One of the most unique wines I have had the pleasure to consume. Low shoulder, soft cork. Ah so puller started to push it down so resorted to a 'waiters friend' that managed to extract the cork with little damage tho it was soft as cotton. Thought it would be gone for sure. Never submitted to the Penfolds 'clinic'. Ruby brown colour, soft nose with hints of cigar box. Slight porty nose as well but not evident on front palate. Incredibly soft tannins, sweet fruit on front that grows to a lingering 5 minute+ finish. This is an amazing wine for a 50+ yr old Aussie shiraz. While it wont get better, its not on a cliff edge. Cork durability is questionable, but we lucked out. A true Aussie classic.
Reddish brown in colour, fruity aroma when decanted, after decanting for 2 hrs chocolate and tobacco came to life. Wine was well balanced with a smooth finish - great wine shared with great friends at Washington Grill in White Rock BC.
Brought to the Penfolds Single bottle dinner. Winemaker pronounced it the best example of 62 he had had. Being my first I would have to agree. Clearly containing a reasonable cabernet component this was a great wine which I would purchase again which says a lot as I am not a shiraz lover in general.
