Soft black fruit initially on the nose with herbs. Palate is v dry and chewy tannin noted though so so integrated. Great structure. Almost chocolate on the finish but the primary fruit is fading. Certainly more tertiary notes of leather, meat and herbs but it still has a sweet edge.
The finish is long and balanced with everything ending at the same time.
I know Chianti shouldn't taste this good at 15 years but this does.

Medium ruby color, red cherries, strawberries, leather, balsamic, very nice mouthfeel, medium body, well integrated acidity, looooong finish. One of the best regular Chianti I have ever drunk.

This bottle showed much better than the previous one that I opened a while back. Still holding up with ripe and sweet fruit core. Balanced with soft tannins. Drink soon.

No formal TN. This is my last of 3 bottles of this wine. lastr tasted 3 yrs ago, I gave it 91 pts. Probably hanging at 90-91 still. Perhaps a bit less fresh, but overall delicious food wine. Drink up.

great nose of wild dark raspberry and deep forest floor; still has plenty of fruit with a full mid palate; great acidity that is slightly coarse. Decant for sediment. Still really good.

Last bottle from a case that I only spent $20 per bottle for. This is still very good, but has lost a bit of its earlier intensity. It is time to drink up. Tannins have become more prominent.

Score coloured by rather obvious and slightly rough tannins. In this bottle they somewhat overran the fruit. Very dark ruby. Black cherry and blackberry fruits. Earth and spices. Not the longest either. More time or some chunky protein I suspect.

This 9 yr old CC is really hitting it's stride. 14.5% abv, med puplr at the core fading to a light purple rim, showing a hint of amber. Nose of red tart cherry pit, leather, cooking spice, and wet gravel. The palate shows a med+ bodied wine with really nice up-front tannins that are astringent and still quite grippy. Flavors of sour red cherry, menthol, pipe tobacco, blueberry compote, and rocks. The finish is nice but slightly clipped after 15 secs. This wine begs for charcuterie or pasta with a slightly spicy red sauce. Drinking beautifully now, and nowhere near dying off, it is at it's apogee and will likely stay there through 2020. Delicious.

Great mature Chianti. Seems in a very good place, lots of spice, and tobacco, and leathery notes, but no shortage of fruit. Everything seems in balance, and the acidity is in check (unlike the 2011). Not super concentrated, but very easy to like, and the sort of wine I can drink all year round. Stunning QPR.

Decanted; light sediment; first tasted an hour later. Bright cherry red color. Modest nose of dark fruit and tar. Classic Sangiovese on the palate, medium bodied, tart dark berries, well balanced by acids and tannins. Long pleasing finish. A well-made wine that is probably at its peak but should be quite drinkable for another couple of years.

This is good stuff. Sour cherry, damp earth, plenty of grip from the acids and tannins. A slight bit of Brett which gives it some leather and gaminess too. Nice bite on the finish. This is the 6th of 12 bottles. Lot 159. Really delicious. Should hold for years.

Probably at peak right now, with the perfect mixture of the remnants of its youth and some more interesting secondary/tertiary elements. Still a medium-dark brick red at the core, with really pretty aromas of leather, horsehair, dusty sage, mushrooms, cedar and soil. Not tiring on the palate, though it seems the acids are likely to outlive the fruit. This medium-bodied, red-fruited, classic effort is best consumed now or in the next few years. 14,5% abv is completely resolved. recommended
Aerated to decanter 45 minutes, served non-blind.

Lovely bright fruits, a lightly earthy edge, some spice too. Delicious earthy red and black currants, cherry pip, some mulberry herbasceousness. Lovely weight, good acidity, full and very long with lots of fine furry tannins. Coiled power despite its age, clearly a classy wine.

Much more savoury than the 2009 we drank it with. Bright with some bricking, deep colour. Lovely cherry, leather and lavender nose. Fine tannins, refreshing acid, cherry, plum in the mouth followed by red then dried fruit (almost raisin) in a very good Fontodi style long finish. Lovely.

Cor rubi/ granada.

Weird bottle. Very tight and ungiving on Days 1 and 2. On Day 3, much better wine in the vein of my more recent bottles. This wine apparently needs some decanting for best performance and may have a longer life than I anticipated.

