Nose: red fruits, dark fruits, red date Notes: Drank vertically with CSJ 04,06,08,13 and CdR 06,08,11. Opened for more than 5 hours before drinking. This 2008 Clos des Ruchottes is a little more fruit forward with a bit of a sweet palate. This is actually quite a pleasant wine to have right now but I must say deep inside me I couldn't find the level of complexity I was expecting. Generally speaking the 06 pair outperformed the 08 pair. Drink: 2028+ Rating: 90

Mostly Champagne & Burgs (VVF, Krug, DP, Rousseau, Fourrier,…): Tasted double blind. While I appreciated the depth of this wine I was not as big a fan as others in our group (see Nostrabacchus note below). I found it too rustic, even aggressive with a not yet perfectly round and integrated tannins and an acidity which was high and not very well integrated. Maybe the wine needs just 10 or 20 more years to get there and reach the level of elegance and softness I expect from such a wine. I’ve tried some more on day two and it showed even more layered but the Ruchottes sturdiness was still there.
TN: The nose is expressive, spicy, a touch funky, not as round as inviting, even a touch aggressive. On the palate this is more inviting, and a touch rounder, full of ripe dark red and red fruit, from fresh to candied, so much spices, herbs and a nice layer of minerality. The substance and precision are quite impressive from the attack and into the quite long finish. The tannins are of good quality but there is a lot of them and they’re not yet perfectly round and silky. The acidity is a touch too high and not very well integrated. Overall, this puts the balance slightly off.
Decanting: Not decanted. Based on my day two experience a good 2+ hours in the decanter would have certainly helped but still not to the point to overcome the imperfections.

Tasted blind as part of a Champagne and Burgundy tasting (plus pirates). Slightly cooked, blue berry type of fruit with earthy and mineral notes on the side. The nose was not overly expressive and felt rather rustic. The palate was in general fresh and fruity with lots of acidity but a bit of a wobbly balance. Appears more aged on the nose than on the palate. This was still very much enjoyable, but at this stage just couldn’t live up to the reputation. Would cellar for another few years.

Wow, an intoxicating perfume of dark and dark red berries, also some red berries, sous-bois/underwood, a touch of barnyard, sweet spices, some graphite and just overall beautiful minerality. It‘s medium-full bodied, with high racy acidity and medium+ tannin that is already pretty integrated. Long finish with very good complexity. According to others at the table who drink Rousseau much more often than I can, this was slightly advanced. I would still drink it any day of the year :-)

Malgré le millésime souvent parfois plus mince, une superbe bouteille de Rousseau, magnifique. 93-94
Gorgeous Ruchottes from Rousseau.
