Darker and more intense than the '90 Parusso Mariondino it was paired with, with slight bricking at the edge. My favorite of the two. Both showed beautifully with Bill's red wine braised veal cheeks.

Broad bricking on the rim. Still some dark red fruits on the nose along with earth, mushroom. old leather. More of same on the palate. Any rose petals have been dissolved by the tannin and acids. Finish was medium length and dry.

Although stored very well since its release, I was somewhat surprised at how good this was for a 23 year old bottle. A big, muscular, mouth-filing barolo with notes of chocolate and tar and leather. Though fully mature, this bottle still has enough fruit to stand up to the rich, mature tannins and has a few years life left.

(Pio Cesare Barolo Ornato) Group's #5 (my #3) – 103 pts.; 5, 2, 4, 2 – earth and sandalwood nose, with a green note; tobacco, leather, tart red fruit and high acid, much like a mature Right Bank Bordeaux, with a mint note and sweet tertiary flavors; medium finish 92+ pts.

Medium red with brown edges. The oak is still at the front, cherry, tar and potting soil. Dry earthy cherry flavours and a nice dry woody finish.

Not a bad wine, but didn't leave much of an impression on me...