Blind tasted. Nose showed Italian style, black cherry, mushroom, sage, dried red cherry, forest floor, black plum. More black fruit than I would guess for Sangiovese, which led me to right bank Bordeaux. Should have trusted the nose... nice wine though.

Dark red/purple with very slight bricking at the edges. Aromas of figs/dates/balsamic. Medium bodied on the palate, with flavors of dark red fruits and tannins that are texturally integrated but are still a bit drying on the finish. Good acidity, and seems to have the structure to age further, but I lack the experience with aged chianti to say what this might turn into. I feel like this might be in a slightly awkward phase, with the baby fat fading but secondary characteristics not fully formed. Nice wine though, and well enjoyed with grilled pork.

Bravo!

PnP served non-blind, consumed over 2 nights. So. Very. Thankful. that this was good to go on a PnP. The original wine I'd pulled for the dinner ended up being corked, so this was pulled at the last minute. While not as fully expressive on the nose as I would have liked, it was nonetheless very fine on the medium toward full-bodied palate. Its seamless nature and somewhat forward style (and part of that is the vintage, too) worked famously on the night with homemade spaghetti and homemade meatballs. The palate was more enjoyable than the nose on night #1. This is in a very good spot now and there's no reason to wait. None. A 30 minute decant should be all you need. BUT, be sure to serve at cellar temp. This is one of those finicky wines that changes (and not for the better) as it goes past 68F. Really singing at the 2 hr mark, and just as good (half of the bottle was left) on day 2. I really wish I had a 6-pk of Mags, this is good, but clearly one to enjoy in its youth. 14,5% abv, thru 2015

Very similar to last note. This is a pretty tight and focused CC. Dark red. Smells of cherry, damp earth and a bit of tar. Tastes the same in a big structured way. Excellent for $20. Should have bought a case instead of 6. I'm not sure this will last until 2018 unless it needed more than the 3 hours it was open to show its stuff. Some cherry on the palate, nose of sangiovese.

Very good. Red fruit, though on the darker side for Chianti. A bit of leather and some grip. Very nice balance. Somewhat modern in style, but I think only those on the most traditionaliist end of the spectrum would not like it.

Originally opened 10/20/12, tasting note from half of the remaining bottle, left corked at cellar temperature, 2-3 days later. Color is med ruby, fading to light ruby at the rim. The nose has really opened up from a few days ago, showing med(+) intensity of a bouquet of fresh roses, joined with strawberry and tart cherry fruit, with a nice undercurrent of rocky minerality. On the palate, this medium bodied, dry wine has lovely structure, nicely integrated tannins that are still firm yet rounded in the mouth, and firm med(+) acidity, making it a nice match for food. The flavors show mostly sour cherry and strawberry fruits, a bit of earthy and savory flavors including wet soil and sweet tobacco, leading into a well-balanced finish that is med length, with red fruit and minerals. This wine is drinking well now, and will continue to drink well for the next 7 years or so. Very, very nice Chianti.

Black cherry nose with vanilla and oak; elegant palate with fresh cherry fruit and lots of oak barrel spices, nice gentle acidity, soft texture but a bit rough on the finish where some oak tannins add a slightly bitter note. A little overdone in terms of the oak for my palate but still a nice Chianti Classico with excellent fruit. Should hold well several more years. - 88 points

Another great showing for this vintage. Absolutely beautiful nose that screams Chianti. Very luscious, succulent fruit, almost creamy mouthfeel at first. A pretty hardcore Chianti structurewise, still very tight. Definitely on its way up, probably hits its peak in 3-5 years and will drink well at least the next 10 years (yes, pretty ageworthy for a CC normale). Very dry, sour and salty while still having great weight and lots of ripe cherry fruit. Right after popping all about bright sour cherry, with 2h in the decanter the nose develops beautiful aromas of leather and poo. Great stuff, great value.

Very good example of Chianti. On the nose, a little mute at the moment but sour cherry. On the palate a good concentration of refreshing sour cherry and tobacco leaf, softened slightly by a hint of oak and butter, but not overdone. A good length on the end palate, perfect!

