Caramel color, which surprised me for a Sauternes of this age. However, quite delicious with apricot and candied flavor. Long finish. Quite enjoyable. Was perfect end to a night that included a '96 Calon Segur, a '96 Dominus and a '11 Patrick Puize Tonnere.

Deep golden color to it. Orange / peach / apricot / white flower? (Is that a thing?) on the nose. Rich and thin at the same time. Rich for wine, somewhat thin for Sauternes. Still very tasty, though. Not over-ripe and very easy to drink. Med+ length finish. Really solid but could be better. That being said, for the price this was great.

Not as good as I hoped it would be. '03 was meant to be a good year for Sauternes, and maybe it was, but I found this bottle to be a bit "un-delicate" in the sense that it was not that smooth or balanced. A bit harsh (in a Sauternes sort of way). Not bad by any stretch. Rich color, deep flavors, but a bit too string. I apologize to those who prefer more specific descriptors -- they are not in my vocabulary. No pain drinking this, just not as much as pleasure as I hoped.

Well aged, very funk and mineral driven and succulent! Great acidity to give it lots of lift. I was quite surprised...Not thin at all, slightly hollow, but the acid makes up for it. To me there is nothing more disappointing than a Sauternes without bright acidity, and this one definitely had it...

Monthly Tasting Group EEE #035; A mixed set of white, red and sweet (@ My place): Just limited notes. Beautiful and elegant bouquet with apricots. On the palate there is the usual orange peel and apricots. Just a little botrytis and ok acidity. Light to medium bodied and at this moment lacking a bit in complexity. This wine is complicated, but somehow not my cup of tea. It has an aroma of honey, mango, nail washing liquid and some tropical fruit. This wine has a good balance between acidity and sweetness. It also has a first palate of minerality, followed by a second palate and aftertaste of bitter nuttiness. However, i feel the bitter nuttiness taste is too strong, +5+11+16+7=89pts

Upon pulling this bottle from the cellar I was alarmed at its appearance. Light gold it was no longer; it had darkened considerably and was fully amber now. Fearing that oxidation had rendered my patience folly, I approached with trepidation. Indeed it seemed to have some vague Madeira-like qualities, skewing slightly toward toffee though thankfully not raisin. Overall, a delicious Sauternes it remained. Delightfully viscous with a nose of petrol and almond, these characteristics carry forward to the palate and mix with orange, toffee and Turkish apricot. Nicely layered. The finish is pure, sumptuous almond paste. Acidity still very much intact, this seems ready to go for a while longer despite the darkening color. Could just be my less-than-ideal cellar conditions. A treat!

Coming into maturity, with some secondary flavors emerging. What it lacks in elegance it makes up for with spicy intensity. Flavors fuse into a fairly tight package of caramel, dried apricot, forest honey, Seville orange, and pumpkin spice. Rather low toned, with not much of that unique, otherworldly Sauternes complexity, but who's complaining at this price point.

Light-medium amber in colour. Bright apricots, light honey, citrusy fruits, and some of the alcohol on the nose. Honeyed apricots and peaches along with some almonds on the palate; some botyrized after taste as well; not that concentrated though it does have good legs. Finish is medium and am happy to have gotten this at a good price. Me thinks this is good to drink as it is right now.

Deep amber hue. Thick unctuos nose of marmalade, honey and sweet raisens. Palate is voluminous, oily and full of deep orange peel, honey and toffee apple. Medium + finish, with good acidity, although not super fresh. Good balance, but maybe not for the long term. Drink in the next 5yrs

Appearance: Bright and clear, medium intensity amber colour, with watery rims and legs. Nose: Clean, with medium (+) intensity and developing aromas of raisin, honey, apricot, oak, orange marmalade, cinnamon and caramel. Palate: Sweet, with medium (+) acidity and medium (+) alcohol. Full body, the wine has a medium (+) intensity flavors of apricot, honey, walnut, orange marmalade and raisin. Medium (+) length. Conclusion: Very good quality Sauternes with a good balance of acidity and sweetness, exhibiting a freshness which integrated well and making the wine not cloying. A fairly intense nose showing good complexity, the palate is weaker with simpler though still of fair intensity. The wine finishes with a good length, it is ready to drink now but can benefit from further ageing of another 8-10 years.

