Light color; nose cherry, palate sweet, good acidity; sweet and sour, really interesting and complex; lots going on here. Almost Burgundian, but quite clearly Italian. This was my wine, though tasted totally blind.

Wow, was this a surprise. Afraid this might be over the hill, it wasn't in any danger. Could've competed with a lot of Amarones, but wasn't too overripe. Just in a beautiful spot with great fruit and still some definition holding it all together.

Tuesday Night Double Blind Tasting, $30-$50 (Bin 75): Medium color and nose, some sweetness. Palate is sour green apple. Acid, newer. I thought it might even be 2013 it was still so new and fresh. Give this one some time.

Tuesday Night Double Blind Tasting, $30-$50 (Bin 75): Dark color. Big and rich on the palate, plenty of fruit. A little tannin, but also some New World character (a hint of oak?). In a good spot right now though, very enjoyable.

Tuesday Night Double Blind Tasting, $30-$50 (Bin 75): Darker, bit of color change. Not a lot on the nose. Palate is tannic, woody. Earthy, but not too much. Overall, not a lot of Bordeaux character, could've been a Super Tuscan. Good, but still needs time.

Tuesday Night Double Blind Tasting, $30-$50 (Bin 75): A bit of funk, but good fruit on the nose. Light color, but richer than previous wine (12 Beaune Teurons). Palate is fuller too. Not just pure fruit here, more depth. Very good, but not quite to the level of some past bottles (see Rezy13's notes).
Red
Tuesday Night Double Blind Tasting, $30-$50 (Bin 75): Light, bright red fruit, uplifting cherry nose. Palate has cherry too, and plenty of acid. I was squarely on 2012 Beaune.
Red
Tuesday Night Double Blind Tasting, $30-$50 (Bin 75): Medium color, not much change. Nose has some sweetness. On the palate, a bit of liqueur, firm but short finish, tannin. Similar to a modern style Brunello to me, and needs a little more time.

Tuesday Night Double Blind Tasting, $30-$50 (Bin 75): Darker, color change. Nose has a hint of celery, but sweet too. A touch of VA. Good acid and tannin still, so a bit out of balance with fruit faded a bit. Not sure it will ever mellow out before the fruit is gone, so I'd drink up.

Tuesday Night Double Blind Tasting, $30-$50 (Bin 75): Dark purple. Nose a bit muted. Rich, fresh fruit, but a bit short. New, but doesn't have oak overpowering it. This one stumped everyone. Definitely would want to hold these a few years, it's in a bit of a dumb phase right now.

Tuesday Night Double Blind Tasting, $30-$50 (Bin 75): Good nose, sweet cinnamon and rose. Light color, a little alcohol. Bright red fruit, a little linear. I thought it might be a newer cru Barbaresco due to the linear nature. Can't wait to have this wine once it gets some age.
White
Tuesday Night Double Blind Tasting, $30-$50 (Bin 75): Bright citrus, round, bit of butterscotch. In a perfect spot now, no need to wait on it. Delicious.

Tuesday Night Double Blind Tasting, $40 and under (Bin 75): Pop n Pour. Deep, dark color. Heavy nose, dark fruit, coffee. Has tannin, seems more Old World in style. Has some oak, but French. I thought this was a young SuperTuscan, can't believe it's this old. Has plenty of time to go.

Tuesday Night Double Blind Tasting, $40 and under (Bin 75): Nose is a bit smoky, musty. Has some age. A little lean, mineral on the palate. In a good spot overall, very much Northern Rhone in character. I guessed '06 Jasmin C-R, so pretty close. Group #2 WOTN.
Red
Tuesday Night Double Blind Tasting, $40 and under (Bin 75): Great nose, color says it's very new. Bright red fruit on the palate, very Burgundian. It's a bit dark for Burg and a little rich, almost a little New World in style, but not quite. May just be the newness.
Red
Tuesday Night Double Blind Tasting, $40 and under (Bin 75): Nose is a bit reductive, but sweet too. Light color. Liqueur on the palate, a touch of alcohol. Has tannin and acid, just brand new. Could have been Nebbiolo or Brunello. So pure, almost Burgundian, but just too new. Give this some time and it will be a true standout.
Red
Tuesday Night Double Blind Tasting, $40 and under (Bin 75): Nose is tobacco, spice. Some color change, almost chocolate center. Peppery, seems almost Syrah. Some mineral, tannin/acid are resolved, made me think it might be Northern Rhone instead of Bordeaux. Overall, really impressive for a 20+ year old Medoc, just what you want from great vintages. No reason to hold any longer, but not fading out either. My #2 wine of the night and group WOTN.

