My friend, GODX, nailed the description of this bottle we shared yesterday in his note below...so I have no further descriptors to add. But I will add one point to his score, as for me this was a 95. Really super wine!

This was a bit shy at first, taking some time to come out of its shell, but after 30min the glass it began to uncoil and offer up classic 08 crunchy red fruits, hints of underbrush with a fresh and transparent profile. Throughout the course of the evening (4+ hours) this continued to unfurl, showing more depth and layers, but maintaining its high energy personality. This is very 2008 (a vintage which I have liked very much since the beginning) with tart red/berry fruit, high acid and minerality--classic cooler year Burgundy. In stiff competition, this showed extremely well and has a long and wonderful life ahead of it. 94+

Denis Bachelet's 2008 Charmes-Chambertin is very good with a beautiful bouquet of red berry, sous bois, and Gevrey soil tones. Good concentration to the wild berry and earth flavors with a uniform acidity that coats the mouth. Not the stellar bottle I had exactly a year ago today but very good nonetheless.

Fresh meadow grass and lots of vintage acidity, a much stronger performance than the somewhat muted 07 on the side. 93-94

Memorable with the chef’s saffron infused Sardinian couscous!
