  • Mature nose with a bit of bouillon, good complexity, some dark fruit, spices, and earth. Medium acidity with surprising amount of tannic structure on the palate, a bit more fruit notes, forest floor, tobacco, and iron. Good finish. Fascinating wine that probably would have been better 10 years ago. Still a joy to drink.

  • Top shoulder.
    Cork in remarkably good condition.
Label missing. Vintage confirmed by cork.
    Decanted just prior to serving.
    Hardly any sediment.
Very deep and youthful hue with minimal signs of aging.
Stunning aromatics with opulent red fruit, noticeable Cabernet Sauvignon character. Nice tertiary aromas accompanying the fruit.
The texture makes me think this must be the optimal time to drink this wine: soft, rich but also not lacking in tension.
    A treat...

  • Floral, with notes of forest herbs, cigar box, tobacco leaf, mint and red fruits, the wine is medium-bodied, soft, vibrant and spicy, with a kirsch and red plum edged finish. This was simply beautiful from start to finish. This is much better than a recorded bottle I tasted earlier this year. You know what they say, there are no great wine older wines, just great older bottles.

  • Zachy's La Paulee 2022 (Le Bernardin Prive): Blind. So incredibly fresh. Merlot-based, ripe vintage, supple and sweet; St. Emillon 1990/1982? Will this be immortal too? 95

  • 61s at 61 (Bourbon Steak, Aventura, Florida): This bottle was recorked in 2005, a fact not revealed until you pull the cork but highly suspected by the mid neck level. However they did it was not terribly successful though since despite the nice color it tasted too old and lacked vigor. On the positive side there was a pleasant eucalyptus note that peeked through the stemmy flavor. Fortunately, over several hours it became more harmonious and focused. Since other bottles can perform much better this one is not representative.
