At eighteen years, the fill level, foil, label, and importantly, the cork, as shown, were in ideal condition. This is still holding its own with life left although likely at the end of the apex of its drinking window and won't improve with further aging. Dark garnet colored with a some purple and very slight amount of rust hue starting to set in, full-bodied, dry, rich, complex, nicely balanced integrated flavors dark berries and currants, with notes of dark cocoa, graphite, leather, tobacco leaf, cedar and spice with lingering firm but refined tannins. https://unwindwine.blogspot.com/2023/07/flora-springs-trilogy-napa-valley-red.html

Very dark red/purple color. From Magnum, PNP, drank several glasses over 6 hours. I've thoroughly enjoyed this vintage over the years. This was the first time out of magnum and first time drinking in 6 years. I'm thrilled to say it was flat out fantastic and a great way to celebrate my dad. This has a head turning nose; there's a great perfume of dried wood, cedar, cassis, brambly dark berries, violets, dried tobacco, blue fruits, damp forest floor and dried spices with hints of dark cocoa as well. The palate is an idyllic blend of pencil shavings, dark fruits with a blueberry and boysensberry note woven in, and the gorgeous dried woodsiness and dried earth really stands out. This is a really refined Bordeaux blend with fine dusty tannins and impeccable balance. 94+ to 95pts.

I loved this a year ago. Not so enthusiastic over the weekend. Lots of green pepper in the mouth masked the incredible well aged mix. Take that flavor out and it was a good wine. Given our experience, I would highly recommend a drink now!!!

Had it with filet wrapped in bacon, homemade mushroom ravioli, kale Caesar salad. Hummana, Hummana, Hummana say no more. Everything went together spot on!!!

A lovely, wonderfully made wine. It has a complex bouquet featuring red fruits and cedar, then it's smooth, medium-bodied and elegant in the mouth. A fine structure comprised more of acid than tannins indicates it still a few years to go. Needs a couple of hours of air, and tastes just as good on Day 2. This wine is made in a feminine style and my taste runs more to power, so if you favor more elegant Bordeaux blends this could easily be a 93 or 94 for you.

I just pinch myself every time I drink this - to make certain this really isn't a dream. Beautiful blend - and so many different flavors all coming together. It is still drinking great - and has a couple more years in it. Really, really nice choice for our 10th anniversary.

A friend brought this for dinner. Purchased '09 from the winery in Napa and really couldn't remember much about it. What a treat! Once opened I knew it needed to rest a bit and then aerated the pour. The earthiness, cassis, dark cherry, tobacco, cedar all played well together leading to a very nice balanced smooth finish that lasted just the right amount of time. Wish I could find more of this vintage! However, believe it is approaching it's time limit and may have only a couple years at most left. Great wine!

Very dark red/purple color, 2mm clear meniscus. PNP, split bottle over 3+ hours. What a lovely wine again, and a great last bottle. Beautiful nose with pencil shavings, cassis, bramble, florals, black cherry, savory, subtle earthiness and hints of licorice. The palate is medium full bodied, poised, plum, cassis, bramble, cherry, dusty and nicely integrating tannins, good texture and depth, cedar, long finish. Delicious...the last thing I wrote was a note to myself to find more. 93+pts.

I cannot remember this wine exactly, but I do remember that it was a bit vegetal and showing signs of age when it was popped. After 30 minutes, most of the vegetal characteristics of this one died off. I remember a good fruity blackberrry backbone. Last 10% of the bottle with fine grit tannin. Sediment on the shoulder. Good wine. Not a memorable Trilogy, but I think it was drinking better in 2013 when we had it last. Possible signs of decline? I think probably so. Done by 2018 or 2019.

The wine looks inky colored. The legs are slow. There is light sediment in the bottle. It smells like black currant (cassis), lead pencil and meaty. It tastes like black currant (cassis), dust and cherry. The body is full. The wine has leathery texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has low acidity.

