This performed really well - perfect condition bottle stored in France from release. Creamy and not green at all, extremely supple on the palate and going down so nicely with a richness that balanced well against a strong acidic backbone. Almost reminded me of a beautiful Sauternes on the palate, even though this was completely dry. Wonderful wine and shows that patience will be rewarded with Dagueneau's wines.

A Diverse Set of Wines in Honor of a Visiting Friend (Los Olivos, CA): An interesting mélange of grapefruit and pit fruit notes, reasonably fresh at first then oxidative aspects came to the fore, something which bothered others more than me. If not at peak, I thought this had a lot to offer as a benchmark bottling,

Nice nose with classic Sauvignon Blanc notes, very floral and deep, with hints of gooseberry and minerals. Great acidity and generally very fresh on the palate with complex notes of citrus, lemon, minerals, a hint of smoke, and lime zest. Long finish. A beautiful, complex wine that's rich, yet well balanced.

Celebration for Oct babies: Easy call as Loire SB but was 10 years off for its age! Barely any evolution, mix of fresh exotic, white fruits with a lovely intensity. Less atypical than I expected of Dagueneau. Grapefruit note was a little distracting but otherwise thought this was very good.

Salut Montreal (Montreal Area): This is just an astoundingly brilliant bottle from the king. The nose from the first pour is massively expressive and complex showing a broad spectrum of aromas: Kaffir lime leaf, chalk, honey, white flowers, toasted hazelnut, white mushroom, brown butter, marzipan, cardamom, white truffle, candied lime peel, dried grapefruit peel, and a touch of wet wool. Simply a nose you can’t stop smelling and smiling about. The palate is beautifully precise with plenty of citrus tinged acid keeping it super fresh despite moderate richness and the wild complexity. Just a touch of herbal bitterness hits the mid-palate, but the finish is complex and long replaying much of the nose. Absolutely brilliant.

Sauvignon Blanc From Around the World, Tasted Blind (Casa de la Mata - Chicago IL): Double blind in SB tasting. Rich and dense with faint signs of evolution while still bright. Very layered and well textured, while still retaining plenty of fruit. Better today vs when last tasted in 2013, which is no surprise given that Didier's wines rewarded patience.

Pretty tight even after hours in Decanter. Finally, the wine gave and clearly wet wool and slate lay over citrus, apricot, hints of pineapple and light butter tones on the aromas. The mouthfeel was more open, but even here the wine was in battle with its inner strengths. Beautifully elegant on one side with lovely juicy sun-warmed citrus fruits, hints of pineapple and delicious juicy grapefruit. On the other hand, the wine was more demanding and became large and a bit clumsy with a touch of diesel and fantastically deep and coarser salt minerals. Fortunately, the battle was led by a radiant acidity that refreshed and gave life and energy to the wine that still has a good decade in it. Large complex and demanding wine.

A bit muted but some tertiary aromas from the sur lie and wood. Abundant fruit bit I lack the freshness/citric acid found in Baron L, which I prefer as a topend SB.

"Steinete" lukt av våt skifer dominerer, med litt gule epler. Men ellers lite duft.

Stone and grapefruit on the nose. More stone, passion fruit, lemon and a slight grassy note. Big mouthfeel. Long finish. Drinking beautifully. May improve a little but still lots of time to go. Last time I drank this I said it was the best SB I've had. It's still up there, but since then I've drunk more Loire based SB. There are several that reach this level at a much better QPR. But still a delicious drink.

Sauvignon super. Persistenza lunghissima, grande armonia.

This is unlike any Pouilly Fume I’ve ever had before. It’s good... but pretty crazy.
A darker colour than you might expect from pouilly fume, with an interesting combination of herbaceous notes with some tropical fruit overtones. Great minerality underneath it all. And a very complex flavour profile which continues to develop after you’ve swallowed the wine.
Really enjoyed this.

A well stored bottle served at 53. Nose offers kumquat, tangerine oil, key lime, and clean diaper. As it warms, the pineapple and guava shows, still enough acidity to work with rabbit or chicken, but I wouldnt hold this much longer. It's now soft and tropically voluptuous, but for my palate the fading acidity suggests its time to drink up.

