I was amazed at how this wine out performed my expectations! Considering the age, this wine is nowhere near its peak in my opinion. I Believe you could expect another 5-10 years of peak drinking window with proper cellaring before any major downturn. The QPR of this wine was incredible. When young I was not too impressed, but patience was definitely rewarded.

Rich nose of very ripe cooked mulberries, blackberries, black cherry, some thyme and rosemary, roasted meat, earth/old wood and spice. Very full-bodied and very rich, this is incredibly mouth-filling and loaded with the same fruits and spices as the nose. Moderately tannic (of only medium quality) with just enough acidity, this is quite good and was very nice with Chinese. Nearing maturity, this should have a long life ahead of it. Drink now-2029+ 94

What a transformation this wine made in 10 years. Back then this was loaded, massive and insanely concentrated wine, fat and voluptuous. Now, it is till full body wine, but much more reserved and quite dry. It slimmed down and lost a bit of its youthful appeal. This will be interesting to further follow up. The best might yet to come.

Very nice berry aromas. Deep purple. Nice fruit on the palate. Definitely needed a bit of aeration to soften the tannins. Not sure I would age a lot longer.

Opened on New Years Eve to accompany beef bourguignon. Popped and poured, out of the bottle it was quiet, a nice sipper, but not what I expected. As it opened, however, it showed its stuff. Big wine, perfect with the beef.

At peak !! I love old Châteauneuf-du-Pape !! Perfect long cork, easily removed. Dark burgundy color with modest oxidation, clarity medium. Consumed over two days, lively fruit and acid on day one, softened, more brooding, and deep on day two. Aromas of blackberry, cherry, and Garrique. Flavors of rhubarb, black cherry, and rose hips with a hint of licorice with a long finish. A very balanced flavorful CDP. This is an age worthy wine with more years of life left, unfortunately this was my last bottle of this vintage in my cellar. Great fruit and a great winemaking effort by Xavier Vignon.

This needed a lot of air still to come into it’s own. I’d wait 3-5 years still to resolve some of the tannins or a long 6-8 hour decant. This was best for me on day 2.

A beauty! Complex herbs, complex minerals, bitter black licorice, cherries, prunes, blackberries, blueberries, smoke, meat, a touch of tar. Gentle tannins. Rich, flamboyant--long, long, long aftertaste. Probably at its peak--but no hurry. (My hunch is that this would be better with poultry, even spicy poultry, than with red meat.)

Drinking at its prime. Slow ox for 3 hours and then the fruit took on weight. Not complex, but soft tannins and finish. Black cherry fruit and very balanced from start to finish. Great QPR and something you can count on at this time. This is not a fruit bomb and it went well with salmon.

Again a super price-quality ratio! A very dark red color. Relucatant nose of dark berries. Very silky on the tongue, medium finish. Given the price: absolutely wonderful. But I must admit: in a blind tasting I wouldn’t have identified this wine as a C9P, I miss the garrigue notes. Compared with the 2007 I had some years ago, this is by far less complex. Don’t get me wrong: this is a wonderful wine, but not 96 points. Probably it’s over the peak, although I couldn’t find signs of overage.

Still some time left for properly stored bottles. Fully integrated, medium+ tannins, long finish, nice rounded black fruits on the palate more on the dried and preserved spectrum with herbaceous notes. Sad this is my last bottle but glad I held this last bottle back. Excellent.

Twenty months ago, I thought this was too one-dimensional, a fruitbomb with none of the unique characteristics I expect from a Southern Rhone wine. This bottle showed plenty of minerals, garrigue, and funkiness. The fruit and the structure have faded a little, but I like it better now. Fruit is still more-than-adequate, and it still has a nice, rich texture and a solid finish. Unfortunately, the time is drink up is probably just around the corner..

Maybe a bit over the hill? Some of the classic Rhone flavors but perhaps a bit more modern and spice forward. We drank this beside a 2010 Anonyme and everyone agreed that while these are cut from the same cloth, the 2010 had more nuance and was a bit more interesting. Long finish, minerals and spice, not really any of the violets that were on the nose of the 2010.

Dark brooding blood red with a squid ink like belly. Burnt tarry nose with liquorice and anise. Stewed fruit and Xmas cake follows the old world flavours. Still young at 12 years old. Spice and smoke on the finish, that has some old world cigar box.

