A singe bottle lot upper shoulder with good label bought in auction. The first 64 I've had in nearly 20 years. Expecting the worst but was pleasantly surprised. Violet nose at first then bloody and finally liquorice. Still a decent colour and good length. Slightly sweet, which is typical of the vintage. There are better 64's, I recommend Latour or Picon Lalande. Enjoyable with that slightly attenuated (oxidised) palate like a traditional Rioja.
PnD. Brick red, yellow rim, 4. To begin with reserved bouquet that opened up after 30min into a complex bouquet with oriental spices, pencil as well. Harmonious well balanced, elegant palate that end up into a pencil finish. Drink now or wait. What a surprise. I have tasted this wine a number of times over the years and this is the first really fine specimen. Thanks Hans.
