Black fruit flavours with an almost “Cadbury fruit-like chocolate” on the palate. Surprisingly open for such a young BDX. This really is a beautiful wine that I suspect will stay open throughout its evolution and just continue to get better and better. Has me thinking about buying the ‘22s; if only, the price wasn’t such an increase from these ‘19s (CAD $220 CAD versus $150 CAD).

K&L Grand Bordeaux Tasting: This has a firmer structurer and more acidity than the '20 Rauzan-Segla I had before this. Less fruit-forward dark fruit and the tannins are more austere and drying. However, there is still that off-putting velvety texture, although it's lets unctuous than the comparatively fat '20.

K&L Bordeaux Tasting: 14.2% ABV. Medium ruby appearance. Similar cut to the ‘20 tasted next to it but with less herbaceousness. Black fruit, violets, anise, tobacco leaf, dark chocolate. Good acidity, elegant mouthfeel, with approachable tannins. Also feels a bit more dense and concentrated than the ‘20.

dark ruby colour. very perfumed nose with rose petals, white blooms, and herbs with the black and red currants, tobacco leaf, sandalwood and subtle earthiness. surprisingly open in the mouth, it feels juicy, fresh and supple. expressive fruit, spice and other complexities in the mid palate are already in display, anchored by dusty tannins. very good length.
a wine of finesse that already shows very well and should be very rewarding in (hopefully) a not-so-distant future.

Saturday Afternoon Bordeaux (K&L Wines, San Francisco): Deep ruby. Forward, fragrant perfume of green herbs. Ripe cassis entry with excellent acidity an herbal complexity. This is far ahead of the 2020 in terms of openness and complexity. Powerful but very elegant. I liked this a lot.

Splash decanted. Smooth and velvety—without a hard edge at all. Blue fruits with some violet highlights on the nose. Silky fruity palate. But nice brightness to balance. Very lengthy finish. Bordeaux 2019 (Dan Murphy's, Lane Cove): Biscuit, blackcurrant, violet, plums, cream, sweet spice, integrated oak, generous smelling. Juicy, fleshy, red and black fruit shows currants, plums, grippy, chewy tannins are slightly coarse flour textured, integrated oak gives a little dusty cocoa. Nice.

I enjoy this 2019 Rauzan Segla much more than the 2019 Lynch Bages. This is a Jeff Leve kind of wine, and I endorse his 97 point rating. It is 14.5%, but it is not giving me a headache. The first thing that jumped out at me about this wine was the bouquet even out in the air on the back deck. I see comments on cellar tracker describing this as ruby, granted, my eye sight is very bad, but I see opaque purple. I have posted a picture on my website, www.bordeauxwineenthusiasts.com, tell me how that is ruby as opposed to opaque purple. The wine was open from beginning to end, and only got better as dinner progressed. One of the best 2019s I've tasted (though it's no 2019 Montrose), best Rauzan-Segla ever? Rivals the 1986, though VERY differently styled. A stunning, stunning wine, ends up on the classy side rather than the slutty 14.5% profile. In the end, I'm enthusiastically with Jeff: 97 points. For me, it blows away the Lynch Bages from the 2019 vintage. I am thrilled to have five more bottles. Again, much thanks Mark Golodetz for linking me to Zachys at $75 per bottle, a very fair price for this outstanding 97 point Margaux appellation wine.

Medium-dark reddish garnet in color. Full, forward & fragrant nose of ripe fruits aromas of cherries, blueberries & cassis & plums with overtones of herbal & floral notes, spices, cocoa, earthy/dusty, coffee, tobacco, minerals & a hint of vanilla/oak. Full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, ripe fruit flavors of cherries, blackberries & plums with herbs, minerals, spices & vanilla/oak. Lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present with decanting & extended airing but should develop further with additional aging at which time it may merit a higher score (95+).

Decanted about half an hour. Dark purple, medium speed legs, on 👃 balanced earthy & fruits — wet forest floor, cinnamon, cigar box, blackberries, vanilla. Dry, blackberries & nectarines, medium/full body texture, grippy tannins, medium burn on throat. A young wine but good to drink now.
As wine opens up, fragrance evolved even more beautifully with lilacs, pines, wood, leather.