This is a very good wine. Decanted for a few hours. Opaque ruby color, quite intense. Drank beside Xavier's lower end 2007 Châteauneuf-du-Pape and this is substantially better. Herbs, earth, minerals, still some red fruits. No need to hurry to drink this as it seems like it will last a long time, maybe still improve?

Blend of 25% Grenache, 25% Mourvedre, 25% Syrah, 25% Counoise.
96/100 Point Robert Parker.

Very well done wine. Lots of warm spice and pepper with kirsch, raspberry and other red fruit. A little bit of heat but not overwhelming for a warm and ripe vintage.

30 min decant. Impressive ripe fruit, full bodied. Mostly primary with little secondary elements. Dark and red fruit, showing some maturity in a good way, balanced acidity. Excellent overall and drinking well now. If tasted blind I would have guessed new world or Bordeaux due to lack of classical Rhone characteristics.

Darker and younger than expected. To be honest, I only opened because the bottle is larger than most and did not really fit in my wine fridge very well. That said, and with a nice match of pork tenderloin with a garlic wine mustard sauce, this was pretty nice. For sure more international in style, with ripe fruit and not much complexity. Very well balanced with juicy acidity and a medium tannin finish. This seems like it could have lasted a decent while longer but was drinking very nicely. Nowhere near 96 points (per Parker) in my book - more like a solid 91/92. Shade higher with some potential - easy another 5 years on this.

Soft texture. Black fruit (blackberry or cassis) predominant mixed with red fruit. Picked up a little leather and subtle Asian spice or perhaps cinnamon. Didn’t pick up any garigue. Drinking very well now, but probably has a few more years of life left.

Nice wine. No signs of age. Pretty nose - berries with a hint of spices. Almost exclusively berries on the palate. Medium body with a solid finish. In great shape with plenty of structure and will probably hold up for another year or two. In a blind tasting, I would never have guessed what it is or where it's from - no minerals, no herbs, and no garrigue. Also, assuming there's some syrah in it, no grilled meat or baconfat. As a generic red wine, it merits a 91 or 92, but the score was lowered because of the absence of "Rhoney" characteristics.

Traditional herb and garrigue on the nose. Old mouth feel and not too ripe. Doesn’t need, nor have the stuffing, to age much more. Lovely now and great with a tomato sauce pasta.

Almost 2 years since my previous bottle of this vintage. I like it, but it doesn't really taste like most CdP's I've had. I still don't see WA's 96 point rating.

I enjoyed this wine much more than other recent folks, perhaps because this really isn't a traditional Rhone and I don't love traditional Rhones? In any case, a few hours in the decanter smooth out the strong notes and make a more refined and integrated (if perhaps a bit less interesting) wine than at first pour. Some of the other notes are pretty spot on, mature berries, spice, and minerals, with pretty good layers.

Ten year CdP and Bordeaux retro tasting (with ringers). Hosted by Grinner.
CdP Flight Two - Wine Two:
Ripe! The wine imparts a sense of less than full fermentation, which may be the element that 'liteagilis' described as 'boozy'. Whatever the case, that off-putting note is typical of the house style, which made the wine easy to identify in a blind tasting.

Boozy prune juice. Sweet fruited and overripe. Broad and round. Little to no charm. Had two sips. Waited. Had two more. Not sure these will ever be more than terrible.

Very big, but not all that great. Although this is a well made wine (whose bottle insists on being too big for most cellar racks), it is not my style. No finesse or elegance like a Margaux here, but rather brute force and alcohol. Not one to buy again

Drank at busy dinner party, so no formal tasting note.
The wine seems to a classic CDP at this point with lots of red and black fruits, garrigue , cinnamon and spice. Also they don't seem to have been shy with the oak.
Nice mouthfeel with a medium plus finish.
Does seem to lack the complexity of some of the better examples of the vintage?
Drink now or keep another decade in a cold cellar.

Solid wine in a good place with some years to spare. Nice expression of CnP at the price point: lingering sawdust on the palette at opening with a lovely core of wild blackberry - not saturated with fruit but pleasantly reserved and well integrated. Structurally sound and a joy from first glass to last!