{magnum} Good wine? Good bottle? Uh, only if it's a good cork/seal. And in this case, once I removed the capsule, there were already some signs of sweet-sticky leakage. Removed the cork using an Ah-So, and I find it's completely soaked through; as soft and spongy as it gets.
Not deterred, I pour a few ounces and it's perfectly fine (or not spoiled, anyway), though I'm really glad I (randomly) pulled this mag for service when I did.
Medium ruby core, gently faded to the rim. Super-fragrant nose of bright red currants, tobacco leaf, pencil lead and peppercorn. The nose is a bit of concern now that it's had a few minutes in the glass, as aromas are falling off, precipitously. A quick taste confirms I got really lucky opening this today and not a few years from now. It will be enjoyable tonight, but it won't be as good as it might have been if the seal had been correct. Medium-full bodied, well lifted and tasty at 62F (passive) cellar temp. Ripe, sweet tannins and EtOH both fully integrated. 14,2% abv., held since release, and served non-blind.

Decanted about four hours. Drinking near perfectly. Good structure, slightly sweet, expectable California mix of fruit, lengthy finish. First and foremost this reinforced my conviction on the value of decanting nearly every red and I'm not sure which red I wouldn't.

This is ageing quite slowly. Color remains youthful, while the nose is full of attractive secondary qualities, but less attractive EtOH, too. On the medium-full body, it's the same story, developing; acids remain pretty lively. Perhaps another 3-4 years before the onset of some tertiary aspects that might be able to render this as interesting. But as it is right now, it's simply a style I've long since moved away from. To its credit, there is some underlying material/structure here for favorable development. For what it is, it's good to very good; my New World-loving friends plundered the bottle dry in record time. 14,2% abv, thru 2021

Outstanding. One of very few domestic wines I will drink. Excellent balance and ready to drink but will still age for a while. Previous notes apply. Unfortunately I drank this at a Xmas party so there are no formal notes.

Very dark red/purple color. PNP, drank 2 glasses on two consecutive nights. The nose is as lovely as it was 3 years ago, showing lots of damp earth, funk, crème de cassis, leather, blueberry, mulberry, cedar. The palate shines with its beautiful fruit, multi-layered with crème de cassis, mulberry, plum, earth, graphite, and dusty tannins. The oak is nicely folded in here. Well balanced and showing a nice long finish. This was a treat.

Slow-O 2 hours, served non-blind. Medium ruby, gently faded to the rim. Smoke, damp soil, crushed red berries, v/a, green tobacco. With just a few minutes of air, some ripe cherry notes move in, followed by spearmint, and oak spice. Solid first attack, very lively acids, still a little hot. Flavors of raspberry, cherry, red licorice. Finish is a little shorter than I'd preferred, as was the breadth of fruit. Perhaps in 3-4 years this will have some interesting tertiary development. At the moment, good toward very good. 14,2% abv, thru 2018

I have always loved Trilogy ever since my first bottle of 92 in 2007. This one is no exception...granted this probably won't go 10-15 years but still a beauty. 2 hours decanted for the usual sediment. Nose is gravelly black cherry, concentrated raspberry, shale, brambles and herbs. There is just the slightest hint of age at the edge but the color remains beautiful, but not quite dense - this is not an overly oaked, overly extracted blend. Palate is shows well integrated tannins, restrained fruit, shale, earthiness and the ever sought after Rutherford dust. Finish is moving to the back seat, has decent length and there is still enough youth to carry some fruit 20+ seconds. This is an older wine by its profile but carries that age with aplomb. Two more bottles and a year or two ahead. Enjoy with decanting.

I have loved past bottles of 2005 Trilogy, but thought at first this one was over the hill (which has happened to some other of my Cal Cabs). In fact it took about 2 hours after decanting to become really good, and even then maybe not as lovely as a year or 2 ago. If I had any more, I would drink them now while still enjoyable.

This was a great little wine. Enjoyed tonight and I'll tell you right now this bottle found its stride. This wine was enjoyed with a citrus chicken with tomato and avocado salsa and was the perfect complement. Uncorked to a cherry stain with 1-2 mm of bleed all the way around. Decanted more for possible sediment. Poured a dark garnet color into the glass but didn't seem to be overly dense. The wine was ridiculously aromatic from the start. That Rutherford dust was very present, along with an earthy punchy berry note. The wine itself was earthy from the start, displaying a lot of course blackberry and a "dirty black licorice" with a very northern Rhone composition that carried to mid-palate. The wine was a little more dense than it seemed in the mid-palate. It was expressing a little vanilla in addition to some very dense berry. The finish was lightly oaked, earthy, very good. Made me want more. Didn't really have much sediment at all. I am not too pleased with the newer "composition" of the Trillogy wines being 80+ percent Cab, and think that it will take away from that "old world" character that these wines have displayed. I think that you could hold this for another few years, but the right time to drink is right now with 30 minutes of decanting at the most.