La Nuit des Garcons (Grill Restaurant, Hong Kong Country Club, Hong Kong): Touch of yellow in an otherwise white gold colour. Nose of classic distinctive Silex flint but still tons of crisp, mouth-watering white fruit. Palate is more of the same very crisp white peach notes....and hints of sweetness. Quite light in mouthfeel but this is so resonant and reverberant on the finish....like the light chiming of a bell in a dark temple. It unfolds like the petals of a white scented flower as it warms up to cool room temperature. Fabulous!

3 year since we tried this last (Papies 93) and remains in a very good place. We shoudl have decanted it for a good 30 mins if we had the patience. Quite exotic fruited, very much the 2009 vintage taking over the otherwise more mineral and citrus profile of this wine. We liked the fact that it has held on to its vibrant side and still drinks very well. Solid wine 92-93 and still feels on the young side

This wine It is quite well made, but lacks a bit of soul. It is balanced, with a nice crispiness, medium-bodied, floral aromas, citrus. The finish is not as long as I would have thought. It is a nice wine but in my opinion what I tasted on this particular occasion is totally overrated. A good and classical Sauvignon blanc from Loire, nothing more.

Despite some age this wine is most likely the best Sauvignon Blanc I have ever tasted! The 2009 Dagueneau Silex offers up rich lime and lemon zest, Gooseberry, lightly oven roasted lemons and last but not least quite intense minerals. The palate reveals a more balanced and integrated acidity compared to the earlier tastings of this effort. The overall balance and integration is wonderful. With a length on the finish lasting some 40+ seconds this wine has certainly provided a lovely experience tonight. But all good things have to come to an end. It is time to drink up any bottles remaining. The wine is certainly lovely, but has reached the peak of its evolutionary path. (score is 94+)

Rousseau Chambertin Clos de Beze event; 9/11/2015-9/12/2015 (Capella Hotel Georgetown): The nose initially is dominated by cat pee. With air, only a hint of grass, kiwi, star fruit, grapefruit, flowers, honey and mineral. Excellent concentration, ripe yet succulent yellow citrus and kiwi driven palate impression, good mineral presence, bright acidity and lovely long finish. This is quite succulent and precise. Really enjoyable.

Good Friday Drinks (Domaine Wine Storage - Chicago, IL): Served blind. I exotic fruit on the nose; coconut, peach, cherry had me thinking White Bordeaux. Palate didn't have the weight or concentration to be White Bordeaux, so I was a bit stumped. When the bottle was revealed it all made sense, but in the moment I couldn't piece it all together. Great acidity and balance to the palate that only improved with air.

A Good Friday (Chicago, IL): Botrytis and gooseberries. What a funky combination. Super rich nose coupled with a racy and green palate makes for a really interesting wine. Racy with good acidity, and a nice mineral tone to it, despite its heavier fruit character. Quite rich, this coats the palate with a thick luscious texture. A well-crafted bottle of sauvignon blanc, if it isn't the most traditional.

light gold w/greenish highlights; pure & precise sauvignon blanc nose - hay, green herbs, lemon zest, wet stone; med++ body; rich & full-on tangy citrus, grapefruit marmalade, tarragon, juicy; definitive mineral spine, long & complete. spot on pairing w/food - one of the best ever. would drink a lot more s.b., if more were like this.

Chicago: wine, food, friends...cigars!; 9/17/2014-9/20/2014 (Blackbird, Les Nomades, Naha, with lunch at Shaw's Crab House): Served next to the 2007 Silex, this was my favorite of the two. Already very approachable, nicely balanced with good vibrancy of fruit, and precision. However, I will say that I think the two wines are in vastly different places at this point in time, the '07 will be longer-lived (simply put, it has more fruit, and enough acids). So, drink these now while your '07s continue to come together. I have to say it was great fun seeing the dad's last effort side-by-side with the son's first (completely) solo effort - indeed, each left his mark. recommended
Slow-O 1 hour, served non-blind.

Overrated, young, but good. I have never drunk a 100% with that elegance, the wood seems to go with a good way with the wine. It's a pitty that the aftertaste is a bit too short. Can be better in 10 years' time.