First taste POP was enlightening - much bigger than I was expecting and tight as a sailor's knot. So I immediately decanted which started the wine opening up. The first glass showed very big flavors of sour cherry and red raspberry and nice integration with a very dry middle and a soft but tight tannin on the end. The final glass validated to everyone I should have decanted the wine at least an hour earlier. Flavors were the same but the whole integration had improved even more...The dry fruit flavors danced in your mouth and flowed right into the dry but smooth tannin.
Super wine and good value. This wine should drink wonderfully at least 10 years.

The first impression is rather massive and full of dark cherry, strawberry, garrigue, dark chocolate, orange zest and the classical Asian spice box. This certainly is a very nice CndP... The complexity is actually quite marvellous. There is no brett at all and there is enough structure and texture to have this effort age for another decade and more. Palate reveals the producer typical freshness and rather high acidity, which indeed makes this wine a lovely food companion. With a 50+ second length on the finish this is certainly one of those lovely efforts from this appellation.

This wine is turning into every thing I would hope for in a CdP of this winemaker. Drinks way above the investment, to me anyhow. Really fragrant nose and rich fruit on the palate. Had it with Carne Asada, Hatch chili salsa and guac. Hurt so good! This wine hung in there too!

Beautiful wine. Full bodied with sweet red rasberry and slight cherry, barnyard and leather. Balanced and enough tannins to last for 5 plus year. The best news is that the wine is open with spice that grows on you with intrigue. The spice is not heat, but the spice is growing on me big time after dinner. Big spice now and seems like a high alcohol content. I enjoyed it with the filet during dinner. Seems too big to sip after dinner without food. Keep the cheese going and pace yourself. I had 1/2 bottle.

Coravin used to try wine with a baked chicken casserole dish with olives and Morocco spices. Wine of course held its own. Big and full bodied after an hour in the glass. Inky and dark black fruits. Plumb, blackberry and expresso. There was also a bit of cherry cola in the finish. The tannins are strong and the wine is still on fire. Lots of spice and long finish. I would consider trying another glass in two years.

Blacker than night - everything about the wine is dark, which has its appeal. Brambly wild raspberry nose, inky black appearance with dark red around the rim. Very lush in the mouth but with quick-acting fine tannins that are still aggressive, though not overbearing. Black coffee/espresso is the dominant flavor on the lengthy finish. A good cold-weather wine to drink during an early spring Montana snowstorm.

Still a medium dark violet color. Very ripe brambles and spice in the nose. More brambles on the palate. Excellent texture for a CdP, with some bright acidity and high quality tannin. This was fine. nothing notable.. very closed nose, and closed on the palate at opening.. did not open up much over 90 minutes... it was pretty non descript. Very odd given the notes from other folks on cellar tracker.
Wine was over the top fruity and not at all what I have experienced with other bottles of Anonyme. Dumped out half the bottle after letting it sit for 24 hours. Never evolved and had no subtlety or structure. It was smooth, but that's the best thing I can say about it. Have a couple others and some 2010s and hopefully those will be be better.

Clear, bright garnet in the glass. Nose of raw meat, dirt and licorice. Lots of pepper, deep red fruit and a little coffee. Medium acid with nice balance. Long finish with moderate heat. Not over the top. But, feels like it is holding back a bit. Should evolve over the next 5-10 years.

The 2009 is not as fleshy and nose saturating as the 2007, but I think I may like this a little better. It still is a big, powerful wine, but has a more masculine intrigue with a tad more acid kick on the entry that builds in richness of flavor as the extremely long finish smolders on and on.

A lovely effort from Xavier Vignon, the 2009 Cuvée Anonyme is totally open for business tonight. Tannins are silky and fine tuned signalling the wine is clearly approachable. All components speak with one harmonious voice. Balance, integration and power being the three keywords here. The nose expresses dark mature fruits and heavy duty morellos, but also a rather forward creamy vanilla tone. This wine drinks perfectly now but will last for many years in the cellar.

Dark fruits that opened up on day#2. I cannot appreciate it on day#1, after only 30 minutes of decanting. Good acidity. Alcohol noticeable at warmer temperature. Enough fine tannins to keep it for another few years; but I agree with so many of the CT reviews - it does not have firm legs to stand on for "further evolution" (improvement). Am I waiting for a miracle here? I will consume my remaining bottles soon.

