"90th" Joint Birthday: Woody spices, blackcurrant, ash and strawberry. Palate has a burst of flavour, with good fruit weight still. Feels quite well balanced, this seems to have come around versus a bottle 15 years ago that was a bit clumsy.

Dark garnet to purple color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of alfalfa, black pepper, currants, spice box, camphor and rose petals. Flavors or red berries, cranberries, red cherries and minerals. Medium to bright acidity, drying tannin, full bodied. Drink now with some air or continue to hold.

I'm not sure this showed quite as well as the bottle we had last month, but it's still a really enjoyable wine. Needs a lot of time of course to find itself and this was double-decanted, but then rebottled and poured relatively quickly. Drinks pretty well though and certainly all of the normal complex Grange that changes constantly in the glass. I like it.

Four decades of Penfolds Grange (Chicago, IL): Corked. Very, very grippy tannins.

My birthyear. Colored by that maybe but dusty library with a hint of wet basement. The shiraz wasn't that present. Lovely glass