Maybe I had an off bottle b/c my experience was not the same as others. It was awfully green and tight. Green pepper & pencil shavings dominated aroma. Fruit fading. Vanilla prominent on the palate. Decent acidity. Not horrible by any means, but overall just ok for me and actually not as good as the '03 I had a few weeks ago.

Startes with an expressive nose unique to mature Napa Cabernet. Light notes of dried rose on the palate slowly build up to a distinct boysenberry, with a hint of black tea. There is only a nuance of fruitiness left, and the tannins that used to be a bit sharp have receded. Age has really improved this wine. A supremely refined wine drinking perfectly.

Aerated to decanter 90 minutes. In stark contrast to the bottle I had only last month, this was totally on point, with a vibrant full body, lively acids, and awash in red currants, camphor, loam, milk chocolate and marjoram. Great showing on the night. 14,2% abv, drink thru 2019

Aerate to decanter, immediately returned to bottle to serve 3 hrs later. Not the best showing here, with a low-level funk and slight brettyness that detracted from the overall experience. Not something I've seen before in this bottling, and not something I really expect to see again. All in all, this has been very successful at its price-point since the '08 release. 14,2% abv, drink thru 2017

A bit tight until decanting allowed it to open up. Very perfumed and aromatic with gobs of layered and complex fruit. Soft tannins and lower alcohol presence. Paired lovely with a New York strip and topped off a great evening. Great blend with spice box and gorgeous flavors.

Initial P & P impression - a bit hot, earthy and tart. After 1hr in decanter, opened up, earthy became dusty, alcohol blew off and fruit stated to come through. Balanced acidity. Left 1/2 bottle overnight in covered decanter; became more integrated - dark fruit flavors, vanilla, apricot; soft tannis, medium body and medium-long finish. Overall, very nice and an appropriated QPR.

Had this Trilogy a year and a half ago ....wasn't ready. In fact, I wondered if they had some how really missed on this one. Had It again last night and it was a differet wine. Great clarity and bright napa fruit with a dash of spice in this very sexy wine. Everything is in balance and she has a long, sensual finish. Definately ready, as in right now! Flora Springs does it again....terrific California blend.

PnP. Medium ruby core, no sign of age. Initial aromas suggest that this is ready for business - cracked pepper, raspberry, cherry and tea leaves. The lighter side of full-bodied, this has ample acidity and a very open-knit, inviting style. Tightens up with 30 minutes of air, but then relaxes and proves a good, but not great food wine. 14,2% abv, drink thru 2016, score: B+

Nat cork. Cloudy but bright edged dark red coloring. A pretty nose with notes of cedar and plum. On the palate greeted by dark fruit, black currant, rich and smooth with a bit of kona coffee. Medium to full bodied, tannin approachable but providing good structure and time to go if you have more bottles. Threw light sediment. Overall very pretty, classy and classic. Enjoyed.

Dark Red/Purple Color. Aerated and decanted 1 hour. This is a STUNNING wine. The nose is fabulously complex and displays cedar, coffee, chocolate, florals & spice, followed by classic Bordeaux earth tones; and then there's the fruit, creme de cassis, blackberry , and plum. The palate is rich and multilayered. The ripe fruit is balanced nicely by the earth, cedar, and tannins. The tannins are really nice, full, but very round and well integrated. This wine has a long, long finish. This paired exquistitely with Kona rubbed dry aged sirloin at Capital Grille. 94-95pts.

$69 Ohio. Ouch except this was given to me as a birthday gift. Ruby/purple in color. The nose has cedar, cassis, cherries, cocoa and vanilla. Full bodied. On the palate, this is young and needs air. Nice cassis flavors. A lot of oak, but will probably integrate with some time. Nice fruit. At $70 there are lots of alternatives, but this is very nice. Decanted an hour or so before consuming. Floral/herbal nose with cedar and oak, some red fruit hiding in there with some earth. Palate is smooth with fine dusty tannins, with cassis and cherries coming forward. Strong lengthy finish of cedar, vanilla, and coffee with a little cigar box. Pleasant, balanced, complex blend, that was fantastic with steak. Stronger oak influence than I would prefer, but I think this will integrate better in the medium term.