Tuesday Night Double Blind Tasting, $40 and under (Bin 75): Darker color, almost purple. Nose is bright, sour cherry. Palate is green, but juicy, jammy, ripe. Has some new oak, but really tough to nail down. Everyone was all over the place, especially varietally here, and no wonder - it's a Syrah/Sangiovese blend. Not really typical of anything.

Tuesday Night Double Blind Tasting, $40 and under (Bin 75): A little big and rustic. Hint of age on the nose. Has some drying tannin on the palate, some mahogany. Overall, not really my favorite style of Nebbiolo, too big and ripe.
Red
Tuesday Night Double Blind Tasting, $40 and under (Bin 75): Light color, sweet nose, definitely Sangiovese like character as opposed to rose/cinammon of Nebbiolo. Palate says the same, a bit of liqueur. Definitely a lighter, more feminine style and a lighter vintage.

Tuesday Night Double Blind Tasting, $40 and under (Bin 75): Light color, a bit of color change. Nose is a bit sweet with cinammon. Has some tannin, but good pure fruit. The tannin led me to Nebbiolo, but I thought it good enough to be a base level Barolo (though I also mentioned I could be this wine). My WOTN, group #3 WOTN.

1983 Château Palmer Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend (view label images)
Tuesday Night Double Blind Tasting, $60+ (Bin 75): Nose definitely had the tobacco and earth of aged Bordeaux. Lots of color change too. A little richness still, but definitely seemed Left Bank. I didn't quite go this old, but it's fully mature. First time I've had an '83 from Margaux, and it was pretty brilliant. Thanks JD!

Tuesday Night Double Blind Tasting, $60+ (Bin 75): Good nose, palate is cherry. Color shows some age. There's a little tannin still here, but not a lot, and a bit drying. Overall, not the best bottle of this I've had, and it seems to be fading a bit. No complaints at this age though.

Tuesday Night Double Blind Tasting, $60+ (Bin 75): Sweet nose, some VA, immediately thought Veneto. On the palate, confirmed it, and I was all over Quintarelli. So complex, though the VA was a little strong for some. I do think it was on a quicker aging curve than the last bottle I had a couple of months ago. Still, if you love wine from an old master, this is a great example, and should be in its prime window.

Tuesday Night Double Blind Tasting, $60+ (Bin 75): Bigger, brawny wine. Lots of tannin, definitely character of Bordeaux grapes, but seems a blend. No funk or earth either, so I thought it was a big SuperTuscan. Amazed at how old this was, seemed like it was still not at peak yet.

Tuesday Night Double Blind Tasting, $60+ (Bin 75): Great nose, sweet, bright. Some color change. Tastes so bright, but youthful. Power and tannin, has to be Barolo. Sexy, cedar, sandy, I guessed this was Sandrone. Had this a couple of months ago (see Rezy13's note) and it took some time to open up. This one had good decant time and was really starting to sing. I think the '09s will be that way - drink early and enjoy.

2011 Domaine Perrot-Minot Chapelle-Chambertin Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru Pinot Noir (view label images)
Tuesday Night Double Blind Tasting, $60+ (Bin 75): Fresh nose, very nice. Palate is a bit short though. A little candied cherry, but overall it's shut down. We had this a few months back and it was much more expressive. I'd stash away for a while, but it's got all the pieces in place.

Tuesday Night Double Blind Tasting, $60+ (Bin 75): Tobacco hits right off. On the palate, very earthy, just what I want in aged Bordeaux. A tad on the leaner side compared to others on the night, but not in a bad way at all. This was above and beyond our normal tasting range, but no complaints. In a great spot right now.

Tuesday Night Double Blind Tasting, $60+ (Bin 75): Sweet nose, fresh, spicy, a bit of alcohol. Still very youthful, would've liked to taste it with more time. Not fooling anyone that it's CdP, but it's a bit in your face still. Came back at the end of the night and it had mellowed some, but I'd really like to try it again in 3-4 years.

1996 Château Pontet-Canet Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend (view label images)
Tuesday Night Double Blind Tasting, $60+ (Bin 75): Tobacco nose, color pretty solid. Tannin is softer, round, made me think fat vintage. Not a lot of Cab notes, so I thought it could be Right Bank. Still youthful fruit, but as noted tannins are very soft so it's quite drinkable.

Tuesday Night Double Blind Tasting, $60+ (Bin 75): Lighter color, some change. Nose more subtle. On palate, sweet cherry liqueur, refined tannin. This was a beautiful wine, I thought it was '07 Poggio di Sotto. Really well done.

