Bright nose with fruity notes, peach, minerals, and quite little autolytic character. Good acidity on the palate with orange flavors, lemon, citrus zest, herbs, and a bit of stone fruit. Good finish. Very nice wine but it suffered significantly from being poured next to the 2014 Ursules which was on a completely different level. This had more fruit but overall it was just less interesting.

Zuni Cafe Chicken Night (Brad's Place, St. Paul, MN): Light gold color. Drank a couple glasses over an hour plus. Pop and pour. Same disg info as prev btl. and similar notes. Final btl, but given what these sell for now, I had a hard time popping this. Oh well, excellent, but I'm sad to be priced out (which means, emphatically not $200+/btl excellent).

A night at the office (RL Restaurant, Chicago IL): The nose is open-knit and highly expressive with deep tones of warm dough, red apples, fresh bakery notes, lemon peel, red berries, baking spices, pears, and some brioche. This leans more autolytic than the 16 Les Ursules did, but it is also in full harmony on the nose. The Medium bodied feel is silky and satin with integrated, high acidity. This is drinking in a beautiful spot. There is a lot to love as it shows off all sorts of elegance and refinement with a delicious undercurrent of autolytic notes.

V 2014, disgorged 2016. The oldest Val Vilaine I've had. Excellent intensity and depth, and beginning to show some evolution to the otherwise quite primary palate. Much more brioche and cream than you see in the fresher bottles. Good but not revelatory. Wish I had waited longer.

A bit lost in the lineup, so no detailed notes. As usual with CeddyB, it was pleasant, but not the most inspiring bottle. Felt it was simple and enjoyable (I remember it being pretty lean), but certainly not worth any sort of secondary cost or special pursuit. I'd put this around $60-70 max.

Noticeably less vigorous mousse, but not in a way that is unexpected, give the lower pressure house style. Boldly flavored with a mix of slightly baked orchard fruit and, citrus and white raspberry. Light spices and brioche add a warmer feel that rounds out the wine. Delicious now, but shows no sign of slowing down, although I have some concern about the mousse with extended aging. That said, I had an '08 a couple years back and it was pretty spectacular.

I got to sit and enjoy these two bottles two nights in a row. I was struck by the delicious fruit. It was white bitter peach and lemon, with an ever-so-slight hint of rosé fruit, like the edge of strawberry. It was generous in the mouth and impressed on the swallow. Frank Murry says it better than I when he calls a slight hint of honey on the backside. It is really terrific Champagne!

2019 Suntacular--Champagne Tasting to raise money for Laura's House: Disgorged 04/2016. This one struck me for the balance and overall pleasure that it provides. Floral aromatic, with a cool purity and evenness that makes it hard to put down. Finishes with a touch of honey, reminding me some of the Marguet wines. Terrific.
Wonderful. Last btl a little over 2 yrs ago. Lovely nose with some toast, a touch of nuttiness, clean apple, pie crust...beautiful aromatics. This really shines on the palate. With fond memories of the '13 lurking in my head, I popped this one last night. It isn't quite at the heights of the '13 right now, it's edgier, leaner at the moment. Still, terrific minerality, acidity, and crisp white fruit with rounder bready notes. These wines walk a terrific balance of creamy texture and wiry edge. This will be even better in a few years. Love the stuff.

This wine always delivers. I've been a little let down lately by some of the other wines in Bouchard's range, not because they aren't good, but because with a higher price-point comes higher expectations, and they haven't met them. I'm pretty sure I enjoy the Val Vilaine the most, not just for its relative value but on an absolute basis. The '14 is a little leaner than the '13 and '12 but none the worse for it. It is, as always, a very energetic wine wrapped around a solid core of fruit.

Un champagne crispy avec un petit goût de croustade de pomme, mineral. Les bulles sont fines et peu abondantes.Un bon champagne d'apéro à un prix décent. 90-91 (63$)
Pure, clean, balanced, and superbly focused without being too linear or biting in any way. Beautiful yellow citrus and white stone fruit, subtle pear, and elegant minerality. Laser-like precision, but maintaining a sense of seamless body throughout the entire delivery of flavors. Small bb bubbles add the perfect amount of effervescence without masking the flavors.
Medium in its complexity, but making up for it in spades with its hyper focused and chiseled delivery. Sans dosage seemingly allows for the elegance of the minerality and crisp, clean fruit flavors to come through with total finesse. A decent QPR given the quality exhibited overall. I was indeed a fan of this wine.
Served slightly chilled. Decanted for 30 minutes, per Mon. Bouchard's instruction. Marvelous wine, pale golden straw color. Nose of lemon and toast. Creamy light mousse and mothfeel. Granny smith apple peel, brioche, flinty. Profound champagne at a reasonable price point. Enjoyed tremendously.

As a big fan of the "Inflorescence" bottling (which is now prohibitively expensive) I was hoping this would offer something similar, and indeed it does, if significantly less concentrated (or at least this particular bottle is, in this particular vintage). Not nearly as burgundian, though it's there for a fleeting moment, and higher acid. I would hope this would gain more character in time, but at its current price, I shan't find out.

Definitely too young in my opinion. Precise, lots of purity, zingy green apple character, mineral. Enjoyable, but I'm most definitely waiting a few years before opening another. I think this could be great with some age on it.
Somewhat thin and acid driven. Green apple, white grapefruit. Crisp finish. Nice, but paled in comparison next to the Dom and does not show as much sense of place as I expect form Champagne.

Yet another bottle from one of my favorite Champagne producers of recent times. Despite the relatively youth, the champagne pours a somewhat nutty golden color with fine streams of bubbles. On the nose, the Pinot Noir aroma is immediately apparent. This oxidative bouquet is so powerful and beautiful at the same time, yielding plenty of stone fruits, citrus zest, toasty brioche, honeyed nuts, sugarcane and a tad of butter and minerals. On the palate, the wine is viscous and rounded with a distinct mineral backbone. It is vibrant and expressive. The palate reflects the nose and yields the same oxidative and fruity profile as well, demonstrating buttered bread, lemon curd and peaches. The rounded finish is of particular mention as it boasts smoky kick. This is a big wine and very much a well-crafted effort. In fact, I am quite surprised by the power of it despite the relative youth. Cellaring is good. But drinking very well now.

Always a lovely bottle of wine, and this one was no exception. Still my favorite "little black dress" of a champagne, we had this on Christmas Eve as we decorated the tree. Good with food, on its own--whenever, wherever.

Still has the earthiness but the reduction is less prominent. Really delicious and has plenty of future

Fresh and precise, with great purity of fruit. Classic Pinot profile along with plenty of zesty brioche. Persistence in spades.

Flott fruktig og dig nese. Fin munnfølelse, men mangler en del på konsentrasjonen og finishen. Ungt selvfølgelig, men føler dette er litt skuff. 88+

This is benchmark stuff. Such an incredibly purity of fruit with a freshness and focus that you don't often find in a Champagne at this price point. This is a buy every year.

disgorged 4/14. this was awesome. a little reductive, but full throttle fruit poised with perfect supporting structure. some more time in bottle should sort out the reduction, but I really like it now

Un Champagne assez simple mais délicieux, classique avec une belle maturité et tendreté.

Fantastic bottle of bubbly. Loved the yeasty and fruity bouquet. Fantastic depth and complexity on the palate with a superb finish. At $65, a great bargain.

Wines & Steak in Toronto (Le Select Bistro, Toronto, Canada): Light and simple and a nice palette cleanser before we tackled the reds of the evening. Prob a bit overshadowed by the White Bordeaux which was much more powerful.