Decanted for 30 minutes or so and well needed. We have been following this wine for a good 2 yrs now and its now evolving nicely, shedding the early signs of oak and becoming a very mineral & citrus profile. Very well made. firm structure, the acid is polished and there is a fair amount of fruit on the mid palate. Beautiful wine and although we have always been believers that these wines are better young it seems that time will only make this wine better. 93-94

Totally mind boggling and by far the most brilliant Sauvignon Blanc I have ever tasted! This 2009 Dagueneau Silex offers up abundant Gooseberry, citrus zest, oven roasted lemons and an array of intense minerals. After some air a spiciness appears with a rather aromatic sense to it. The palate reveals a stunning, but still balanced and integrated acidity. The overall balance and integration is stunning and with a length on the finish lasting some 45+ seconds this is an impeccable effort. A wonderfully impressive wine and I have to say a Sauvignon Blanc does not get better than this. (score is 95+)

Green grass/asparagus, lemon and grapefruit, and floral notes on the nose; on the palate, honeysuckle, lemon, and white pepper, with notes of apricot and pineapple on the medium to long finish, and good acidity and balance. This is definitely the most complex and interesting Sauvignon Blanc I have had -- but I can't convince myself that it's worth paying the 2-3x price premium over the lesser versions. Excellent wine, but below-average value for money; this would be far more attractive at half the price.

Opened by BillHike. Good to see that the quality of the wines from this estate are still very high after the death of Didier in 2008. Aromas of poached pears and lemongrass on the nose. Always so unique and fascinating. I still don't know the correct answer "How young to drink your Silex?" :) This was my last '09 bottle. I had every intention of cellaring this for a decade! But alas, opened for a special occasion and very ardent fans. Stood for 24 hours, then PnP at restaurant. Nose of quince, grapefruit, white pepper and grass. So lush and rich and full on the palate, with just a pleasant tiny dose of endearing kerosene. Long finish. We served us a bit on the warmer side, "just because." Decant? Yes, no - whatever feels right. This is a wine with a ton of fault tolerance built into it - very forgiving, almost never a wrong answer!

Intense lemon oil on the nose with that flinty smoky note. Just a hint of the oak treatment but not at all disturbing and I usually hate that sort of thing on whites. I have no hesitation giving this a 95 - I couldn't put my glass down. I had another bottle in the fridge and I could stop myself from opening that the next day. I'll have to hide these away if they're to age (and they deserve a couple more years).

Tasted blind. It's always a treat to drink Dag' wines as the sauvignon blanc tastes so different than all other SB you can find that you can hardly recognize it. Great nose with toasted sesame, pierre a fusil and a touch of jalapeno. Round and fleshy but not heavy, mandarin on the palate with a spicy minerality. Even if this is really good right now, I would give it a few years to gain more elegance and precision. Still, i'd be happy to drink it everyday!

Decanted 45 min. Pale hue with young silver reflects. Nice nose on white flowers (like white fruit tree in spring) with a hint of cat urine (french tasters associate this detail to sauvignon), perhaps a bit of hay. The oak is not obvious. Mouth immediatly energertic supported by a nice acidity, then wide mineral mid palate on flowers and beeswax, ending long with menthol notes. A bit young, some flowers notes are not yet clustered to minth nor to the shy oak. A classical french style, close to some big the Pessac-Leognan. Excellent but not huge.

The 2009 Didider Dagueneau Pouilly-Fume Silex is medium lemon in colour with a nose of tropical ripe mangoes, honey, fresh spring (or that after-a-rain smell) and an underlying slight kerosene. The wine begins with a slow start on the entry palate before exploding tropical fruits, nuttiness, cream and honey. The end palate definitely stars as the climax of the wine with flavours of flint, wet rocks and complex yet gentle sweetness. A lingering, tantalising finish.
Very round with good structure and depth. Acidity lies low beneath the flavours and fulfilling its role to lift the flavours without being too evident at all. With the wine ending on such a cliff hanger, another sip is almost irresistible.

Sweeter, riper and more expressive nose than the 2010 Pure Sang, with tropical fruits like mango alongside honey, beeswax and sweet minerality. HDH auction tasting at Tru; 5/17/2013-5/18/2013 (Chicago, IL): Very pale in colour. Very typical sauvignon blanc nose: gooseberries and kiwifruit with a bit of Meursault richness thrown in for good measure. The palate is also very reminiscent of a Meursault in texture; sweet, rich and buttery, but somehow held in check by the green acidity of sauvignon blanc. Awesome stuff.