Yes, its true I am giving a much higher score on this bottle than the previous 2 bottles. On this bottle, I opened it 3 hours before supper, followed by a Venturi aeration. It opened up dramatically and was just so much better. The previous bottles seemed too dry and this aeration really seemed to smooth it out.

Bottle #7 for me. This showing was consistent with the others, which have all been 89-91 points for me. Traditionally styled, red-fruited Chianti Classico that makes for a great food wine.

Upon opening I was greeted with an earthy odor. The wine was medium red in color. I used a Venturi for aeration and drank immediately. It had flavors of cherry and cassis and was smoother than many chianti's. It was not as acidiac as I usually encounter with Italian reds. A great bottle and I have 4 more!

Upon opening, any fruit on the nose was submerged beneath the smell of damp earth/barnyard/vegetables. However, after a very long decant the wine opened up sour cherry flavours and a floral note. Medium body, quite acidic even for sangiovese.

The final and the best bottle; very pleasant, ripe and juicy but with good lift. Some glycerine feel on the palate and some tannins on the finish. When this warmed up to room temperature it got a touch disjointed with the alcohol sticking out a bit. But this was just a great match with lamb shanks.

Brought my bottle to Restaurant Week launch at Capricci. Upon opening, classic nose of sangiovese red cherries emerge, though relatively muted. On the palate, this is dense, as good Chianti Classicos are, and with good structure. A few bitter and woody notes in the aftertaste at the beginning, but this soon faded as the wine breathed. Thoroughly enjoyable but with an elegance that keeps things interesting. Finish is a bit short though. Chianti Classicos are one of my favourite food wines for their versatility, acidity to go with food and savoury qualities; this is an excellent example, from a great Tuscan producer in a very good, ripe vintage in Chianti.

This is a delicious, lip smacking juicy Chianti. It seems more rich and full than the '06 which is also terrific, but in a more structured way. Dark red, almost Cab like. Smells of damp earth, dusty tannins with a whiff of cherry. Lovely cherry fruit, some earth, with some underlying hints of leather and tar. Tannins take a back seat to the fruit and acids. There is a certain floral aspect here along with a hint of tea. Very interesting.

Aerate to decanter 2 hours. Garnet toward brick red color, no sign of age. Aromas were clean at first, but after a few minutes deep notes of sulphur, stewed cabbage and barn funk moved in. After 2 hours in of aeration in the decanter, all of the less attractive aromas were gone. In their place, some cherry, leather, notes of resin and herbs. Medium-bodied palate with fresh acidity. Avg complexity, very primary. Average finish. Not as clean as I would have liked. 5 years of bottle rest are in order. Drink thru 2017, 14,5% abv, score: B/B+

Really nice showing. I was worried, as the last bottle had a streak way up the cork, but this was fine and, in fact, was the best bottle of 4 consumed to date. Classic chianti aromas and flavors of mildly tart cherry and tobacco, with some additional floral notes on the nose. Good acidity gives a lift on the finish.

Spent 1,5h in a decanter. Dark purple, with some bright red on the edges. Dark cherry, smoke and some leather on the nose. Full bodied with good, fitting acidity, leaving a pleasant dry mouthfeel. Plenty of dry dark cherry and some nice minerality on the palate. Creamy texture. Succulent, well structured and craving for some food to calm the acidity down. A rich, luscious CC that is in no way over the top. Definitely a wine for simple, unpretentious dishes.

The perfect Chianti normale: a nip of acid, a scrape of tannin, and a glassful of sour-cherry fruit. Pure p[leasure. Benefits from decanting or opening well in advance at this stage. Or keep a couple more years of you want to pop 'n' pour.

Med+ deep ruby. Initially smoke and bacon on the nose, then bright red fruit cleans its way through. Intense on the palate, quite fruity yet far from vulgar, already complex though still very young: red berries, earthy notes, slightly metallic minerality, some spice. Very promising, if only oak integrates better, which is a little bit too obvious now. Long, complex aftertaste.

