Short decant, not really needed. Still have a big nose with black cherry, cocoa, anise, plum, currant and spice. Similar flavors with black cherry, currant, anise, plum spice and vanilla. Medium bodied and rich. Long smooth finish with soft tannins. Holding well, has not really changed much with age, but very enjoyable.

Well Structured and Balanced. Classic new world fruit forward approach. Plums, Raisins, Mocha, and dark fruit. Lacks complexity, character or terroir. Good but Mono dimensional.

huge mixed wild dark berry; plenty of oak (more than i prefer) but it is integrated and more mocha-like than woody; good length; on day one it was too big for BBQ lamb (a hard feat), then just right on day two for a fancy pizza; a bigger wine than i drink these days, but still great in its own style. BTW, decant for heavy sediment

Exceptional wine. Stunning combination of mature hammy fruit with clove and dark cocoa. Tannins in harmony. This is at peak or possibly even one or two years from perfection.

Purchased recently from Cellaraiders. Clearly a well-stored bottle. Wine was decanted for 1 hour and served in Riedel stemware. Four tasters had consistent notes on this wine which is to say nose of dark fruit dominated by very high alcohol volatility which was sometimes so pronounced it was like sniffing nail polish. Similarly, on the palate big, ripe fruit but the wine is overwhelmed by its alcohol content. Disappointing effort from Pride. Perhaps additional bottle age or longer decanting would help this wine, but I'm not sure it will ever come together into a more balanced, elegant style.

inky dark deep blackberry, some graphite and wood; leaner mountain style; still has a rustic 'young' quality that made it too big for the chicken/veggies, but good with the BBQ steak. Plenty of stuffing to age further, but not my fave style. Less enjoyable on day two, when the woody tannins became more prominent. I am drinking lighter style wines these days.

Drinking beautifully. Dark fruits on the nose and a bit of spice. The palate has plenty of fruit, but not blowsy or overblown. Bitter sweet chocolate, currants, black cherry, blackberry, smoke. Firm tannins, great acidity and balance. Could use another 2 years to soften the tannins a bit more, but no reason to wait. 70% Napa, 30% Sonoma. 14.8% ABV but not hot at all.

Clear deep ruby. Clean nose of pronounced intensity with aromas of stewed, dark fruit, ripe black cherry, forest floor, chocolate, toast, leather, wine is fully developed. On the palate it is dry with medium plus acidity, medium plus tannins, medium alcohol, full body and pronounced flavor intensity that matches the nose. Very good wine. Drink now, at its peak. I would not suggest any further aging.

For us, this was ready to drink. There was some hints of fruit but definitely the secondary tobacco and earthiness was there. Solid color but not the deep colors like a younger wine

Soft and very velvety in mouth. Aromatic with asphalt, some graphite and aged fruit. This is a very good wine and is drinking well right now. On the palette this is dark cherry & prune with a great mouthfeel and long lingering flavor.

I agree with Rick 4 wine, this bottle is still super young. Very ripe lush fruit and big bold legs. Need a good decanting to help it settle down. I think it easily has two more years to peak.

Confused by other reviews, as this is drinking perfectly (certainly not past its prime). It has the softer, subtler characteristics that Spring Mountain wines have - and was a near perfect example of this mountain. Received this from a friend - wished I had bought more of it from him.

Was a good run. Last bottle out of two cases. Still enjoyed, but personally i like this wine with a little more oomph. Has mellowed which isn't a bad thing, just thought this drank better a few years ago. Was better after about 1/2 hour of being open as some of the alcohol blew off.

From magnum. Double decanted off its sediment - not as much as I expected - an hour or so before the evening began. Notes of black cherry and cassis. Medium tannins, with dark fruit and plum flavors. Hints of vanilla in the finish. Nice, but on the young side in this format.

Drank as part of a vertical (06, 07, 08). Opened 20 minutes before dinner. Drinking very well right now, Nice balance of dark fruit and softened tannins with an earthy undertone. Should continue to drink well for a couple of more years.

10 years of age is just about perfect for this Pride Cab. Dark fruit on the nose with some autumn spices. Dark fruit on palate, smooth tannins, little bit of acid to hold it all together. No immediate danger of falling off but terrific right now.

