Drunk over a couple of nights, stored under vacuvin. Fairly muted nose, hint of bramble and plum with some woody notes. Palate was more expressive. Darknsour cherries, plum, tobacco wood, licorice. Medium finish, medium body. Was a little grippy at first but settled down with some air. Very enjoyable.

Knowing Ornellaia's entry-level offering is nowhere near the level of their other wines, this was still quite an enjoyable drink.
On the nose, dark pepper, cherries and thyme, along with some subtle modern notes - namely, cassis and vanilla. Quite appealing. In the mouth - round, soft tannins, just firm enough to hold the wine together, some tasty ripe fruit and a medium body.
Quite a straightforward effort, no great complexity here obviously, but at age 7 - this is quite enjoyable and would probably pair well with a nice piece of red meat.
87 points on the night. Drink now, as the structure won't support more than a year or two.

The wine drinks fairly nice, with a certain bitter aftertaste. One should not expect a real Supertuscan. It is evident that this wine is only the third wine of the Supertuscan Ornellaia which means: a bit more than an ordinary every day's drinker... 87(-88)

Coravin fun - Randoms (My place, Kent Street): Slightly baked black fruits; plums a little red cherry, dusty spice, slight tobacco leaf. Medium plus intensity acidity, lashings of drying talc textured tannins, fair lick of alcohol warmth, baked black fruits and a little cherry on the palate as well.

Monthly Tasting Group HWS; Bolgheri (By BS): In the bouquet dark berries, vanilla, laurel, oak and beautiful herbs and spices. On the palate vanilla, some earthy impressions, firm dark berries, good acidity, youthful tannin. Fairly elegant wine. 90 - 91 Wait a 3 - 5 years for more finesse.

I drank this in a comparison to a 2018 Volpaia CC - the contrast was instructive. The CC was bright red cherry, bright acidity, assertive tannis and really a perfect pizza wine. By contrast, the Le Volte was deeper, richer, softer. Red and black cherry, black tea, tobacco and earth. A bit of leather on the finish. Somewhat lush, with a caressing finish. Yummier than a pure Tuscan sangiovese and the merlot really mellows it out. This might improve a bit with time, but the extra time is unnecessary. It's a lovely Super Tuscan blend.

PNP. Drank over several hours, approachable from the start but deepened over time. Mostly red fruit, some black fruit. Honestly, a bit jumbled between the tart cherry Sangiovese and plush Merlot plum. Slightly grippy tannins. It was fun to try to pick out all the notes from the blend, I kept getting something different. Not for the purists, but easy drinking and the geeks can play varietal bingo.

Le Volte is a Bordeaux style blend that is inexpensive, and usually very good. The 2016 vintage is not as good as the 2015, and therefore is very easy to find. I have tasted this wine six times and have not been particularly impressed. It may improve with age, or may not.

Nose of iodine, tar, molasses and dark cherry. The palate was disjointed and hard to characterize except that there was hard chalky tannin, but nothing enjoyable. This was not going down easy and I decanted this for two hours. I had a glass left for day two and it was worse. I'd have to simply try again and maybe wait a couple more years.

Delicious! Smooth, rich and velvety on the palette. This was just perfect with pasta & sauce.. and is ideal for really most foods that have a little heft to them. On our tour, we've now entered Tuscany and I welcome the tasting of more familiar wine styles and more predictable experiences. Liguria was a bit of a slog. While tasting experiments of new varietals can be enjoying, there is something to be said for knowing what you are getting.
Our first Tuscan wine, Le Volte Dell' Ornellaia, is an entry Ornellaia at $24 a bottle. Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon make up the varietal blend. Deep magenta in the glass. Merlot and Cabernet fruit on the nose, weighted by Sangiovese in the mouth. Noticeably 14.5% alcohol. Green olives mark a somewhat sour finish. Images of Pride Mountain Merlot of Napa are the lasting taste impression. The faintest, nano hint of cork on the finish. Not a flaw -- more likely a dusty terroir.
An everyday wine meant to be consumed with everyday meals. No reason to collect and age, drink what you have and perhaps buy more.

Color: deep full red edging to purple, slightly clear around the edges, viscous for the young age Nose: strong aroma of red and blue fruit - especially cherries and currant, some wood Palate: dry, starts with slightly sweet red fruit followed by mushrooms and oak, very quick finish but well structured, relatively tannic finish probably from the young age Air + decanting brings out much more vibrancy Overall very solid wine that will probably evolve with another year or two but great drinking now for a great price

We had an earlier vintage of this wine on vacation in Italy and were lucky to find this wine here in the US. Ruby red, with mouth-filling blueberry/blackberry flavors smooth on the palate, and currant-slightly leathery finish. I will continue to follow later vintages of this wine.

Not going to blow your socks off with layers of complexity, but I would still call this a pleasant wine. You can taste the heat coming from Italy, it has a totally different vibe than bdx. Sangiovese is apparent. I’m not so familiar with the ST’s, so I don’t have much to compare to. Could benefit from a few more years in bottle to tame the tannins.

I think this is still a bit young. It’s drinking well already but as it opened up it hinted at some more complexity which would lift it beyond a decent wine.

