PnP. Needs time to evolve but then showed its amazing complexity and elegance. Very muted in the beginning but after about two hours, intense dark fruit flavors came through. It was still dominated by the fruit, but also surprisingly spicy and savoury, with intense earthy aromas. I love it.
And what length!
Had it next to Smith Haute Lafite 12 and Domaine de Chevalier 95, and some Swiss Pinot Noirs (Unter der Linde 17 and Kloster Sion 13).

From magnum. We had this open 3 hours and got one tone of basic red fruit with maybe a hint of earth in the back. Maybe it needed 6-8 hours of air but we were not particularly impressed. Could have been a bad bottle.
Very good, but still oh so primary. This took 5 hours to begin to show its true colours. Deep dark fruit, blackberry, cassis, red cherry and a hint of raspberry laced with a hint of menthol and a touch of smoke. Tannins still a bit chewy on the finish. Not much secondary or tertiary development here. At 19 years old, I think this needs at least another 5-10 years to come into its own. 94pts

Coravin fun - Bordeaux (My place, Burwood): From Coravin. Blackcurrant, Crème de cassis, cedar, sweet spice, brambly underpin, tiny coffee note here. It's a little hard in the mouth; dense, concentrated, dark fruits are more savoury that expected based on the nose, tannins are tight and unyielding. Historic tastings of this vintage tells me that it needs more than 45 minutes in the glass to open up. Time.

Absolutely at the entrance of its drinking prime, the 2005 has gently stepped into the drinking window with just one foot while the other foot is still anchored solidly on the other side, providing structure and age ability. It was 3 hours after the fun had started when the real LB showed up to make a statement with its clear left bank demeanor and its Pauillac feel, shining in graphite and unsmoked tobacco. Really muscular underneath still, with great tug and pull, this has the ability to age and in my opinion, surpass the 2000. A relative bargain in the Bordeaux/Pauillac/2005 world. Drink or HOLD
