  • I put my nose in this glass, made a face, and immediately took it out. Joly is such pain for me. Every time it’s been a complete intellectual exercise and this was no exception. Smelling this wine felt like walking into the malt room on Islay except they are malting almonds…tremendous amounts of almonds. Hint of wet dog? Peach?

I will say, this wine was bright and clear and didn’t look at all like it was from 1994.

  • Drank great right after opening - vibrant acidity with honeycombed pears and buttery passion fruit. It was lively in a way most 28 year olds are not.

Acid structure was pleasant and defined. The dry finish and smooth minerality made this go great with some iberico pork belly skewers and tuna katsu.

  • Bottle presented very well. Dried apricots, almonds, length, structure.

  • Coulée de Serrant - 1990 - 1999 and more Loire (Huet, Closel, Landron) (Home): Medium golden yellow. In the nose, there's ripe apricot, some botrytis. It's warm, bright and expressive. Grande. On the palate, it's not as good as in the nose. The wine is well-behaved, a bit flat, slightly watery. There's some acidity, but no minerality as in the other Coulée de Serrants. Everything's there, but the wine lacks the backbone to hold everything together. Not disappointing, but well below many other 90s vintages of Coulée de Serrant.

  • Deep gold color - like many CdS wines. Not as rich as others I have had but good acidity and freshness. Flavors of grape fruit, elderflower, vanilla and lime. Mineral , chalk and also an earthy musty smell. Slight botrytis taste, but a very dry wine. Typical CdS, but not as complex or rich as others. But also not oxidized and odd so easier to drink than some. Great food wine, like all Joly wines. Had it with a roasted garlic pork and it both cut through the fats and added a pleasant floral and citrus counterpoint to the meal. Very nice, and easier than some.
