Simon Beatty’s memorial dinner, CSJ table (Noizé, London): Slightly, cloudy mid ruby to full garnet. Quite a lot of fine sediment in this pour. Cherry fruit, some spice, but more pronounced meaty notes that grow in the glass. A Vosne that wants to be Nuits. Lots of latent power and an earthy meaty loveliness. ****

My last bottle of this, pnp, a really perfect cork! Fragrance of red and dark fruit, plums in the foreground, spice, some forest floor, great silky mouthfeel, full of energy still, lively acid pairing ripe sweet fruit notes with some underlaying secondary aromas, flowered though, the flow on the mid palate is the pure finesse, full of energy, lingering and very convincing, great bottle, one of those a wine nerd is waiting for....., on top now, but imho another 5+ years easily to come if stored under good conditions, ****-*****

(Meo-Camuzet Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru "Les Chaumes") High-toned charry toast aromas on the nose. This will dissipate with age but was pretty offputting today. Hints of blueberry, raspberry, boysenberry and minerals. Creamy oak on the palatebut with great focus and concentration. Great sap and density. Needs time.

Bit of brett and band aid. Dark fruit with slightly dry finish. Classy, but still young.

Simon Beatty Memorial Dinner, Clos St Jacques table (Noizé, London): This has quite a decadent nose with wafts of cherry, violets and plenty of spice. Early maturity but it’s so easy to drink this wine, a hedonistic charmer indeed, very good
