Wine & Chinese on a Monday Night (Sun Wah BBQ, Chicago, IL): Golden color. In an oxidative style that's not my favorite but that I can appreciate. Layered with complexity/depth. Medium acidity with a honeyed/waxy profile. Clipped finish.

Rebecca's Welcome Dinner (Chicago, IL): I've never liked this style of wine. Oily, rich, waxy, and oxidative at the same time, and although there's so much acidity, it never serves to give lift to this wine. In fact, this just feels like old wine, when everything has started turning into acid. Pass.

This botte was in tremendous nick. It shows all sorts of blossom and lavender notes on the nose. There's a fleeting suggestion of green apple in the mouth then it turns to bitter orange. It has great shape and volume and is so pure and direct.

Gave it a long decant and it was humming by the time we got to it. It smelt like a toffee apple and there were also notes of crème brulee and lanolin. In the mouth it was rich with all sorts of appley, cidery tastes couples with some honey and toffee. A line of rapier acidity scythed through the wines heart and gave it rigid posture and great line.

Some basement notes on the nose, but it wiffs away with time. Simple on the palate. More on the nose than palate.
