly sappy & soft palate, fine acidic structure, fruit-driven in a cool style, quite elegant yet linear, juicy, light finish! Ready to go!

Dry smooth and elegant, red fruité, softest kiss of modernity here and works well. Polished fruit, well approachable even this young and with a harmony from palate to nose. Good 91 and with a good decade in it.

The Jean-Marc Bouley Caillerets 2017 was quite closed, showing little fruit. The texture was nice and supple, but I missed some energy. It also didn’t really open up during the remainder of the evening. I had high hopes for this but it didn’t show the magic I was hoping for.

Made by the grand master or at least the first master of yeast fermentation in south of the 38th parallel this is made for the 5th (of 24) Jeolgi Seasons especially this arrived on our table with a blast of sensory feel. Umami, soy touch was distinct on the nose but the complexity here is what will stay with us , soft acidic, fruity, plum, light malty feel. Impressive and worthy of the hype.

No detailed notes taken. Expressive, ripe, dark-fruited fruit on the nose and palate. Some brighter red berries and floral notes as well as spices on the palate. Good freshness but not the most elegant structure. The Aux Boudots is one of the less seductive, less charming and silky cuvees from Maxime. Still a good wine, but with the quality at this winery in so many other cuvees, not one to chase.

We tasted five Les Fuees in two days. The concentrated but at the same time delicate and superbly delineated Mugnier 2017 (95pts) showcased the quality, finesse and elegance this domaine is able to produce, as well as 2017s appeal as an early drinking vintage. On its heels, Ghislaine Barthod’s 2022 (95pts) which showed incredibly purity and that typical to die for red fruit core, complemented by many other layers. Already superb, despite its youth. We tasted her 2010 too (94pts) which showed an even broader aromatic spectrum with pure, fresh fruit in all shapes and colors at the core and lots of minerality but at the same time still had noticeable tannins which have to mellow further. The Amiot Servelle 2020 (92pts) showed that it’s not a good time to open the 2020s yet, while it showed promising complexity, it was too powerful and structured to truly shine. The Felettig 2020 (86pts) was very dark and concentrated, definitely more Northern Rhone than a Chambolle, but maybe this might come around in 20 years.

A white wine blend of Chardonnay, Moscato and indigenous Girgentina grapes.

In the glass, pale yellow in color.
Engaging fruit aromas of apples, limes, and a floral hint of orange blossoms on the nose.
On the palate, it is very smooth with ripe citrus flavours and an elegant long finish.
A lovely white wine from Malta.