Tuesday Night Double Blind Tasting, $60+ (Bin 75): Good color and nose. Palate is sweet, good fat, tobacco. Has some tannin still, doesn't seem quite fully mature yet. I guessed 2000 Left Bank. Third time we've had this wine in the last couple of months, and every one was different.

2000 Château Lynch-Bages Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend (view label images)
Tuesday Night Double Blind Tasting, $60+ (Bin 75): Tobacco and earth nose. Dark color. On the palate a little rich, but not too much, age is just about right. I went '95 Pauillac, but understand how the richness was probably more a character of 2000. In a pretty good spot.

2002 Château Cos d'Estournel St. Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend (view label images)
Tuesday Night Double Blind Tasting, $60+ (Bin 75): Dark color, not giving away a lot. On the palate, structured and pretty big. I actually thought it might be Italian Merlot. Was pretty surprised when we saw what it was - would never have guessed it to be '02, was much more like a young classic vintage. Came from a very well-stored cellar, so all may not be this young, but this one still needed a few more years.

Tuesday Night Double Blind Tasting, $60+ (Bin 75): Another great classic Burgundy nose. On the palate a little on the richer side, led me north to Gevrey. It's still pretty youthful, but man is it delicious. Big, round mouthfeel with a long finish - I definitely thought Grand Cru quality. Came back to it at the end of the night and it just kept getting better. This producer really seems to be turning it on the last couple of vintages. My WOTN and group WOTN.

Tuesday Night Double Blind Tasting, $60+ (Bin 75): Very refined, elegant nose. High toned, hard red fruit, still a bit youthful but delicious. Close to the 2010 (a favorite), but maybe a step behind right now. Still, can't complain, I love the wine from this site.

1990 Carruades de Lafite Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend (view label images)
Tuesday Night Double Blind Tasting, $60+ (Bin 75): Lots of tobacco on the nose and some funk too. Good deal of color change, so has plenty of age. Has to be older Left Bank Bordeaux. With all the funk I went '89 Bahans, but no complaints. Drink now though, not sure how much longer it's got left, and it's not going to get any better.

Tuesday Night Double Blind Tasting, $60+ (Bin 75): Pepper and tobacco on the nose. Deep red color. Tobacco made me think Bordeaux. Medium age, guessed 2000, but thought it was Bordeaux. When Cali is done this well, I really appreciate it.

Tuesday Night Double Blind Tasting, $60+ (Bin 75): Nice fresh nose, lighter color. Nose is very elegant Burgundian, but it's a little richer style on the palate. As such, I guessed '10 Pommard. A good start, but was really outclassed by the later Burgundies in the evening.
Red
Tuesday Night Double Blind Tasting, $50+ (Bin 75): Nice light color and expressive nose, very pretty. Mouthfeel is bigger than expected though, almost more like Sangiovese than Nebbiolo. Still very youthful, but tannins aren't overwhelming. Very polished for a traditional style, I like it, but would want to wait to drink it again in a few years.

Tuesday Night Double Blind Tasting, $50+ (Bin 75): Dark color, vanilla on the nose, definite signs of American oak. Maybe a touch of VA as well, made me think this could be a modern Veneto (Dal Forno?). It really wasn't giving much away, and oak hasn't integrated. Hope it will, seems there's plenty of stuffing still there.

Tuesday Night Double Blind Tasting, $50+ (Bin 75): Color is similar to the previous wine (2010 Barbi), but the nose is sweet, tar and rose, almost more Nebbiolo like. On the palate, tannins are moderate though, more like Brunello. It's just such a pretty, elegant wine. Have had this several times since release, and it's a true star of the vintage, just pure Sangiovese. My WOTN and group WOTN.

Tuesday Night Double Blind Tasting, $50+ (Bin 75): Lighter color, almost Burgundian. Something a bit odd on the first whiff, maybe petrol (though it blew off). Lighter on the palate too like a Burg. However, there's some pretty strong tannin too, almost like Nebbiolo. I was sort of all over the place, and overall I never know what to think about this wine. Good, but just something a bit off.

Tuesday Night Double Blind Tasting, $50+ (Bin 75): Classic Tuscan nose and color of Sangiovese, On the palate, a little riper, thought it might contain something else in the blend. Still very good overall, I thought it might be '07 Ciacci Brunello.

Tuesday Night Double Blind Tasting, $50+ (Bin 75): Has some funk on the nose. Darker color, but not too dark. Definitely has some alcohol. On the palate, baby aspirin is there, telltale CdP notes. A little riper in style than I like, but still overall pretty good. In its window, don't see it getting better.