Notes after 6 hours open in bottle. Dark, inky ruby color with very slow and lightly stained legs. Heavy amount of sediment. I like the floral aspect of the aroma, which only appeared after a few hours of air. There were early green pepper notes that faded away with time in the glass. The mouthfeel is smooth and full, holding firm with some grainy tannins. The fruit still seems a bit compacted but even if it stretches out in future, I'm not sure there will be enough material, long term, to give it a higher score. The breadth of the blend is expressed in a moderately complex profile, though it would need richer density to hit the excellent mark, imb. But at this price it delivers in fine fashion. I thought the alcohol was nicely in check so I was surprised to see 14.5% listed on the label. I think they might have overpaid their taxes ;) 4+12+16+8= 90
Distinctive CdP Grenache on the nose, some cherry, strawberry, beef blood, smoke, cream, bright acidity and fine tannins through the finish. It's still young but drinkable now. Really interesting wine with so many different (legal) varietals in the mixture. I don't see the WA score, but it's quite good, however it's not a terribly good value at 50 bones.

Bought several bottles so decided to see where this was at age wise. I think it's still young and needs time to mellow. There was a bit of harshness in the finish. You could drink now but it would need something like pizza or a red sauce to balance on the tongue. I will give these a few more years before I try again.

Tuesday Night Double Blind $50+ (Bin 75): Dark core with garnet rim; round nose, raspberry, linzer torte, garrigue, subtle, plump, round, sexy and open, good depth, tea, vanilla, slight fig; palate is not as open, a certain firmness to the tannin with rounded edges, a bitter green note with lots of raspberry, meaty, chewy; needs time.

Had this with my wine group at Ducks Eatery in NYC. Strange and eclectic menu, and mix of New Orleans and Asian cooking. This showed really well, standing up to the smokey flavors that the restaurant uses. A strange blend of CDP, sometimes it doesn't sit right with me, but this bottle was really good. Nice long finish, and a little sryup-y from the glycerin.

This is one of my favorite producers and this wine doesn't disappoint. It is only now starting to be enjoyable. A great CNDP with big black fruit, that is now just starting to show some balance. This will be a very enjoyable wine for years to come now that it is 6 years old and in its youth.

Weakest wine of the night for me. Just lacking that depth and body for me. Still a very good wine but I can't figure out why some of the wine reviewers rated it so high. I've had it multiple times but I just don't get it. I would buy so many other wines for the price.
There have been mixed reviews, but I really like this wine. As I reviewed earlier, a little more like a California wine, but not entirely. A nice blend of styles in this wine.

We couldn't find the missing 5-6 points that the pros claim to be hiding somewhere in this btl. Nevertheless a very fine CdP.
Dark red. Nose is a full throttle Grenache with emphasis on the raspberries. Also some darker matter. Palate is well structured and not at all as sweetly voluminous as I had come to expect. Much too young today. Final btl (of a measly two) circa 2022 and I'll be expecting a much more interesting and talkative wine. I cooked, with KG.
Wonderful wine. Decanted and let rest for about two hours. Initial tasting revealed a slightly closed dark fruit and spice. After another two hours the real beauty of the wine came out. Deep red fruits, spice, smoke, earth, and more. Nice nose too. Deep garnet.

The nose seemed more northern than southern Rhone, showing dark berry fruit with peppery spice, chalk dust, animal musk and hints of herbs. After time in the decanter the body gained a silky richness, which wasn't there upon first opening. Notes of dark fruit, cherry, sweet spice, plum and orange peel seemed to saturate the senses and lasted throughout the finish.
This is a wine which requires patience to show its real quality, as it showed very poorly over the first 1 1/2 hours

This is a well made wine with years to go. Balanced and maybe will be better in a few years but can be enjoyed now. Lacks the glyceron and depth of fruit of better wines. Might develop Tertiary flavors but I think Parker is way off with the 96. Maybe 91.

I'm not arguing with the high ratings: stellar nose, rich mid palate, long finish. Let half the bottle sit at room temp overnight w cork and it opened up, mellowed and tasted even richer... Suggests cellaring will be rewarded.
Tuesday Night $20-$40 Double Blind (Bin 75): Darker reddish violet with paler rim; brulee, modern, sweet berry, charred vanilla, red apple skin, hint of forest floor; very ripe palate, charry finish, fresh berry, meaty, red clay, Luden's cough drop; still quite young but already very complex- just needs to gain some harmony.

