  • Just magnificient. Do not drink it too fast, it has evolved quite a lot over 2-3 hours.

  • @ Nubiani NYC. WOTN. Very tertiary yet rich, gorgeous cherry preserves and mahogany on the nose, wine expands and gets bigger with an hour of air time. Sensual and rich velvet on the way down. Tannins are completely dissolved and integrated. Certainly an outperformer for the vintage.

  • Nose of tertiary, earthiness with black fruit. Extra layer of complexity on nose with oak/wood notes and hints of smokey tobacco.

On palate unripe strawberry, dark fruit, hint of slate minerals and wood.
Still feels relatively bright and young. Good tannins and structure with enduring Latour power too. Nice long finish showcasing its balance and complexity with black fruit, tobacco and wood.

Interesting to try a mature 'off vintage' First Growth, and this shone compared to the '97 Ch. Mouton I had had alongside. I'm satisfied to see that my thoughts on both are shared by many recent tasting notes here in CT. Still at its drinking peak and should remain there for a few more years to come.

    A great mature nose!👃

👄Sweet red berries, pencil shavings✏️, tobacco, forest floor, a hint of coffee.....

Very complex and a smooth finish that keeps you company for a loong time!!⏱️

  • On the rare occassions I’ve tried a first growth, and admittedly from lesser vintages, it’s not been power that makes them stand out, but impeccable balance, complexity of flavour and an understated length that doesn’t scream to be noticed, but clearly differentiates vs. the rest.

This was one of those, with a lovely mix of cassis, tobacco, mushrooms, a hint of graphite and truffle. Impeccably balanced on the palate, with lots of complexity and a length the creeps up on you but doesn’t let go, allowing you to savor the lingering tobacco and truffle for 30 seconds or more. Understated, but all class.

(Château Latour Grand Vin) Herbaceous nose; nice cassis, herbaceous palate with concentration; medium-plus finish