Consistent with a bottle about two months earlier. Blueberries and a little smoke, both on the nose and on the palate. Rich, with more complexity than previously noted. Very nice finish. Beautifully balanced and in no immediate danger of heading downhill.

This bottle is in a great spot. The currant and dark fruit is beautiful and in check. A really nice bouquet - very floral and perfumed. Just nicely structured and balanced. Not decanted and it didn't need it (except for sediment, but this bottle stood up for a few weeks). This drank well from the moment of pop n' pour. The real question is how long will this be at this nice peak.

On the nose you get nice ripe dark fruits...blackberries, black currants, plum w/ hints of coffee and anise. The flavors are beaming w/ dark berries and cassis. This is a full body wine with soft tannins that should continue to evolve nicely for the next 7-10 years.

Opened and poured into Bordeaux glasses 30 to 45 minutes before tasting. Consistent with a previous bottle a few months ago. Blueberries and a hint of smoke on the nose. Mostly blueberries on the palate, with (unfortunately) minimal complexity. Quite rich and fairly viscous. Humongous fruit + viscosity = bodacious finish. Perfectly balanced and seamless right now, but with enough tannins to suggest that it's good for another couple years.

Think this was better when younger. Fruit forward, dark berry, but seems to have lost complexity. Also, had an alcohol burn on the palate which I had not noticed before

Could it have really been 3 years since I last tried you? Opened but not decanted and followed over 3 hours. Charcoal and cigar on the nose, along with a hint of vanilla and spice box. A little watery, the structure is falling behind the solid fruits but still approachable and enjoyable. Some of the red fruit has a slight back-palate tart finish. Plum, red cherry. A solid pop'n'pour, this is in a good place today with minimal air and could be consumed as late us 2020 fi not decanted.

Opened (not decanted or poured) about an hour before drinking. Non-specific black fruit on the nose, along with a little smoke. Black cherry and licorice on the palate. High viscosity and quite rich. BIG fruit along with the viscosity gave it a borderline spectacular finish, where it showed a hint of orange peel. Flat-out delicious. Still quite tannic, so I don't expect it to peak for another year or two.

Nice dark fruit -- blackberries, blueberries -- with the brightness I find in mountain fruit. Good structure, tannins. Some earthiness and, perhaps, tobacco. Well balanced wine. Even better two days later. Save last bottle until 2017.

No formal notes, quick decant on Xmas eve. No sign of age, drinking very well, notably better than the last bottle in 2010. Lingering finish. Crowd pleaser, gone much too quickly. Again, showing very well but no hurry either

not my favorite style but very nicely done… had at MCC Chairman's Cup dinner and folks pounded this, it was very dark, extracted and rich but with enough acid to avoid cloying, also had some green / herbal overtones (PV?) and was nice / interesting even if a little full bodied for my tastes, certainly loved by the crowd

Had both a '06 Pride Cab and '06 Ch. Montelena Estate Cab. The Pride was quite smooth, but seemed thin compared to the Montelena. The Pride really starting coming around towards end, which was about 90 minutes after decanting. The Montelena Estate had a wonderful complexity and rusticness to it that paired nicely with the filets.

4 hour decant. The nose is expressive with tons of black and dusty red fruit, a hint of cedar - it's creamy and inviting. Great mouthfeel is my immediate impression, with just enough acidity, and resolved tannins. The profile on the palate leans towards the dark fruits, with plenty of spices, a touch of oak and alcohol poke through. Impressive stuff here.

This particular bottle was very soft and seemed past its peak. Still lots of fruit but the structure haad dissipated. While this is a softer vintage in general, I've also had some bottle variation from this wine. Retry upon return home. BYO bottle brought on vacation.

The nose was open wafting scents of roses and carnations mixed with dark cherries. The flavors were intense with tastes of kirsh, currants and black cherry jam. There was a hint of eucalyptus and earthy mushrooms. The mouthfeel was like velvet. The finish was long on dark, chocolaty cherries.

I was in the mood for this. Our meal had a beef in bordelais sauce so I wanted something with a bit of stuffing. The Pride was very smooth. Deep purple in the glass, tannins fully integrated. Enough minerality/acidity to stitch the fruit together. Delivered a very enjoyable glass. The straightforward nature of the style was very apparent since it followed more "claret" styled wines like a '00 Clerc-Milon and a very unique '78 Heitz Fay Vineyard that had more mouthwatering acidity and red fruit profiles. We had the Pride next to an '01 Insignia and that was a good pairing. Drink the '06 anytime now or over the 5-7 years.