At Cork pop: Color is a beautiful royal purple. Nose of macerated blue berries and a woodiness of oak or mahogany with some earthy or mustiness like the smell of a wine cellar. Tannins chalky, but not harsh or drying. First sips felt a little warm. Medium in body and glides through the palate but not in a glossy way. Stony/mineral, menthol, cherry, red plum. Finish really lingers.
About three hours in, from decanter that I poured about 1/3 of the bottle into. A little less fruit on the nose with some eucalyptus coming out. Feeling more structured on the palate. A little more darkness to the fruit with some spice emerging, perhaps nutmeg and clove. Maybe a touch of heat, less than what I detected at pop and pour. A nice evolution so far even with a few hours.
No major changes in almost 24 hours in bottle: but some nice improvement for sure. The more menthol and cherry cough drop heavy finish has improved to one with more depth and the fruit lingers longer. Still might be a touch of heat but barely perceptible. I love the medium+ body, the acidity and the very present but not overpowering tannin.
So far I'd say this is a very solid wine. Rating now perhaps 93 as I can definitely drink this today and enjoy it - but it is clearly too soon. Rating in the future ?? - but I'm glad to have five more bottles. Will leave them for at least 3-5 years though.
UGC 2019 Singapore (Singapore): Much more concentration and depth here than the Prieure Lichine preceding it. Oak and tannins pretty well integrated but shorter than the best wines in 2019. 92-93

Union des Grands Crus: The '19 Rauzan Segla isn't as overtly winsome as prior vintages, but there's red cherry and a subtly-floral appeal. It will take time for the substantial tannin to integrate (more than the 2016 showed at this stage), but it shouldn't be a problem given 15+ years. 93+

Rauzan Segla vertical tasting, wine #1. Incredibly approachable, oozing with layered multidimensional concentration and vibrant freshness. Composed of 62% CS, 35.5% Merlot, 2% PV and 0.5% CF, aged 18 months in oak, 60% new. Medium+ ruby, purple hue. Silky, seductive and sensuous, the nose, with its blend of flowers, tobacco leaf, espresso bean, violets, roses and red pit fruits is already quite showy. Medium/full-bodied, fresh, vibrant, clean and pure, the fruit offers length, depth and complexity. But it will need a bit of time to fully express its essence. If you have a bit of patience, it will be worth the wait. Drink from 2030-2060.

Arvi Bordeaux 2019 Arrivage (Dolder Grand, Zurich): Tasting of 25 wines (2 whites, 3 sweet, no first growths) at a Bordeaux 2019 in the bottle event. My observations were: i/ the tannic structure was soft and well-integrated across the board, ii/ the fruit was generally fresh and light with no heavy-handed extractions, iii/ Top wines were Client (97), Léoville Barton (96) and Smith Haut Lafitte (96). More thoughts and list of wines included in the tasting story.
Tasting note: Nicely jammy red berry fruit /rhubarb), a bit of earth and also herbs. Quite grippy tannins, by far not as ready as 2018 fresh out of the gates, but again a highlight for the vintage. Pure, refined and elegant.

Bordeaux 2019 - 15 red / 2 white / 4 sweet wines: UCG Arrivage Tasting. A few observations on the red wines: 1) Overall quality: 2019 is indeed another great vintage for Bordeaux reds. The quality was good across the board. 2) Ripeness: 2019 is less ripe than 2015/2018. Out of 15 wines only one (Gazin) showed overripe. But 2016 still wins in this category with the freshest and purest fruit expression. 2019 is in between 2015/2016. 3) Complexity: 2019 will not reach the heights of 2016 but is almost on par with 2015/2018, although the latter one will need to flesh out for quite some time reveal all nuances. 4) Precision: I found superb precision in many wines, however, again not on the level of 2016. 5) Structural frame: The tannins are ripe and very fine, the acidity is generally high (but not as high as in 2016), the texture is nicely airy (unlike with many 15s/18s), no alcohol heat (a problem in 2018) and the wines are very harmonious. 6) Best wines tasted were a magical Canon (96+ pts), a superb Leoville Barton (95 pts). Unfortunately, they were all out of Pichon Lalande - supposedly one of the wines of the vintage.
TN: Rauzan Segla is stepping up its game this past vintages and this 2019 shows that again. Even if it‘s not on the same level in terms of complexity as the magic 2018 it has the same unbelievable elegance and is still quite layered, especially when compared to the Brane Cantenac we tasted right before it. Ripe dark and red berries, herbs and minerality on the nose. Good, round, medium+ expressive. A step up on the palate with this wonderful sweet but elegant fruit core with herbs, cola, stems, vanilla, minerality notes wrapped around it. Very good precision. Impeccable, superbly elegant structure with ultra fine tannins, medium high and perfectly integrated acidity, very light and airy texture and feel and good length. 94-95 pts.

2025-2045+ 96-98/100 vvPunkte vvWine.ch

Nicely jammy red berry fruit /rhubarb), a bit of earth and also herbs.
