Community Tasting Notes (5) Median Score: 95 points

  • Rich, intense, concentrated, sweet, racy, and lively, this has everything you want in a delicious sweet treat! Packed with honey coated yellow, and orange tropical fruits, lemon curd, vanilla, mango, and candied nuts from start to finish, the wine is zesty fresh, as well as sweet, and energetic. But it is going to be close to impossible to find, because production was decimated, with only 500 cases produced! Drink from 2025-2050.

  • 11x Bordeaux 2021: UCG Arrivage Tasting of just a handful of 2021 Bordeauxs. Some thoughts: 1) It's a very mediocre vintage. There is not enough substance, many wines seem simple. Especially on the Left Bank, the balance was a bit off (too much acidity, too many herbal notes, not enough fruit... and some showed greenness and drying tannins). 2) 2021 is being promoted as a vintage for "classic" Bordeaux lovers, a vintage for those who liked 2014 and 2017. In my opinion, 2021 does not come close to those vintages. 2014 is more structured, with better balance and often more depth. 2017 is much rounder, more balanced and a bit more polished. 3) We all know the high prices for 2021, so there's no need to chase them (they'll probably only get cheaper in the next few years). Here are some impressions on a few selected wines.

TN: Brief comment, no detailed notes taken. I didn’t like the nose here at all. Not much expression, no saffron but some green asparagus notes (maybe decanting would have changed that). The palate was better with fresh and sweet fruits and some botrytis notes. But Lafaurie doesn’t have the aroma profile I like in Sauternes.

  • Bordeaux 2021 Arrivage Tasting (Dolder Grand, Zurich): Fresh aroma profile, especially for a young Sauternes. Candid apricot, fresh mineral layer and fresh herbs. Rather low intensity overall, but precise and nuanced. Creamy texture with acidity adding a splash of much needed freshness into the finish.

  • (94-96 vvPunkte) Kräftiges Goldgelb. Florale Nase, sehr feinduftig, weisse Blüten, reife Quitte, Datteln, Aprikosen. Dourthe) vvWine.ch

  • Yellow tropical fruits dipped in honey, with flowers, oranges, lemon curd, vanilla, mango and roasted nuts. Fresh, sweet, racy and energetic, with touches of roasted white peach, overripe apricots and tropical fruits slathered in honey shine brightly in the mid-palate and in the finish. This is a sublime, sweet treat. Though it is going to be difficult to find as only 500 cases were produced! Drink from 2023-2050. 94-96