An absolutely stunning effort and by far the most brilliant Sauvignon Blanc I have ever tasted, the 2009 Dagueneau Silex offers a vivid array of condensed super crisp Gooseberry, lime zest, sun dried lemons and profound wet minerals. There is also a subtle but vibrant aromatic tone emerging after several hours in the glass. The palate follows through in a wonderful way showing magnificent acidity as well as a perfect balance and integration. The length on the finish lasts some 35-40 seconds. Overall impression is that of a truly impressive wine. A Sauvignon Blanc does not get better than this. Period. (score is 95+)

This is excellent. Bottle was recorked after showing some volatility, which blew off later in the day. The palate shows amazing delineation with stone fruit and creamy mineral with deceptively viscous texture to complement the bright acid. When the mineral begins to drive the finish and fade a bit, a wave of creme de violette comes out of nowhere and knocks your socks off.
Day 2: The thick texture shows a lot more as the wine integrates. Better and more exciting on day one, but be sure to decant.

This performed really well - perfect condition bottle stored in France from release. Creamy and not green at all, extremely supple on the palate and going down so nicely with a richness that balanced well against a strong acidic backbone.

Fabulous!

I have to say it was great fun seeing the dad's last effort side-by-side with the son's first (completely) solo effort - indeed, each left his mark. recommended

Excellent wine, but below-average value for money; this would be far more attractive at half the price.

Clean medium lemon color.
Clean, profound intensity, complex nose, multy layered ripe stone fruits (apricots), ripe exotic fruits (mango, pineapple), evident but not overpowering oak notes (sweet toast), almond, walnut liquer, young
Dry med alcohol (13%), med+ body, med+ acidity, med intensity, oak notes at first (almond, toast) , vanilla, mineral, balance clearly towards the acidity, lime juice, med+ finish, young
Outstanding quality, super premium price (100 euros). Young but could drink now and could age. A desert island wine for me, even though the rest went for the Pur Sang.

Once again a very good and consistent showing. This is drinking so nicely now.
Balance and elegance from nose to mid palate to finish. This is for the lovers of the lightly oak, mineral whites , very primary at this stage and with lots of intensity. Previous TN hold and again we do belieev that these are better enjoyed younger. 93 again.

Mad for Magnums (Ai Fiori - New York NY): From magnum. Modest fruit aromatic start with spice hints. Mineral driven palate, enjoyable and energetic but not at the level of the finest Dagueneau from prior vintages.

Lemon-green youthful colour with a ripe nectarine-like nose with hints of oak and lemon blossom also present. Vegetal and mineral on palate with great depth, concentration and full body. Long marzipan-like finish. Great effort combining ripeness with class.

Consistent with our previous note. Need a bit of tiem to open up and need to stay in a good temperature.
Elegant, citrus notes and light green apple. Lush and dense on the palate with ever the lightest touch of glycerin feel on the finish. Good minerality. Intense, fresh, long. We definitely think it is better to drink young. 93

Light in color. Young, intense nose of wet stone, smoke, flint and citrus. Clean and fresh. Open style (the vintage?) compared to some top rated Sancerres from 2008 that were tasted the same evening.

Decanted for like 20 minutes.
Elegant, citrus notes and light green apple. Lush and dense on the palate with ever the lightest touch of glycerin feel on the finish. Good minerality. Intense, fresh, long and with a serious presence this is worth the hype. The more we come across Dagueneau wines (Silex and Pur Sang to be exact) the more we feel their best years are the early ones when the freshness and intensity rule. Very nice 93 maybe more. We would decant for 30 mins and drink now

Beautiful nose with bright citrus notes. Palate has great fruit and intensity finishing with bright acidity. I think this will actually get a little better in a year or 2.

Floral and elegant, with notes of gooseberry and green apple. IMO needs a decade to show its strength.

Very light in color. Young, intense nose of wet stone / silex and citrus. Clean and fresh. A delight to drink now, but seems to have an even greater future.