Decanted for approx 3 hours; dark ruby color with a slight brownish hue at the edges, clear; initial nose was pleasing with tobacco, leather, slight bit of oak and menthol; palate was similar to the nose and that of a typical Napa Cab; soft and velvet tannins; medium acid level. Second glass softened up even futher and secondary notes of coffee and licorice became evident.
This was a nice and easy drinking wine. The second layer of flavors help to boost the score from 91-92. Enjoyable and one of Napa's more consistent producers, but for the price, there are options that are just as enjoyable.

Annual Thanksgiving blind tasting for my wife's cousins of an affordable, moderate and high priced wine. This bottle was the moderate priced wine for the tasting. It was up against an 08 Stags' Leap Cab (affordable) and 06 Hall Segassia Cab (high price). Decanted a couple hours prior to drinking. The Pride drank very well. Classic Napa fruit flavors, velvety tannins, solid backbone and a long finish. In the end the Hall was the favorite, but the Pride showed well especially considering it was half the price of the Hall.

Very clean for a Pride. Filtered and decanted with only a bit of solids left in the bottle. Seductive nose, slow legs, nice color. Rich mouthfeel compared to most other 2006s. Went perfectly with a prime BBQ'd porterhouse.

Hmm, this is nice. Looking at my note from 09 (which i didn't remember before opening this page), it's pretty similar, perhaps a touch more mature. Never an opulent, hit-you-over-the-head wine, this is balanced now, with nice tannins setting off some leather and tobacco. It still has a very nice Napa mouthfeel, but without the cloying extraction of some cults. This is in a good spot, now and for several years (IMHO); glad I have several left.

I have to say that it seems like this is in a great place right now. The tannins are still there and these can continue to age, but I found it very enjoyable. Good cab flavors that I found to be full without being extracted and forced. Thought I had a bottle left after this one but my inventory says this is my last one. I'll enjoy the remaining two glasses today. Enjoy

1996-2009 Pride Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon vertical tasting (Monterrey, Mexico): From the moment I un-corked this bottle it showed a very intense and attractive nose that filled the room. Dark fruits, animal fat and spice open up the way for a deep, concentrated wine that has a lot of ripeness, but is well balanced with very nice juicy acidity. Excellent wine. Everithing one can expect in a Napa Cabernet Sauvignon. It received 8 votes for wine of the flight (including mine) and was the majority pick for Wine of the Night.

Drank this after a long night so my taste buds could have been fading. Popped and poured. Tannins seemed integrated from first sip on. Fruit was a bit muted, tobacco really came out. Could be this is quickly approaching the time when I need to drink the rest. Will have another bottle soon.

Opened, not decanted. Inky purple color, with long legs. The nose shows black cherries, cassis, road tar, and mountain soil tones. The palate is characterized by a core of sweet black fruit, mocha, charcoal, tobacco, and hints of vanilla. Full bodied and deep, with a grippy finish.

Very velvety and smooth, tannin is nearly completely shed making me think drink now. At 80.00 delivered from the winery, this is no qpr for me anymore. Strongly flavored with black cherry and cassis, with a meaty/olive tinge. Lacked complexity in that it was difficult to distinguish individual flavors. Similar on day two.

I must admit, I really don't "get" this wine. I guess I'll give the punch line first. This is a fine wine but I don't think it is worth >$60 from the winery. I have stored this wine at 58 degrees since purchase. Nice nose but a little muted. Black fruit predominates with some chewy tannins. Okay, but is that worth $66 plus shipping? I guess after learning about wines for a while now, the answer for me is that it is not.

A very sophisticated wine. Incredibly dark, rich, and rigid, structured tannins. Nose of dark fruit (plums and dark cherries) with a touch of creaminess on the palate. Just dynamic in the mouth and continued opening up over the 2 hours we drank it, including decanting. I expect this would have continued to get better and better with both time in the cellar and time in the decanter. A really excellent Cali Cab that doesn't come across at hot.