Oak nose that masks the fruit at this juncture. Light to medium body. Short mid and finish. I know that this wine is young but fear that their won't be much fruit or body left by the time the wood integrates.
Aromas of Starwberries, plums and ripe cherries, along with herbs. A soft palate with medium plus tannins and over ripe red fruits with liquorice and grippy acidity. Easy finish. Drink now

At first nothing on the nose. Very closed. Slightly better after an hour of decanting. Some plum and herbs. Prominent tannins. Don’t get the hype around this wine. Perhaps it should be kept in the cellar for a couple of years. Too pricey. Didn’t guess this was merlot.

Mouth: Tart blackberry and black currant stream through together, ushering in a streak of acidity and an expansive tannic finish of dried cherry and earth. Fruit is juicy on the approach, but everything ends on a decidedly saline note.
Overall: Direct and to the point, this is elegantly rustic but still linear and taught. A fine food wine. A bit overpriced perhaps for what it is. This is marked by good quality, but without Ornellaia on the front of it, this is a $20-25 wine. Sangiovese, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon.
90.

Tonterías really inexpensive, but when buying a wine at Harrod’s you aren’t bargain hunting. Just wanting a decent qpr. Not bad with dark fruit, cassis dominating with wood, minerals and oak tannins keeping it young but expected.
What wasn’t expected was the crappy cork. Yes I had a lame oil rig type of opener, thanks TSA but it literally pulled up sawdust time and time again. I would have returned it had I an extra day. Still, whatever, blew the cork dust out to the best of my abilities and pushed the cork in.
Very drinkable now. Swirl for 40 minutes and this is quite tasty in its primary phase. Pr witty much a $15-$20 wi Th a pedigree that lets a big store charge £30ish.

By the glass at Atrio, Conrad Hotel NY. Relatively freshly opened bottle. Very much an early drinking wine, well made, round and with good depth of flavour, round and the tannin albeit very much present is on the polished and smooth side. Good 88 and assuming one does not overpay for the name very good wine.

This is a real flirter! On the nose the wine is a bit closed or mute with nuances of red berries, cold sausages and wet stones. On the palate I find dark berries, coffee, choclate, violets and roasted oak. The wine is fruity with a good, balancing acidity and round smooth tannins. Still very young, but in a good, flirty straight forward way.

Palate: dry, starts with slightly sweet red fruit followed by mushrooms and oak, very quick finish but well structured, relatively tannic finish probably from the young age
Air + decanting brings out much more vibrancy
Overall very solid wine that will probably evolve with another year or two but great drinking now for a great price

Dried and sour cherry, thyme and sandstone. Bitter out of the bottle but it Improvedd with 1-2 hours of air. Short term hold. Some upside.

We had an earlier vintage of this wine on vacation in Italy and were lucky to find this wine here in the US. Ruby red, with mouth-filling blueberry/blackberry flavors smooth on the palate, and currant-slightly leathery finish. I will continue to follow later vintages of this wine.

Could age more but I found letting this one breathe benefits it as one hour goes by...found this after the 2nd time. My wife and I uncorked the 2nd bottle we had in the cellar.

PnD. Let air for 9hrs.
Clear medium garnet.
Clean. Medium intensity with aromas of cassis rosemary sage plum and tobacco.
Dry. Medium alcohol. Medium acidity. Medium(+) tannins. Medium body. Medium(+)intensity with flavours of cassis herb plum and tobacco.
Medium(+) finish. Very good. Drink now suitable for further ageing. Great balance length and intensity. Nice savoury notes. French grapes with Tuscan flair. Love it. Look forward to enjoying my other five bottles over the next 10 years.
Last 1/3 of the bottle on day 2. Totally validates initial note.

Medium+ Alchohol
Vanilla, Blackberries, Plums, Red Cherries, Tobacco and Vanilla on the nose
Lovely and fruity on the palate,
Tannins still a bit prominent and a little short and dry on the finish
Try again in 2021

Quite youthful still, but approachable, with dark cherry fruit and a slight bitterness which will no doubt go with time. Medium weight. Needs another year or two.

Agree with Sebastian80's note about the hype question. None of the Ornellaia pedigree for me. Bright, lively, obvious. Probably needs more time.

Medium-deep garnet.
Nose: Bing cherry, blackberry, warm cedar wood, dried thyme. Shy projection.

The QPR maybe not the best but that's about the only complaint I could muster. Dark, ruby in the glass - a bit surprisingly so - but enjoyable from the start. Not overly complex but a pleasant drink. Nothing bad to say here!

Dark than most Sangiovese and suspect this is a blend. Bright red fruit and earthy nose. Lots of ripe dark cherries. Touch of acidity but not much structure. Excellent accompaniment for pasta at lunch. 5+12+16+8=91

Medium-high intensity nose with cherry, spice, herbs, and red pepper nuances that also come through on the medium-full bodied palate. Supple tannins are supported by vibrant acidity. Nicely balanced with very good fruit concentration. Very good finish length. Merlot, Sangiovese, and Cabernet Sauvignon.
