I was concerned opening this bottle after seeing 2 "flawed bottle" reviews. Luckily my bottle was perfect. Fruit has subsided but still a very enjoyable bottle of wine.

At 12 years of age one would expect this Chianti to be at full maturity but there’s no doubt this still has some evolution and another decade of life ahead. Many reviews compare this to a Brunello, but I think it is more fruit force and less elegance than a good Brunello.
The nose is rich and oak dominant with powerful notes of sweet vanilla and clove.
On the palate this wine is full bodied with chalky tannins and a pronounced acidic backbone. I can’t imagine this wine would be enjoyable young.
Flavours add baking spices and black cherry / blackberry. Even some jasmine tea on the finish.
High quality wine meant for the cellar. I’d love to try again in 2025 or 2030.

I enjoyed this more than the previous bottle two years ago. It still seems young but has rounded out a bit. I don’t doubt that it can improve further with a couple more years of aging. Drink or hold.

It showed the dark fruit and oak but was slightly distracting. I think it was the sap or Turpin from the oak. Maybe more air would have helped but the other three in the flight showed better.

Served blind. Initially this reflected a lot of new oak aromatics, mainly clove. It also tasted very primary but when this had time to air, both the aromatic and palate improved yet it still showed lots of barrel notes. Chocolate and cherries, young with a good amount of acidity, too.

A PnP. Opaque dark ruby. Ripe dark red cherries, plum and freshly turned earth notes, very smooth and elegant on the palate, medium acidity with rounded tannins. A modern-style Chianti Classico, a bit extractive, but very well-made wine. Now through 2030.

Rather modern interpretation of Sangiovese but very well made. Charming dark fruit, some cedar wood and aniseed. Could have profited from a tad more acidity but still a very good Chianti Classico GS and a clear recommendation.

Opaque dark colour. Slightly ripe new world nuances within a Chianti framework. Just ready. Drink or hold. Not my personal preference in terms of taste profile, but very well made.
By the way, the 2010 is a fair bit more structured than the 2009 and is more suited to further aging. I would definitely drink the 2009 first if you have both.

perfect drinking spot right now, the nose shows strong scents of rose petals, cherry and leather, dry, complex, complete, buff tannins, dried cherry, beef jerky, earth and black tea on the palate, tobacco hints carry away the finish, supportive acid, overall a classy classico, went great with a basic cheese pizza; coming from a sangiovese lover, I highly recommend this, will continue to drink well for many years to come

big chianti as Badia a Passignano always is. Rubin red in the glass, slow to breathe and open both at the nose and at the palate, gentile tannins, mouthfilling, elegant, classy, some red ripe fruit still there, underbrush, wet leaves. BaP never falls short. 2010 vintage confirms. Now and for the next four years

Deep dark garnet. A nose of tobacco, cherry. The first sip is somewhat surprising with quite an attack of acidity and tannic structure. Not in a bad way at all, but just caught me off guard. Beautiful notes of dark cherry, cassis, spice, tobacco, this wine has - as they say - a lot going on. Firm tannins that indicate that there are many years to go. Medium finish with just a touch of bitterness. And, at about $45 - $50, a great QPR.

Tasted blind. The color is a slightly hazy, deep ruby garnet. The nose is clean, developing and medium in intensity, with ripe black cherry and some subtle French oak influence. The palate is dry, with medium (+) to high, smooth tannins, medium acidity, intensity, and medium (+) to high alcohol (14%). The palate is consistent with the nose, with a hint of bitterness on the medium (+) long finish. It is drinking well now and appears to have some age, but also seems to be quite age-worthy given its firm structure. I guessed that it was Italian, but could not quite divine the varietal, given the fairly modern-style extraction and oak treatment. This is really tasty and worth seeking out, particularly at or under $50. Definitely not your grandpa's Chianti, this is Chianti Classico's Brunello fighter.

Again, same notes as before, a wonderful wine with pork, and not so wonderful with fried food, but of course. A great wine if you can find it, and aged just enough to drink right now while relatively youthful. Mouthful and balance feels like a 10-15 year-aged Chianti. In Korea, this is one of the best value wines I see on the shelves, and it's relatively aged.! (rare in Korea).

Great wine, and it delighted everyone at the table with a full moon shining down on us. Went beautifully over marinated pork and onions. Nice aromas, great balance, light tannins, and a very long finish. If you drink the nice Two Hands Angels Share shiraz after this, the Angels Share comes off tasting like a fruit bomb, sprite, with loads of alcohol. I would describe the Italian Badia A Passignano as finessed and balanced, a perfect first wine on any occasion. 94 Drank in Seoul-2-11-17.

working with wine 2016 seminar 1 - tuscany (Hilton Hotel, Sydney): Medium minus intensity and slightly oxidised with white pepper spice, funky and tight with leather notes. With time and agitation more polished oak and cherry and spiced notes arise. Also some ripe vegetable and herbaceous notes and very slight dairy farm...In the mouth, again, it's very slightly oxidised with plentiful drying but fine textured tannins. The fruit is constrained and muted and this, and the juicy acidity, at this juncture, is a little lost beneath the tannins and the structure. it's a bit extractive and out of whack for me at the moment

Medium-high aromatics featuring dark red berries, forest floor, plum and a hint of barnyard. It's medium-full bodied with very nice aroma replays, while the finish length is very long. Structured tannins and very good acids will allow this wine to age gracefully until the middle of next decade.

A week in Tuscany (and Lots of wines); 10/19/2015-10/21/2015 (Tuscany, Italy): Bought at the winery and consumed back at the Villa. This is pretty much the same. Maybe it is shut down now, but for a Gran Selezione, I would expect more. The nose has cherries and spice. Nice texture. Good acidity. On the palate, cherries, slight forest floor and a bit of spice. Nice acidity. A really good wine but short of outstanding. Maybe a few years improves this.

A week in Tuscany (and Lots of wines); 10/19/2015-10/21/2015 (Tuscany, Italy): I was suprised to find out this was now labelled as the Gran Selezione. Again, it had been a while since I tried this. I had always preferred the Villa Antinori for the same price. Our tour guide said this was made more in the traditional style. Perhaps. The nose is tight. With air, it shows cherries and spice and a slight celery note. Firm tannins. On the palate, this is medium bodied with cherries and slight leather. Slight heat on the finish. The bottle was pop and pour, so perhaps this just needed some air to open. In the 30 minutes I had with it, it was very good, but never took that final step to greatness. It seemed to have potential though, so perhaps it might.

This is one of the best italian wines to enjoy a dinner for me. A strong "toscana chianti" wine, long finish, lots of cedar wood and berries, some hints of coffee and leather, but round and smooth to the palate. Will certainly have it again.

The bouquet showed a pretty, brilliant fruit character with an airy freshness. Cherry and strawberry fruits mixed with hints of cedar and balsamic tones on the nose. It was refined and focused on the palate with silky-supple textures giving way to ripe strawberry and hints of spice. The finish was long with staying, tart red berry fruit, which turned fleshy and ripe before fading away.

Anteprima Chianti Classico 2013 & Toscana IGT (50 TN inside!!) (Firenze (Italy) - Stazione Lepolda): Also if this wine will not be realesed before 1 year, it is perfectly ready.
Extremely rich at nose with coffee and cocoa hints perfectly joining the ripe red fruit. Already tamed, velvety tannins.
