BYOB lunch in The Spectator boardroom hosted by Jonathan Ray (The Spectator's drinks editor). Limited notes in the main! This was definitely past its best. Tired. Drink up!

Tasted annually for the last few years, the wine has been in its peak drinking window for the last 5 years. The fruit has started to recede over the last couple of years, and it has underperformed on the last two outings. However, this time saw the wine improved as it has developed secondary and early tertiary notes. The taste profile is as per previous, with fully resolved tannin, but now there is a real depth on the palate and finish. I think I have to eat my own words re my 2 previous reviews re longevity, as I think this still has a good decade of prime drinking ahead of it.

Wonderful right bank with a luxurious rich, plush nose and still some tannins that could resolve further. In a nice place between fruit, oak integration and developed tobacco notes. Falling just short of truly great.

(Château Pavie Macquin) Decanted for 45 minutes - dark red violet color; big, black fruit and herbal nose; rich, deep black fruit, tar and charcoal palate; medium-plus finish
