Def better than prior bottles. Very smooth, some nice but mild oak flavor. Heat has been an issue in the past but nicely lifted after 45-60 mins in decanter.

We all surprise how easy approachable this wine was. Jim brought this to the Italian wine theme dinner and it served so well. We all thought it was Masseto of good vintage and found out it was another Italian Merlot, bold, full body, smooth, aromatic and long after taste. It can be approached now.

Three vintages of Redigaffi side by side. 2000/2010/2015. No detailed notes taken. I was underwhelmed by all three wines as all of them showed a touch too ripe but especially as all three wines showed alcohol heat towards the finish, which I particularly dislike. In terms of complexity and definition the wines had good but not great levels. Best wine was the 2000 (94pts) which showed most layered with a good fruit core, earthy notes but not tertiary aromas yet, all embedded in a fine structure with a good velvety texture but a bit of heat. The 2015 (92pts) had an intriguing sweetness and good structural frame but unfortunately was a bit one-noted and showed most heat. I’ve had this wine in its early days after bottling and it showed amazing, far better, more complex and without the heat. Every bottle since was weaker than the previous on (from 97 pts to 95, to 94 and now 92). The 2010 (91pts) is muted with not much expression and complexity showing. It showed the least heat but also least interesting. Maybe it will open up again in a few years.
Decanting: All wines have been decanted for roughly 2 hours and needed the time to open up. The 2010 could have probably used more air.

Tasted double-blind as part of a Redigaffi mini- vertical (2000, 2010, 2015). Dense and concentrated with sweet raspberry fruit, herbal tea, sweet notes of sugar-coated berries, mineral complexity on earthy base. The palate shows impeccable balance and is harmonious and excels with vibrant acidity. Unfortunately I couldn’t help but note a bit of heat. This is layered and complex, but can’t quite keep up with the softness in texture that the best Merlots can show. That said, having tasted this before in 2018 and 2020, it feels like we are slowly but surely entering the drinking window here.