Decanted for about one hour -- could use more -- and not much for me on the nose, but what an appealing flavor. Dark fruits, with just a hint of sweetness, offset almost immediately by a bit of tar and earth -- actually a very nice combination, and then a good finish that resolves the two flavors very agreeably. It has the makings of many more years, but is very drinkable now. RP may be off the mark with his high rating, but this is an exceptionally good wine. I feel sorry for those CT raters who had a bad bottle or who did not like it. It seems to me an admirable example of Xavier at this best.

I don't have a similar palate for most wines as Robert Parker, but this wine is easily a 94+!
The nose just lures you in with dark fruit and subtle menthol notes. The mid palate lasts forever, while the finish is one minute plus. A beautiful effort, will purchase more and look to create future verticals.

You know RP gave this a pretty high score and I just don't get it. It not a big heavy CDP like a pegau but more medium to medium heavy bodied. I could see through the wine which is not typically what I like because I do enjoy them dense and chewy. The tannins were medium in nature and not nearly as thick and chewy as I would want a 2009 to be. The finish was decent but for a wine of the caliber and price point I was a bit disappointed.

Very primary, nearly black in color, with a powerful nose of sweet blueberries, chocolate, licorice, garrigue and blackberry pastille candies. As richly flavored as the nose leads you to expect, thick and palate-coating, with very ripe fruit balanced by modest acidity, rich tannins, long finish. Quite impressive with a good potential for near-term aging. I would drink this at age 2-4 but might be careful about extended cellaring; the wines reminds me strongly of other wines I've enjoyed young that became unstable by age 6-8. So this could be wonderful at age 12, but I might not wait that long. It should be a stunner in the time period around 2016.

Very dark garnet color, almost black. Quiet nose. Big on the palate, with pepper and spice, and some strawberries (??!). Structure masks the relatively high alcohol well. This seems like it is evolving nicely with room for significant further development.

Double decanted, consumed over two days. On day one the wine seemed rather closed, was unbalanced and very alcoholic. It hence came as a surprise that the wine found its balance and opened-up over night. On day two the wine offered violet, red and dark berries, herbs, spices and coffee on the nose. On the palate the wine then showed red and dark berries (mainly dark), blackberry, herbs, spices, coffee, cocoa and some mineral notes, paired with medium-level acidity, medium-level fine, ripe tannin and well-integrated oak. Although the wine contained equal parts of Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre and other varieties, the wine’s profile seemed Syrah-dominated. It needs time, but might turn out well. Start drinking from 2016. 90+

It is an odd, disjointed wine right now, even with significant air. Over time, it will go from being beefy syrah to everything pointing back to a grenache based wine, but never integrating it all together. It is one of those wines that is never going to get there or will blow us all away 5-7 years from now, but I lean towards it being a good wine that won't grow up to be great (noting that I thought differently at initial taste (seemingly as did Parker, though I never thought 96, but I digress).

Even if I like this wine I expected more. The nose and taste were a bit weak. I have some bottles left and will drink them within the coming year cause I cannot see how it will improve.
Camphor on the nose; cherry, dark fruit, and pepper on the palate, with a somewhat oily mouthfeel on the medium finish. Although it isn't flabby, it leans that direction. As with the previous bottle, I was hoping for more.

Showing well already, but you can tell that this would be so much better after another five years in bottle. It has it all, but right now there is a bit of firmness. This has a really extended and multidimensional palate profile. Looking forward to trying again in a few years.

Camphor and a touch of barnyard on the nose; black fruit and white pepper on the palate. Although this is a well-made wine, it lacks the acidity and complexity that would bring it to the level that I was hoping for. I expect more from Chateauneuf.

I took the advice of my fellow Cellar Trackers and decanted this for three hours. I was rewarded for my patience. Served with grilled lamb. The wine paired perfectly and was a huge hit. Mild tannins. Long finish. Complex with layers of dark red fruit and a hint of oak. Wonderful.
Notes consistent with others -- out of the gate, it appeared more like a new world syrah than a CdP. With time, it started to open up and with some goat cheese even more -- still not tasting like a CdP (lack of true garrique profile) but became enjoyable.
Dense purple to the rim; ripe dark fruit with an orangey note, acid is strong at the point; needs time to grow into itself, looking forward to it when it does.

