  • Golden yellow. Still very fresh citrus and yellow fruit, honey and lanolin.
Palate has plenty of tension and body, the finish is fresh and mineral. Quite good length.

  • Nicolas Joly Coulee de Serrant 1962 - 1995: Day 1 - poured through Coravin:
Nicely fresh with honey notes, bouquet is bright. Very intense on the palate, but not overpowering. Quince peel, intensity.

Day 2 - the bottle is opened:
Gingerbread, tangerines and Christmas on the nose. Acidity is lower. Very intense and heady. Buldozer of a wine.

  • Open and drunk over two nights.

At first, this is tightly coiled, with far more rocks than fruit, with some subtle white florals, a very honey, lanolin, and aromatic green herb in the background. Saline and a sense of smelling rocks, all with great tension. It's razor sharp and precise on the palate with tremendous cut. The acidity gives it a freshness and mouthwatering feel. Over time some green apple and pear fruit emerge, but even with this , this is a soil and acid driven wine. Layered, multifaceted, but with everything drawn with fine, precise, understated lines, this is a beautiful rock driven wine with a lifespan likely measured in decades left. It finishes with a cool contrast of having incredible cut, yet it still is very long. This is for sure not for everyone. It is very stony and acidic, many would call it stern, but for me this is a terrific, singular, delicious, contemplative wine drinking at peak.
