  • Bordeaux 2022 en Primeur and some recent vintages: Great aromatics here too with dark cherry and menthol. A top wine (96-97).

  • Bordeaux 2022 barrel tasting event (Papiersaal Sihlcity, Zürich): Main takeaways: 1/ Despite a considerable amount of hype, this came across as bi-polar vintage with for every insanely good wine at least one dead-on-arrival counterpart. 2/ High alcohol levels, over-extraction and cooked fruit appear to be common pitfalls. 3/ Top wines were 1. Figeac (98), 2. Brane Cantenac (97), 3. Les Carmes Haut Brion (96). Full list of 20 wines and scores in included in the tasting story.

    Tasting note:
Ripe fruit profile with leathery complexity and marginal heat. This is a decent wine, but unusually concentrated and lacking elegance for Rauzan-Ségla. After a 4-year winning streak (since 2018) it seems they misfired a bit in 2022.

  • Dark in color, the array of floral notes shoot out with violets, lilacs, and roses. From there you find truffle, red and black fruits, cigar box and cedar also come through in the nose. While the perfume is catchy, it is on the palate where the wine takes off. Texturally, the wine is drenched in velvet. There is intensity, richness, and concentration, as well as weightlessness on the palate. With this wine, the seamless finish must be felt, as well as tasted. The wine is a blend of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot. This marks the highest percentage of Cabernet in the blend and with 17% press wine in the blend, it is the highest portion of press wine as well. 14.5% ABV, 3.7 pH. The harvest took place September 2 - September 28. This is the earliest start to a harvest for Rauzan Segla. Yields were 30 hectoliters per hectare. The Grand Vin was produced from 50% of the harvest. Drink from 2027-2065. 96-98 Pts.

Grandios! Ein Monument der Eleganz! 2030 bis 2060. (Verkostet "En Primeur" im April 2023 auf Château Rauzan Ségla / CVBG / Château Belgrave) #primeurs22 www.vvWine.ch