Very tight at present...let's see what happens in a couple of years. With such high ratings from the pros, I hope it gets significantly better because this wasn't overly complex and just tasted like a new world fruit bomb without any depth or character.

Big and lush. Opened up expansively. Long finish with elegant balance of tanning (that should fade nicely) and acid. A lovely wine on the bigger side. PDQ93+

It seems that each vintage goes from strength to strength with this fatter, rounder, and richer Cuvée Anonyme 2009. A boosted version of the 2007, it’s a Chateauneuf du Pape on steroids -which may be disruptive to some, not to me for sure!. 95 points

Very smooth and rounded CDP that was a good complement to the meal and we continued to drink for a couple of hours and it was even better after it had stood as it become more subtle. This is not a blow your head off high alcohol wine like many CDP's it is probably only 13% max.

Decanted for several hours and enjoyed with grilled dry rubbed chicken. Raspberry, vanilla (I assume this saw new oak?), garrigue & plum on nose. Similar flavor profile to palate. Medium+body, medium acids & silky on the palate with a long finish. 92-93 range. I left 1 glass in the bottle and I'm enjoying on the 4th night (in kitchen but under vacu-vin). Given how this wine improved with air (and its still going strong on night 4) I would hold to 2015+ or decant for 4-6 hours. Don't get a "96" for this wine today but score has room to improve with time. Honestly, given the rating (CT was more accurate) from the prosI was a little dissapointed but if tasted blind (this was not) its clearly a nice 2009 CDP but don't PNP as you will be dissapointed.
Black plums and blackberries are on the nose with a touch of smoke, slate, and iron. The palate shows dark fruit with a hint of earthiness and is not overly tannic. It has a smooth medium finish.

Sometimes you're disappointed when you purchase highly rated wines like this, and they don't live-up to the ratings. Not this one. Terrific wine. More like a California wine than a traditional Rhone. Fruit is more forward, but still nicely balanced. What a treat.

The label was torn so I had to open the bottle. It was almost akin to tasting a barrell sample, because while I think many of the pieces are there to make a compelling CdP (in the modern style), they are obscured right now by the abundent, almost jammy fruit, so. Even if you like drinking CdP young, wait, as I think it will prove to be much better and more interesting and a good QPR to boot. 25% Grenache, 25% Mourvèdre, 25% Syrah, 25 % Andere Trauben.

Very anonyme, like the name suggests.. Incredibly boring smell, completely closed down and very tight even after decanting 2 hours - Taste is a little lighter than you'd expect from a chateauneuf, but still burns with it's alcohol. Parker 96 pts!!??
Although this was probably opened too early, I liked it. A balanced contrast to much of the high-alcohol, jammy wines we've encountered of late. Dark in the glass, spicy, some tannins, long finish. We have two other bottles that we will hold; eager to see how this wine changes over time.

Definitely needs time. Despite a long decant, this was still tight, and not as approachable young as Parker had me believe. But shows potential. I think 4 or 5 years of bottle age before I try again.

Blend of 25% Grenache, 25% Mourvedre, 25% Syrah, 25% Counoise.
96/100 Point Robert Parker.

The wine seems to a classic CDP at this point with lots of red and black fruits, garrigue , cinnamon and spice. Also they don't seem to have been shy with the oak.

Very youthful, this is undoubtedly a fine specimen of CdP and very well-made, but I have lost my taste for these wines. 92 df 8.8

95 Point Wines as rated by the Wine Advocate (Lincoln Squre Steaks, Amsterdam Ave, New York City): Its been 2 and half years since my last bottle of this vintage, and it is still tasting very young. Maybe my cellar is too cold? We probably should have decanted it, as it improved over the course of the dinner. But even p'n p, it was still tasty.

Outstanding. Best after about 1 hour of air.

Drank way too soon and only bought 1 bottle. Guess I'll look the wine up before just grabbing and opening

This was probably drank too early, not worth $40 for my taste, but I should have waited 5 years or more

Definitely needs time. Despite a long decant, this was still tight, and not as approachable young as Parker had me believe. But shows potential. I think 4 or 5 years of bottle age before I try again.

Dense. Did not find this approachable at all (even on the second day). Obviously has some bones, but time will tell how good. Will try again in several years.