This was a Pride wine all the way. Big sweet polished fruit behind some nice tannins & oaky liquor. Cherries on day tow. Like the of super ripe black ones Mom would and vodka too and let ferment in jars. Not a old world style, can't see secondary flavors developing. This is nice and lively, good with Italian foods even pizza. Great now will improve slightly. QRP not too great.

Popped and poured, consumed over two days. Deep ruby/purple hue. Forward aromas of mixed, dark fruits, ripe currant, vanilla bean, and a bit of heat. Medium-plus body. On the palate, this Cabernet has lost much of it's fruit and shows pronounced flavors vanilla and burnt sugar due to the large amount of toasted oak. The fruit is in the background to the oak, very hard to discern on day one. On day two, the nose evolves to show a note of smoked meat with plummy, dark fruits. Slightly more fruit on the palate but still retains the massive oak. Tannins are round and mellow on the moderate-plus finish. Drink over the short term, possibly longer.
Quick commentary: Not sure where this is headed, was brilliant in barrel and bottles over the past 1 1/2 - 2 years have all been outstanding. Although no flaws are apparent, this could be an off bottle...or perhaps a reminder that many of the Pride "regular" level wines are best enjoyed in their youth.

Had with filet mignon the first night and decanted for an hour before drinking over the next two hours. Finished off the second half of the bottle the next night with pork chops. 14.8% ABV. Dark garnet, somewhat translucent in the glass. Lots of caramel on the nose. Medium full bodied with currant fruit and more cedar and caramel. This is okay, but disappointing. Pride's regular cabs have slipped in recent vintages in my opinion.

This wine is over oaked, which dominates the nose and the palate, and does not allow the nuances of Cabernet Sauvignon to come out. A flaw, in my opinion. It's shame because this is otherwise a muscular, firm wine with solid structure, focus and depth that will allow it to cellar for ten years no problem if you want to see what secondary flavors develop. Good finish. Oaky tasting notes are consistent my notes on the Pride Merlot 2006, too. The 84 rating might seem harsh, but I cannot give a wine this over oaked a "very good to excellent" score.

Decanted for 3 hours. Similar notes as previous bottle: Definitely drinking well right now. Velvety dark fruit, vanilla, some oak and sweetness. Maybe even a hint of chocolate in this bottle. Against my better judgment, I drank this knowing it was still way too young. But a friend wanted to try it. Flavors were still very closed. Big, chewy mountain fruit tannins that need some time to resolve. By the last glass, it was starting to open up a bit. I will wait at least a few years before drinking the next bottle

Deep red. Sweet (like cotton candy but not overwhelming - consistent with what others have described as vanilla or caramel), anise, and cherry fruit on the nose. Menthol, leather, smoke, oak, cassis, and raspberry on the palate. Lovely, long finish, with gripping tannins that make you pucker your mouth just enough to relish in the fruit as you get a second taste.

Hmm, nice bottle, rich with flavor but not overdone, well balanced. Deep purple (color, not the band) with an intoxicating nose of cedar and dark berries. In the mouth, rich with dusty cedar and chocolate, lots of fruit and a long finish that balances firm but not astrigent tannins and some moderate acid (re the acid, at first it "feels" low acid, but it firms up nicely after a few seconds on the palate.

My first trip to Napa, Ca.; 7/9/2009-7/11/2009: Rich cabernet fruits, very focused. Dark fruits and spice, slightly off-balance acidity with a nice long lip-smacking finish. I feel this is a bit young still and will benefit greatly from another year or two in the bottle.

Popped and aerated for 3 hours. Deep purple hue. Fairly pronounced aromas of blackberry, black currant, vanilla bean, and toast. Medium-plus body with nice concentration. As with many of Pride's offerings, the 2006 vintage features great interplay between the big flavors of fruit and spicy oak that coat the palate. Tannins are quite smooth and round on the plus finish (much smoother than the 2005). This has really come together within the past few months and should be singing after another 1-2 years in cellar.

Wow, what a fantastic wine. Velvety soft for such a young cab. Very fruit forward with mild tannins, extremely easy to drink and went perfect with a kobe beef burger. I can't wait to taste this wine in a few years to see how the tannins mellow out the fruit even more!