Didn't show quite as well as my last bottle (6 months ago), but was still a very fine sangiovese. Or, maybe it was my mother-in-law that detracted from my enjoyment? ;) In any case, plenty of life left in this one.
Big fan of this producer. Full, thick profile with red fruit and leather. Had the 06 recently and feel this was just a notch below. Will be interesting to see if this preference for 06 Tuscans - Brunello, ST - continues to be true.

A lot of wood; nose and structure very simple. I don't understand, why a 2007 Chianti Classico can't be consumed in 2011. I don't want to store Classicos for 6 years before being able to drink it.
(Just look at the San Giusto Chianti Classico 2009: Perfect balanance, deep, wonderful bouquet. However: Hard to get.)
Would not buy it again.

Nose: A little tight on the start but when it opened up, boy oh boy, was this one concentrated young Chianti Classico. Black fruit, tar, earth notes and the typical iron/blood notes. Lots of depth and power.
Taste: Still very young and definitely a good representation of the 2007 vintage for Chianti Classico. Good concentration of fruit with a beautiful tannin structure and well balanced. Need to find more of this. Paired very well with the range of Italian dishes ranging from Lardo to Guinea Fowl.

PnP. Dark brick-red core, lively reflections. Perfumed aromatics are very primary still; plenty of terroir driven notes that give way to more fruit driven aromas with 5 minutes in the glass. Great typicity on the palate, with solid structure for an '07. A welcome touch of bitterness amidst the berries and acids. Only 4 bottles remain, I may have to look for more. 14,5% abv, drink thru 2018.

The Italian Wine Masters (Hilton, 1335 Avenue of the Americas, New York): The 2007 Fontodi Chianti Classico showed woodland aromatics with undergrowth and hint of evergreen ushering in its red fruits. On the palate, it showed its grace through light, yet well focus red fruit with hints of tobacco and a bit of drying tannin going into the medium finish. Ultimately, this wine may need to be accompanied by food to reach its apogee.

14,50% alc., purple youthful color. from the pop & pour viewpoint, this wine doesn't give you too much. This wine needs some time and air. But then it reveals some sour cherries, along with some mediterranean spice, also with some leather, sharpened pencil and blood, everything built on an underlying freshness. On the palate this wine is concentrated, with extracted fruit (a little too much for me), earth, leather, grippy tannins and a considerable acidity; enjoyable finish, but not special. Without doubt, this wine has potential and you can keep and revisit this for the next 7 years for sure with interesting and improved results. I like this wine, but it is also kind of uniform - too less character. I personally tend more to this (but: I like acid!): http://www.cellartracker.com/wine.asp?iWine=748146

Youthful and vigorous, the nose of high-toned cherries, with damp earth, spice, and tobacco on the fringe, becomes more expressive with air. Medium-to-full bodied mouthfeel, with bright red fruit on the entry palate, and dark cherry/orange zest on the finish, supported by a nice, albeit slightly harsh tannic structure and ample acidity. While a fan of Fontodi, this might not be my favorite vintage (but it’s early for this one too – will revisit in a year or two).

The wine has a medium ruby colour. On the nose the wine is medium in intensity with notes of sour cherry and cedar. On the palate the wine is dry, high in acidity, with medium to high levels of tannins and a full body. There are flavours of sour cherry, butter and cedar. The wine also has a richness highlighted with perhaps plum flavours, possibly Cab or Merlot in the blend? The wine’s length is medium to long. This is a very good wine, well balanced with good concentration both on the nose and palate.

Opened 6/23. Bordeaux style, Chianti is, let's just say, a distant flavor profile. This is a powerful "Parker targeted" firm blend. Yes there's Sangiovese in here, it's just that there's some Cab, etc. Nice earthy and dark fruit nose. Taste is Cab blend, some Sangiovese and a subtle tartness. A great bottle of wine, but needs a bit more time in the bottle, or lots (1-2 hrs) of decanting. True to Chianti, I can't see it.

Med+ deep ruby. Initially smoke and bacon on the nose, then bright red fruit cleans its way through. Intense on the palate, quite fruity yet far from vulgar, already complex though still very young: red berries, earthy notes, slightly metallic minerality, some spice. Ultimately, this wine may need to be accompanied by food to reach its apogee.

from the pop & pour viewpoint, this wine doesn't give you too much.