Bought 5 years ago and I've watched it change from light gold to a beautiful medium amber. Notes after being open for 4 days. Still a baby, complexity-wise, but I wonder if there's really enough acidity to make it worth the long haul. I'm finding it pretty flabby and food didn't seem to help, which I think is a sign of a good sweet wine. Still a very good value (there's a reason current hammer is about $24) and it is very yummy, but will not give one that "wow" Sauterne effect, either. 5+11+16+7 = 89

Rich golden colour. Nose of baked apple, hint of butter, very slight tropical citrus. On the palate really made me think of a liquified butter tart: little bit of sweet sultana raison, baked apple, pie crust, rum, some butter, little spice. Pretty decent acidity, nice finish but medium-. Big oily rich mouthfeel. Went with the deserts very well. Good value for the money but not the most complex Sauternes I've had.

Beautiful golden color. Delicious nose of honey, apricot, peaches. (Much more expressive than 375 mL I consumed about two years ago.) Really intense on the palate with enough acidity to balance the sweetness. Good finish. At $32 for a 750 mL it's an excellent QPR for Sauternes.

As far as Sauternes go, this was not one of the better ones I've had. Not crisp enough and not enough acid for my taste. Also, the complexity of flavor wasn't quite there. Possibly didn't drink at a cold enough temperature (~55-60F). Not bad for the price, but not remarkable.

Tasting Group Dinner - Bordeaux at Heidi's (Heidi's, Minneapolis): Concentrated flavors of tropical fruit and honey. This is intense yet well balanced, with 2001-like supporting acidity, and the style is more racy than plump/opulent. Long finish. I really liked this.

Good, but I was disappointed based on previous experience. While this had rich apricot, nut and spice flavors I enjoy, it lacked the acidity to balance the richness. I seem to recall this acidity when I tasted upon release. Good wine and good value, but lacks the acid component that I enjoy.

We drank 8 bottles of this wine as I sponsored the desert wine for a tasting done in Nashville TN. The wine came directly out of OWC and was bright yellow. Condition excellent. The bouquet was fresh and spicey. First impression was spicy apples and honeyed apricot. As we drank this further the finish improved and showed more complexity. There was vanilla, mollases and candied melon appreciable. Much better Saunternes than I thought. Far better than any other D'arche I have ever tasted.

$20/.375L. My first Sauternes. A noticeable smokiness in the nose that some tasters perceived as tuna-like. Notes of pineapple and honey. Distinct peach in the moderately long finish. I liked this, but wouldn't pay $20 to try it again.

Tasted at a retailer tasting. Pale, light yellow in color. Nose showed notes of peach and apricot. Nice viscosity on the palate, showing peach pit, but seemed to be lacking acidity to make this seem well balanced. Medium finish. OK, but you can probably find much better examples of Sauternes at close to the same price.

Nice bottle of sauternes but lacking some depth and acidity. A tad flabby on the mid palate but still enjoyable. Nice nose of apricots, peaches, creme brule and sweet honey. Palate is enjoyable and toasty but not meant for the long haul.

Smooth and delicious. Tasted apples on opening. Fruity, but not thick. This coated my mouth.

Honeyed florality on the nose with ripe pineapple and melon notes.
Sweet and fullbodied palatal feel with adequate acidity. Ripe fruit, beeswax and slight nutty notes. Citrus zest in the mid-length aftertaste.
Pretty nice, if nothing extraordinary.

Good, but I was disappointed based on previous experience. While this had rich apricot, nut and spice flavors I enjoy, it lacked the acidity to balance the richness. I seem to recall this acidity when I tasted upon release. Good wine and good value, but lacks the acid component that I enjoy.

Very nice for the price of 18 €. Balanced mix of honey and fruit and some bothrytis. Some defining acidity would be nice, but works well with a variety of cheeses.

Nice wine, lacks tang/acidity that would have made it pair better with a lemon-cheesecake dessert.

Fairly solid Sauternes for 15 bucks a split. Nose of honeysuckle with flavors of dried pineapple, apricot and honey. Full bodied and recommended.

$20/.375L. My first Sauternes. A noticeable smokiness in the nose that some tasters perceived as tuna-like. Notes of pineapple and honey. Distinct peach in the moderately long finish. I liked this, but wouldn't pay $20 to try it again.

Not too much nose, but great mouthfeel and complex palate. Long finish. Enough acidity to wake up a fatigued palate.

Had out of a 375ml. Nose of citrus and honey. Not at all cloying on the palate with grapefruit, leechee nuts and slight almond on the palate. It reminds me of some of the 2nd tier sauternes of 01' which are still very good. For the price very good

Drank it when Baby Anna was born. Beautiful sweet, honeysuckle nose, walnuts, orange, and melon on the palate, with a moderate finish. Sweet, and young.

Wow I can't believe I just started with Sauternes. What a wonderful wine. This was a value @ $20 and just great all around. Thick/rich mouthfeel and the sweetness is there but does not overpower you. Just a great way to end a meal.