Very young but showing quite well. A touch grapey on the nose with some oak, but with air, this really became nice. '05 Napa Meritage Blind Tasting (Campobello, Anchorage): Tasted blind. I chose this as the best wine of the lineup, as did the majority of the panel. At first, a touch of brett. Could it be Bordeaux? No, but at first it definitely had a touch of earthiness, brett, and cedar. Dried figs and currants sneak through with spices, mocha, and cassis. Very rich, full bodied and powerful, yet with refined tannins that are not overwhelming. Nicely balanced with a burst of fresh berries and acidity. Fantastic wine.

Enjoyed last night with good CT friend neighborbill for dinner with pasta. Really excellent, decanted for 2 hours - already very good and complex but this has so much potential for further development in 3-5 years. Smooth, well balanced, good mouth feel, medium aftertaste. Floral nose with vanilla, blueberry and allspice. Primary flavors noted of cassis, oak, black pepper, tobacco box and aftertaste of smoke. Highly recommend this although too expensive to be a good QPR and as noted above if drunk now needs to be decanted.

Picked it up on a whim at the PA state store where it's available for $35. Decanted w/aerator and have been drinking over the course of the last three hours. Beautiful plum dark color, no overwhelming oak or fruit rather a very balanced blend of tastes that also included some vanilla and tobacco. Virtually no tannins. It was a good pairing with pork chops might have been left slightly behind by a well seasoned steak. It's still drinking nicely with some chocolate and tobacco tastes coming through.
Here's the problem. At $35 it's a good buy and hold for a couple of years. However, Wine-Searcher has it for as much as $70 and the average CT price is $45. It's a good wine, not a great wine. To me $70 is ridiculous unless it's going to evolve in the bottle beyond what seems likely. $45 seems fine though not any kind of deal while the $35 I paid seems about right. Maybe I'm just justifying my expenditure.

Not exactly sure why I opened this mag so early, but at least I opened it the day before the event and double-decanted it. This shows very young coming from the mag and had lots of leafy green notes with bell pepper and black peppercorn dominating the primary nose. The fruits came out on day 2 and it drank superbly late into the evening. Terrific acidity and balance. Very long finish. approx $175. I'll open the next one in 5 or more years and drink the 750's in the meantime.

I was at the Trilogy release party in Feb '08, and the wine has progressed nicely since that time - it's drinking well sooner than I'd expected. Superb balance. Not quite elegant right now, but that will undoubtedly come with some bottle age. Terrific acidity and a rich, layered palate. I've enjoyed Trilogy back to the early 90's and this is a stunner. Approximately $65 and worth it. Drink thru 2020

Great wine!

Left 1/2 bottle overnight in covered decanter; became more integrated - dark fruit flavors, vanilla, apricot; soft tannis, medium body and medium-long finish. Overall, very nice and an appropriated QPR.

Beautiful red, blue and black fruit intermingle on the nose with crushed rock, lavendar and spice box in a nicely scented bouquet. Layered in the mouth with medium to full body. Sweey tannin with gorgeous purity and length.

If I owned any, I would decant for a few hours prior to serving. 50+4+13+17+7=91

Garnet red in color. Cedar, tobacco, mint and lead shavings on the nose. Cassis and plum, with healthy volume of oak on the palate. Finish is full of pepper. Tannins are quite firm. Really enjoyable and good value at $40 price point.

Very young but showing quite well. A touch grapey on the nose with some oak, but with air, this really became nice. Not intensely concentrated or complex, but it had a greater elegance and sense of place than many wines from Napa. Plush in the mouth without seeming too rounded. Strong finish with good tannic structure. A-

Loved it. Earthy dark fruit with some peppry spice and an underlying beam of oak. A bit of barnyard funk, especially upon opening, that I had no problem with, though my wife found it off-putting.

Fantastic wine.

first Trilogy I have had since the marvelous 96 and I think this may have similar potential. it's too early to drink this now without decanting but it has a lovely nose of red and black fruit, vanilla and spice. Good medium to fulll bodied flavors, sweet tannins and a medium long finish. Hold for 3-5 years.

taste: pretty feminine feel with plush texture that gives tones of berries, florals, red cherries, and red currants. good balance and purity of flavors
overall: a really good feminine styled california bordeaux blend. Well balanced and perfumed with nice soft tones

Big bold luscious meritage. I had never had Trilogy before, and though I enjoyed it, I dunno, I was expecting something more. Would drink again, but wouldn't buy again, there is much better out there at this price point.