Deep purple color leads to the classic pride nose of dark cherry and blackberry milkshake. Big body is all about the fruit and oak. Typical Pride oaking of chocolate and vanilla. It works because the fruit is so lovely. Not a lot of other flavors at this time. Finish lasts 20 seconds. A very enjoyalbe bottle of wine, I expect it will improve over the next 1 to 2 years.

My faith in aged Bordeaux...restored! (and a beautiful 11 year old Napa Cab) (Monterrey, Mexico): I have been a devoted Pride Cab fan since the 1996 vintage. This is why I was dissapointed with this showing. It doesn't happen often that a Pride Cab comes in last in a tasting I organize. This one did. Nose is dominated by milk shaky vanilla and lactic aromas. It lacks focus and definition. Disjointed in the palate and a bit flabby. There is, for sure a lot of fruit, but it is not showing well at this point. What a 180 degree experience from its older 1997 sibling that we drank alongside it.

Drank at the picnic area of the winery after the tour and tasting. I really enjoyed the 05 when I had it 5/6/08, even though it was young tannic and tight. Tasting both the 05 and 06 at the winery, again, the 05 was very good, but the 06 was better. It was very young, but had a fuller mid palate and rounder tannins that felt better integrated into the wine than the 05 despite being a year younger. Really enjoyable now, and will get better for a few years.

Popped and poured for my parent's double birthday celebration. Youthful, medium to dark purple hue. Big nose right out of the gate, featuring mountain blackberry, spicy oak, fresh cedar, currant & cassis. Medium bodied......and surprisingly elegant.........with blackberry, loganberry, cassis, vanilla bean, dried black fruits, and a touch of freshly picked herbs on the palate. Plus finish, even at this young stage. Excellent Pride Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon, very refined and finesse driven when compared to recent vintages. Best since 2002.

Popped/poured. 88pts. Very young with an almost yeasty quality to the nose early on. That blows off and develops into cassis, sweet leather, and oak on the nose. The palate is a bit odd for me. So much so, that I opened up two bottles to compare. Quite a bit of oak, but without the accompanying vanilla richness. An "austere" oak if that makes any sense, but dominating the palate nevertheless. The fruit seems a touch thin for a higher-end cab, even discounting for youth. After a 2 bottle experiment, I'll put the rest away for a few years to see if this rounds out. I suspect it will, to the tune of 90-92 pts perhaps. I do wonder about the long-term ageability of this given my current perception of the balance between the oak (high) and fruit (low).

Napa visit; 1/18/2008-1/20/2008 (Napa Valley, California): Tasted from barrel at Pride. Not rated - the single barrel that I tasted was excellent, but since the final wine will be a blend of many barrels it would be difficult to assign a score. Loved the notes of cherry, tobacco, leather and smoke... good structure to this wine. It's clearly a young wine, but has an intriguing intensity. It will be fun to see the evolution of the wine. Thanks to Jason for taking me through the caves and letting me taste this from barrel.

Short decant, not really needed. Still have a big nose with black cherry, cocoa, anise, plum, currant and spice. Similar flavors with black cherry, currant, anise, plum spice and vanilla. Medium bodied and rich. Long smooth finish with soft tannins. Holding well, has not really changed much with age, but very enjoyable.

huge mixed wild dark berry; plenty of oak (more than i prefer) but it is integrated and more mocha-like than woody; good length; on day one it was too big for BBQ lamb (a hard feat), then just right on day two for a fancy pizza; a bigger wine than i drink these days, but still great in its own style.
BTW, decant for heavy sediment

Not decanted and it didn't need it (except for sediment, but this bottle stood up for a few weeks). This drank well from the moment of pop n' pour. The real question is how long will this be at this nice peak.

The Montelena Estate had a wonderful complexity and rusticness to it that paired nicely with the filets.

Very dark, almost purple color. Fair amount of sediment. Deep blackberry and minerally nose. Some spiciness and charcoal too. Very integrated mouthfeel with good cabernet fruitiness. Good finish. Slightly minty. Great sturdy character. This went very well with our prime rib dinner. Very refreshing with the heavy food.

In the mouth, rich with dusty cedar and chocolate, lots of fruit and a long finish that balances firm but not astrigent tannins and some moderate acid (re the acid, at first it "feels" low acid, but it firms up nicely after a few seconds on the palate.
